Its what they want you to think because its true.
It really bugs me when people are dismissive about theorising around games; 'It's just a game, why does it matter?' Like, are these people saying the same things about people who study literature? Or films? Or traditional art? Is everything a big waste of time that's rooted in fiction to them, or is it just games, because they're seen as a lesser platform.
Time isn't wasted when you're doing something you're passionate about.
Reanne It's their opinion so leave it at that. Not everyone thinks that deeply about games and that's all right.
Gracie J it's completely fine to have a different opinion, not everyone likes the same things. But not liking something someone else does, doesn't give you the right to belittle them about it.
Plus these videos provide entertainment and make a lot of people happy.

That's very true. But if people find joy in that then I'm not going to rain on their parade and tell them it's not legitimate. Think about the cumulative time that's been spent studying Shakespeare's work. Does everybody think that's a useful pursuit? No. Is every single thing theorised about it correct? No. But plenty of people find it fascinating none the less.

That bit at the beginning where he's like "Fine Brothers have people reacting to me, that's how I know I've made it" made me think of when Kurt Cobain and Nirvana knew they had made it when Weird Al asked if he could do a parody of Smells Like Teen Spirit.
Well, tbh, Weird Al is a whole another level altogether compared to the greedy jew bros. Weird Al is a really nice guy with few to none controversies, whereas the jew bros already made one BIG controversy that didn't HELP them in any way. The reason why they are still successful is because of sheep and people who are bored to tears of their monotonous life, whose number is up to the millions.
All in all, I don't think GameTheory have made it, I think they have earned it from their loyal fans, and that is enough.

I'm so SO glad everyone was kind and respectful, both of them were obviously nervous and it was great that it went that well to such deserving recipients of praise. I'm fairly new to the channel (which is why the comment is from a year after the video) but already have an understanding of the incredible amount of work and effort that goes into these videos, and it really pays off. It is true. If they didn't waste it on research and making videos they could actually do REAL things rather than sit behind a screen absorbing money. They could actually do something productive. Also, RUclips is for people who can't get a REAL job.
Da Neon Skull By that logic, being an actor or a philosopher or a writer isn't a real job. This is their livelihood. They work very hard to research their topics, write out very long scripts (and then perform and edit out kinks!), then edit a video around said scripts, deal with the possibility of bad assets or corrupted video files which could crash their system.
The entire process would take a normal person a month or more. For reference, a well documented and cited paper with reasonable commentary is about nine pages, or a six minute speech. Matpat churns out fifteen and twenty minute videos with high commentary and dissection, with vocal edits. At this rate, Matpat is producing high quality content without fail weekly. He is very hardworking and doesn't deserve to be relagated to the stupid platitude of "RUclipsrs are just people who can't get real jobs!"

Lokisaurus You can't say it's their livelihood of a writer for example puts YEARS of effort into a book which they must prove to be worthy of being published. Also, the fact is that he has experience. Without fail you say, just look at the title - he can't differentiate between a regular adult and renowned RUclipsrs. What's a 15 - 20 minute script which takes a week compared to a writer's chapter in months. How about you use logic and think before you reply? Also, an actor isn't just entertainment but rather an actual job. It's not a livelihood as you claim since it isn't just entertainment. They're not just making an account and making videos - they actually have to study how to make their work perfect an spend several years of practicing. They don't just go their last resort - it's a proper job.
Yeah, a 15-20 minute script isn't bad, but he's making hundreds of these 15-20 minute scripts. And while I understand your point that to be a "livelihood" it must be something you studied, this isn't something that's been around long enough to "study".Although with his degrees in psychology and theater, this is really the closest he could get.

The theories themselves are very fun, but I also really enjoy the subtle learning tools in most episodes (i.e. internal brain mechanics in "how to kill Deadpool"). If nothing else the theories also help condition us to think around corners and outside of the box.

I usually liked Rachel on React but then this came out an I was like damn she's really judgmental and frustrated over nothing. it mainly has to do with the fact that she's usually fine over theories but then was shutting this down simply because it was video games, which I find hypocritical. Her constant "it's just a video game" could easily be substituted with "it's just a movie" or "it's just a TV show." IDK it just bothered me that she was being so condescending about it and talking about "having so much time" when theories are meant for fun anyways. Not to mention that this is MatPat's passion that he's built a successful career on. It takes time and dedication and a lot of thought that not just anyone can do even if they have the time. on the contrary, people with that amount of time on their hands don't put any work or effort into anything. Still think she's cool but yeah... was not feeling her in this one.
She does actually enjoy video games, though. She plays games on the React channel and is totally into them. My point is that what someone else does with their own time shouldn't bother her. The same thing goes for what they enjoy.and what they want to talk about. I'm not a die-hard sports fanatic, but even if I don't always find it to be appealing to watch, I'm not going to criticize someone else for doing it if it's what they enjoy. Her opinion on the material wouldn't have bothered me regardless, but what did was the fact that she was so close-minded about it and repeating herself over and over again. Even if she didn't think this was their job, which I'm sure at this point it's safe to assume that a lot of these RUclipsrs are making a career out of what they do, she still shouldn't have been so cynical. If anything she should've been more considerate that someone put in all the time and effort and research into something that even if she doesn't enjoy, is something that she can respect.

Being a youtuber means...
Doing whatever you want and then getting payed. I can see why some people are pissed, or think it's a waste of time.
However, I will state that it is a form of entertainment and so it's fine in my book.
Kelvin Griffiths He's found a way to combine his intellect with his more creative nature and get paid for it instead of slaving away at a cubical, waiting for his boss to give him orders. I think that deserves a little respect.
And if you watched Game/Film Theory, which I suspect you don't, you'd know he does more than daydream about video games. Dude got a perfect score on the SAT, majored in neuroscience and theater, is the president of his own company, and is also paid for analysis and engineering he performs for large companies (and that's just a tiny bit of what's on Wikipedia). You couldn't pass this off as a job because you couldn't do even a fraction of that.
