And now another 20 years have passed since the 2002 re-release. I will never forget watching this in the theater in 1982 with my mom. How time flies. Miss you, Mama.
I want to watch this again but I don’t want to get upset and miss my mom too
@@landeny65 I feel for you. I can only speak for myself, but when I watch movies my mom and I watched together, I feel closer to her. I think (and hope) the same could hold true for you. Take care of yourself.

I never cried, but I did enjoy this movie for what it was.

This is probably one of the most unique movies ever made. It has a whole different atmosphere and tone to it that you can't find in many other movies, and John Williams really contributed to it. It's really a masterpiece.
nolanception I agree. Everything about it: the score by John Williams, the eerie tone in the beginning, and the story is what makes this a unique masterpiece by the legendary Spielberg!!!!!!
+nolanception what about shawshank redemption ? forrest gump ? pulp fiction (not a fan of that movie anyways) ? the green mile ?
well said. This movie is nothing less than a masterpiece. Easily, one of my favorite of all time!!!
Pedro Granja Amen to that. ET is my most favorite movie of all time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happy 40 years to this amazing wonderful classic! I just love E.T.

Geeze, they didn't need to add any more special effects; IT WAS PERFECT THE WAY IT WAS.
Luka cried watching that😂
Such a shame Amadeus isn’t doing the same thing and going the George Lucas route of releasing only the Director’s Cut on Blu-Ray instead of the theatrical cut.
Is the original unaltered version of ET available on Amazon prime?
They took away the shotguns and replaced it with walkie talkies

Satyajeet ray
One of the best director in indian cinema🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳🇮🇳
I'm sorry that I'm gonna destroy everyone's childhood right now.
E.T. is actually based on the script of an unproduced film, "The Alien", written by Lifetime Achievement Oscar winner, Satyajit Ray. This film was supposed to be made during the late 60s to early 70s, directed by Satyajit Ray and starring Brando and Peter Sellers. During Ray's stay at London for observing the development of Kubrick's "2001: A Space Odyssey", he was approached by a man named Wilson, who was an official of Columbia Pictures, and wanted that Ray would work under a production of Columbia. He came to Kolkata to read Ray's different stories and scripts, and came upon one short story named "Mr. Bonku's Friend". Upon reading it, Wilson requested Ray to modify it by replacing the main character with a child and make a script like so. Ray made the entire script and gave it to Wilson, who went US back.
However, a few months later, Ray came to know that his script has been leaked and several copies were spread among the big studios of Hollywood. This script was even read by other prominent personalities engaged in filmmaking like Scorsese, Attenborough, and Arthur C. Clarke. Because of this, when ET came out, Ray, along with the other mentioned people, noticed many serious similarities between "The Alien" and "E.T." . On seeing a controversy rising, Spielberg said that it's his original work, and that he never knew about Ray's script. Most prominent filmmakers still believe that Universal came upon a copy of the script, on which Spielberg made the film.
Hope all understands.

Jacob Sylvers Schindler’s List is number 1 but this is a close second
@- king- i think u mean the opposite
I thought E. T was terrifying, countless nightmares, my brothers would put the video on and I would instantly run out of room lol
You’re not the only one, but I do love the music. ET the alien is a scary one.
how old were you? i want to show it to my 6.5 yr old, but im not sure
Welp try to think E.T is not "E.T" we know......may be just may be he's been "assimilated" ;)
When I watched this as a child I was actually TERRIFIED of his screaming
Now that I’m older I cried from sadness
One of my absolute favorite movies. I was born the same year this movie came out in 1982 so I didn't see it until several years later. John Williams' music is timeless. However, I prefer the original version over the remake. The original feels more authentic and the extra scenes don't feel necessary to the story. It runs fine though. A classic.
Happy 40th Anniversary to My Favorite Movie! My Childhood! 😍😉❤️
An adventure of a young boy and an alien. Spielberg at the top of his game. This is a very entertaining movie with an excellent cast. A very nice Family film , and a film you can enjoy over and over again. Brilliant soundtrack from John Williams.

The impact that made on those little kids in 80s and 90s...is for lifetime.(including me)
One of Steven Spielberg's Top 10 Best Films in my opinion. My favourite part is the ending when E.T. says goodbye to Elliot. I give this movie an A. 👍👍
For this movie thanks to Satyajit Roy.
I really enjoyed this beautiful moment when ET meets the little boy for the very first time 🥰
Hadn't seen this movie in years until I caught it on TV today.I forgot how wonderfully magical this movie is! Brilliant acting by it's young cast. You can really feel the bond between Elliot and ET. The flying sequences along with John Williams score still have the power to bring tears to my eyes! Many thanks Mr. Spieberg and associates for giving us this masterpiece!
I remember sawing the movie trailer in tv as a 6 year old and it fascinated me so much, I wanted to go to the cinema so badly. I was afraid to ask my parents and since then I haven't ever seen E.T.
I'm going to change that 15 years later :D
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, E.T. 40 years!!!!
yup
The verisimilitude of E.T. is so convincing that the eponymous character traumatized me for years until I forced myself to rewatch this film until the creature no longer terrified me. It took many viewings to achieve peace with this character.
Such a heartfelt movie! A peak of the 80's!
This will always be a timeless classic

I’ve went to the movies back in 2002 and watched this entire movie back there with all of these extra features within it and I’ve later bought this re-issued edition of ET the extra terrestrial on a disk set because it shows all of the stuff which was added to the movie plus they have all of the interviews and the behind-the-scenes footage of the movie plus the movie trailer because I remember before this was reissued, I remember me going to the movies with my sister and cousin to watch this movie back at the former capital theater in west Philadelphia during that time back in 1982.

