La Barone many rail beds turned into walking trails are still owned by rail companies and can have new track layed whenever they want as they still have the right of ways.
Steam is alive and well here in the US, the largest steam locomotive in the world is almost out of the shop, and the Union Pacific 844 is always running.

Love it. I use to restore model T’s and old stationary farm engines with my son when he was 6 years old until he went off to college. We always meant to restore a steam engine but never had the opportunity. He is 39 now, and an electrical engineer with a PhD. Had chosen to work with high school kids and taught robotics and electronics before becoming a superintendent. I always believed his early start with mechanical fun gave him the foundation. Love your dedication and talent.
It would be really cool if you gave it some fun and classic steam locomotive features, such as lamps and a headlight! This such a charming machine, I love it! The whistle is beautiful too.
As a Mechanical Engineer, this is meat and potatos! I love it! Would love to ride on it. Also, you are not tied to gas or oil. It will probably work with charcoal too.
Have operated stationary and mobile steam engines over 12 years and have to say this is a great piece of engineering and machining. Great job, Keep up the steam work.
Mr Rossco,You have done a magnificent job with this project! That is one of the coolest things I have seen that is steam powered.Your asking price seems VERY low considering the work you have put into it.There are miles of unused track around here I can imagine myself riding along.I appreciate your imagination and talent.Thank you for this posting!
Now, this...is the real "Steam-punk". Accept no substitutes. An original thing of beauty. Enjoyed this a lot. Yeah, the whistle is the coolest part, indeed!
What a fine machine you have made there! I really like all the details; the explanation of the features was interesting. Thank you for the video. No doubt whoever bought this from you is enjoying it.
For me, it was putting the engine together from the ground up ...I was watching how the engine was with all the moving parts ..that was fascinating for me
I steamed 600 p.s.i. 850℉ superheated "M"- type boilers in the Navy producing 60,00 shaft horsepower, I'd trade all that just for an hour with this sweetheart of a plant- well done! ☺
2:09 This is a great piece of work. I love the I love the whole steam locomotive. This is I am very proud of this. It's a lot of engineering and work for this. And I am so proud to see that these are now for. Really useful think these steamworks motives should come back to life and keep running
In 2020 I am late to this party, but think your steam speeder is way cooool! I wanted to get a speeder in South Dakota couple of decades ago, wish I still could. A steam version is very nostalgic and fun! Hope you are still having fun with it. Loooove the whistle!
From a retired pipefitter in England, much respect. That looks like screwed barrel pipework, over there NPT threads. We used BSP, it was always a problem trying to find conversion fittings if we had to hook up to American equipment. And why did he build this? Simple, because he could. Superb stuff.
Wow.... What a great video with clear chugging sound from the cute little engine. Sounds just like my first Model A Ford engine idling with a straight pipe and no muffler.
What a delightful practical railcar! Steam locomotives are by far the most interesting trains to watch, mostly because they're so mechanical. It's neat to see the machinery at work as you chug along. :)
Oh now that looks like a fun way to spend the afternoon. Years ago as a much younger fella we used to do that and called it tracking, but we did it with automobiles.
I hate walking trails. Boring with nowhere to go, just straight ahead. They should leave the tracks as they are and make a walking trail beside the tracks for people like you, with some ingenuity to do things that you enjoy without causing trouble. I mean, with this thing you could travel for miles. On foot, you'll be lucky if you can cover 5 miles as a sightseers. Tgat the tracks remain there for another 100 years is not going to harm anyone, does it? I'd rather see rail tracks than gravel. Besides tracks can come really handy to transport screening and gravel along the tracks to make and maintain walking tracks.
Never let on that you're enjoying yourself in the presence of gov't employees... They will typically do everything they can to ban or heavily tax whatever it is you're doing at that moment.

Simpllicity and practical...im thinking of running steam to generate electricity for my house. Gasoline is getting WAY too expensive lately, plus i live in the Anthracite Coal Region(free coal!!!)
I envy the person who owns this. It's waaaay cool. I suppose a measure of efficiency is miles per log. I kid up to a point but firewood does have a specific btu content by weight. 7,000 btu per pound is what I remember, but I could be wrong. That pretty much levels the playing field when burning various species of wood.
Beautiful job, and runs nice too. Amazing you found a place to operate it. The ball of the rail looks pretty rusted. Doesn’t look like it’s a regularly active line.
Absolutely amazing. The amount of power it has is amazing also. Beautiful project and you certainly can be very proud of it. Thanks for sharing the video.

