  • In this tutorial, you will see how to tie a minnow imitation pattern named "Slab Crappie Silky Minnow." Originally, I started to design this fly to imitate an orange goldfish because an orange color bait is one of my favorite and productive colors.
Once it gets wet, this fly will slowly sink to your desired depth where crappie are, depending on what kind of line you use such as floating, sink tip, or full sinking line.
As the name of this fly suggests, this fly has a very soft and smooth body. The tail will constantly move when you retrieve the fly. The material list for this fly is very short and the tying process is simple as usual.

Beautiful! A crappie getter for sure! I haven’t tied a fly in over 20 years but watching this may get me rummaging through my closets in search of my old, modestly equipped, fly tying shoebox. Loved tying bluegill flies when the USAF placed me in Georgia and Virginia back in the day. Crappie fever has now afflicted me here in Cali...a pleasant ailment I think I can cure with some of your awesome fly patterns. Thanks!

The first fish that I caught on a fly rod over 30 years ago was a bluegill and I have been fly fishing ever since! In my opinion, one of the most fun parts of fly fishing & tying is to catch a fish with your own flies!! Thanks for watching and your encouraging comment!