Bullshit
@@Dperns efforts of plagiarism definitely is bulls**t
The main fictional story writer along with the concept n art of aliens behind this film is Sir Satyajit Ray not Spielberg !!! Though anywhere in the film it isn’t mentioned or given credit to the actual master mind !!! Thus may be considered as darkness behind the art of cinematography!!!
Mr Ray and his father Sukumar Ray implemented these alien character a long time ago through many poems and poetry of them , Professor Shanku is one of legendary character by Ray in which we can find the same, fact is by then the film industry of India don’t have such technology to create in the form of motion pictures along with the monetary issues !!! So the rest is just the happening , false histories and the European film industry looted so well !! Checkmate ...
😯😯😯😯😯😯😯😯😯👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
There were allegations that the film was plagiarized from a 1967 script, The Alien, by Indian Bengali director Satyajit Ray. He stated, "E.T. would not have been possible without my script of The Alien being available throughout the United States in mimeographed copies." Spielberg denied this claim, stating, "I was a kid in high school when his script was circulating in Hollywood."[30] Spielberg's friend, director Martin Scorsese, has also alleged the film was influenced by Ray's script.[31] Star Weekend Magazine disputes Spielberg's claim, pointing out that he had graduated from high school in 1965 and began his career as a director in Hollywood in 1969.[32] The Times of India noted that E.T. and Close Encounters of the Third Kind (1977) had "remarkable parallels" with The Alien.[33][34] These parallels include the physical nature of the alien. In his screenplay, which Ray wrote entirely in English, he described the alien as "a cross between a gnome and a famished refugee child: large head, spindly limbs, a lean torso. Is it male or female or neuter? We don't know. What its form basically conveys is a kind of ethereal innocence, and it is difficult to associate either great evil or great power with it; yet a feeling of eeriness is there because of the resemblance to a sickly human child."[35]
Ray first found out about E.T. from a friend, British science fiction writer Arthur C. Clarke, who was familiar with The Alien and believed it was plagiarized by E.T. Clarke called Ray and encouraged him to take legal action against E.T.[36] No such legal action was taken, as Ray did not want to show himself as having a "vindictive" mindset against Spielberg and acknowledged that he "has made good films and he is a good director."[37]
best movie of the 80s enough said
Thie movie is remarkable, even just watching the trailer and not yet seeing the whole film, 80's and 90's film, i must say are very amazing and memorable.

My 11 year old friend is I mean wtf
When I was 7 years old I was terrified of E.T., I thought he was very ugly and strange, I was already awake for 3 nights in a row after watching this movie. But when I was about 8-10 years old, I went to the Universal Park, and there was an E.T. flying ride, I was afraid of the whole ride, but the problem was the end, because E.T. said a "thank you Henrique" (Henrique is my name) until today I'm traumatized, thank you mom, for giving me this trauma
To elaborate, October 27th = night chase scene; Elliot sees E.T. for the first time.
October 28th = Elliot lures E.T. with the Reese's Pieces. October 29th =Elliot feigns sickness so he can stay home with E.T.; "is he a pig, he sure eats like one." October 30th = Elliott and E.T. get telepathically inebriated; E.T. phone home; Peter Pan story scene. October 31st = Halloween scene; iconic bicycle moon shot. November 1st = Michael finds E.T. looking pale lying in the culvert starting to die. The house is quarantined. The medical staff stay overnight trying to save E.T. November 2nd= E.T. dies at 15:36 or 3:36 pm. E.T. revives and returns home.
Actually, I just watched this movie yesterday! It's really good!!!

Both Satyajit Ray and Steven Spielberg are a piece of trash. Who wants to see a boring Bangalore Indian movie and an American Child movie. The real ginuses and the best are the directors from the Silent era. :P
I haven't watched this movie yet, but now I'm going to ask my parents if I can watch it!!
My second favorite movie of all time behind Jurassic Park.
If someone says doesn’t like ET, it’s because he/she hasn’t seen it
Its written by satyajit ray
I remember having both on VHS... I didn't think the differences in the anniversary edition were that big of an issue... stupid and ridiculous, yes, but not necessarily these huge things like everyone makes it out to be.
I didn't buy the 2002 DVD edition because both of my VHS tapes were working perfectly at that time and I didn't see the need. Just last week I purchased the Blu Ray Disc of the film, which was amazing... it's a beautiful transfer with higher quality than I would've expected. More than any other film I ever bought on Blu Ray, it really is like watching the film for the very first time all over again. I sincerely wish Spielberg had included the 2002 version on the disc (or as a second DVD in the set). I think it's important to see the film in its original state but it's also important to not forget the tampering that was done with it... I think every single person should have a chance to see the film in whichever format they wish. Sure, I think the 1982 cut is superior for what it's worth, but both are great movies.
Bailey Crawly the only thing different is E.T Being CGI....
The best way and perhaps the only way to watch E.T. is to eat pizza during the pizza scene, eat Reese's during the Reese's scene, eat Pez and drink Coca-Cola during its respective parts in the film.
I'm here for this year's 40th anniversary.
Awwwwwwwwwwww So cute "I'll be right here!

39 years ago today, this and Jurassic Park, both Spielberg movies, share their anniversaries on June 11 as that’s when they came out in the US.
E.T. week is from October 27th to November 2nd. It might seem like I'm making that up but if you count the number of days before and after the Halloween scene, those are the exact dates over the time span of the story.

Though Spielberg never gave him credit.

Yes absolutely right 👍 he was the first who had this idea in 1962 but the copies of idea were fanned out in America and later ET was made and it was the ditto copy of Ray sir .. the powers ET has in the film were carbon copy of Ray sir.. he went and talked but they denied and later he came back and started work for "Gupi Gain Bagha Bain", a bengali masterpiece. He had left us but we all knew he was cheated. ET producers should atleast pay a little honour to him for his work.