Speaking of steam do you know if the Flying Scotsman is still running?

It's still really cool. Would love to try it out.
Goddamn perfection.
Lol
Probably the smallest standard gauge steam locomotive ever constructed. I love it!
You hit the nail on the head I’m a retired railroader and a navy veteran who was a boiler technician in my navy days
Thank you for your service!
As a Mechanical Engineer, this is meat and potatos! I love it! Would love to ride on it. Also, you are not tied to gas or oil. It will probably work with charcoal too.
was waiting whole time 4 him to show us how fast it can travel,,
Have operated stationary and mobile steam engines over 12 years and have to say this is a great piece of engineering and machining. Great job, Keep up the steam work.
A gentleman whom I knew in the 1970's built one of those with a Stanley Steamer engine and vertical boiler. He lived in Santa Cruz County, California.
The entire time I was watching him do his walk-around, I imagined a high-speed liner coming through at 100 mph and smashing his creation......
Lmaooooo
The way you think is related to depression!
lol me too
Nah did not think that
Same
Awesome. Reminds me of the engine on the African Queen! Would love to see this on a boat!
Great movie still to this day

I was thinking the same thing, at least he doesn't have to kick it so it doesn't explode!
You forgot the crossing signal. Two longs a short and a long on the whistle...😁 Very nice !
Rossco, you are true steam craftsman, and I suspect an ole railroader at heart. Beautiful!
Imagine travelling with this peacefully and suddenly a train appearing coming across u.
@@alanmichael999 lol
@Luis Montoya that would require time to change the points, and access to them
Reverse!!!!
Cool doesn't even begin to describe this. It is beautiful. A work of art.
I would wear an old-timey Victorian get up, and act like I invented the concept of rail travel, if I had this.

Umm. This would just be called steam powered . Not steam punk. Steam punk is a specific thing.
@@jamesbizs Which is what any Steam based object is apart of.....look into it more.
@@hyperionwhitestar1453 it doesnt fly, is not wastefully leaking steam and doesnt even have obnoxious cogs everywhere
It's clearly not steampunk!
For it to be steampunk it has to be stupidly unpractical and devoid of any intelligent engineering.
What a fine machine you have made there! I really like all the details; the explanation of the features was interesting. Thank you for the video. No doubt whoever bought this from you is enjoying it.
YOU GOT TO BE SOME KIND OF MECHANIC TO BUILD THAT; WELL DONE!
What's cool about this is that tripple expansion steam engine.
All of this is the coolest thing I've seen all day.
i am impressed that you built this from the ground up !!
I had to start with the railroad wheels. That took about a year.
For me, it was putting the engine together from the ground up ...I was watching how the engine was with all the moving parts ..that was fascinating for me
that is a BEAUTIFUL whistle. Wow.
The intense subspace warp image stabilization is so trippy

I steamed 1200 psi Babcock & Wilcox boilers in the Nave producing 280,000 shaft horsepower and I would trade that also. Thank you for your service.
Anybody notice how much this guy’s voice sounds a lot like actor John Goodman’s
What a fun and fantastic piece of homemade steam engineering!!!
That's just too cool!

That's a brave whistle for a small engine...
The whistle is on a very brave boiler!
Beautiful little steam locomotive!
The timing on the valve motion makes a wonderful sound.
Thank you for sharing your splendid craftsmanship. The kid inside me is doing cartwheels.
For a every day person to make a steam engine I was impressed
Beautiful work! I have a single cylinder traction engine my late uncle built.
Beautiful thing and a fantastic whistle!I'd love to hear it and expect a Hudson only to find your VB chugger rounding the bend!!
Hell yes. Rail Karting with steam like the old days. I love it brother. She looks heavy.
Some virbration but absolutely awesome. This is how men created a steam locomotive. Keep doing it!
Took humanity centuries to invent this, and this guy can do it all by himself as a simple "project."
Oh now that looks like a fun way to spend the afternoon. Years ago as a much younger fella we used to do that and called it tracking, but we did it with automobiles.
Very simple explanation of steam engine.
Good creativity. 👌😍
