All that's needed to make cards work for EDH is to ensure that they target 'opponents' rather than these massive specific designs. JUST MAKE THE CARDS SCALE WITH HIGHER PLAYER COUNTS!

I think meld partner commanders would be a step too much unless the requirements for melding them are kinda tough to achieve or the meld itself isn't very strong. Just always having access to both halves of the meld is very very good.
I think it would be cool if it was "Partner with" creatures of course & you would have to check more things, than just having both of them on the battlefield.
I've got one for you... Warren Soul Trader. Why are you a wizard and not a warlock? Would synergize just that much more with the Most Wanted precon and plus sacrifice feels more like a warlock thing than a wizard thing.

I think what also gets me about Nadu is that it's not just twice per turn, it's twice per creature per turn.
And I think I'd have way fewer problems with that card if it wasn't per creature.

Re: Ulalek, the lore experts have clarified that it's not Ulamog and Kozilek's dead bodies smushed together (despite the name). Using Ugin's "hand in a pond" metaphor, it's apparently more like if they were holding hands, and so more of a unique brood member than a titan of its own
Have the lore experts come up with a way to not make it feel like a really disappointing execution of something that could have been really cool?

May be the shortest solo video of yours I've seen in a while, Joey! Love the breakneck pace of your dialogue; reminds me of Yahtzee's Zero Punctuation series!
I think the Ulalek thing is that it's just the leftover scraps and pieces of the two guys trying its best to glue themselves back together using Zendikar's own mana, hence the 5 colors and being tiny.
Also, Omo is THE least fixing-dependent 2 color commander. You can cast her whether you have green OR blue, and assuming you used a land to do it, you then have access to WUBRG mana.

I feel like the extremely high, half-descent-into-insanity energy of this video mirrors the current climate of the magic community in general and the modern horizons 3 previews very well.
We're all overstimulated from Magic; anything and everything has to be _fast_ to match the speed of WOTC

I think the issue with Twice Each Turn is more in regards to memory issues. Especially for Nadu, which gives it to all your creatures. Did you target that creature with two auras already this turn? Or was it just this one and the other one? And lord help you if you're running identical tokens. Personally I prefer "choose one that hasn't been chosen this turn" effects. Still allows multiple triggers without going crazy while also providing a variety of value options.
Definitely with ya on let commander fend for itself. I jumped back in around Kaladesh (2016) where Kaladesh and Aether Revolt combined had 13 legendary creatures vs Outlaws of Thunder Junction has 43! And that's not counting the commander decks.
One of my favorite decks is Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund from the Alara block... A block that only had 15 legends across three sets.
Iirc, Ulalek isn't actually the two of them combined in the way you're thinking.
Remember, what we see of the Eldrazi are just the parts we can perceive, the hands dipping into the water from the blind eternities.
Ulalek is like Ulamog and Kozilek holding hands.

Yeah. Two in the same color identity when energy was originally in all 5 colors leaves a lot of energy cards out.

The fact that they printed one energy card each for both black and green, then made them insane combo pieces that barely need any other energy cards to go off and will explode in value day one is just a slap to my Sultai shaped heart.
I wish they'd print more than 2 good green cards when every other color keeps getting power crept versions of their colors top staples while green gets a..."free" cultivate? And a 2 mana dork that taps usually for 4g? Blue just got better gilded drake, a land that instantly activates tron, etc, colorless just got all the insane eldrazi support which most are just "x staple in another color, but better/reflavored for spawn." Green really out here the worst color by far
The missed meld card ulamog + kozilek is the biggest lost opportunity of the year. Yes it would have meant putting ulamog and kozy in the deck, and probably with partner, hops it seem so neat for a precon having 2 commanders, what the chances.. if the didn't want to burn two mithycs in the main set, they could have just made two "small" titans, like kozilek reborn and ulamog reborn. Instead we ended with the really SMAL one (the effect is really strong, but it isn't linked in any way with kozy and ulamog, see brisela). What was the desing team thinking, really.... Disappointing.

Tbh not everything. Like the annihilator on the commandzone. Apart that there was annihilator on the command zone before with pretty much any titans, the new guy its just fine. Needs lots of death triggers do his things and needs bad cards do even have annihilator.
We need to get over “everything is for commander.” Modern has 1-2 dozen playable decks. Commander has much more. It makes sense that more cards end up in commander.
I’ll take a guess that most modern players have 1-2 decks. There is a smaller amount of a cards a modern player may want. Commander players have 1-30+ decks. It makes sense people feel like these sets are geared to commander when you own so many decks.

The thing that I hate about Omo is giving creatures everything counters. The land ability was already super cool and is pretty much what the deck is built around, why did it need to have that extra stuff on top of it? I swear most modern commander designs have enough ideas on them to make two simpler, more focused commander than one that does so much you can't keep up with it

3:12 While they may have officially said this wasn't the case. The commander collection product has been completed. It was just a way to utilize resources set aside from a previous product to hopefully claim a bit of their development costs by re-skinning it in a way that explicitly targets commander players. BLUE, WHITE & RED were the planeswalker's spellbook products.

Nadu is probably one of the most contentious card designs for me in recent memory. Giving all creatures the "twice per turn" ability in colours that have access to blink spells is absolutely egregious and really speaks to how they're pushing so hard for cards to be desirable in Commander specifically. Hate it.
Simic really is the least interesting colour pair mechanically and they're doing nothing to change my mind about that here.
Hard to even call it contentious. I don't think I've seen even a single person claim the design is good. I really don't know why they thought it was.

The Omo deck confuses me - mostly because there are only like 3 or 4 things that have payoffs for lands being every type and basically none (if I remember correctly) for creatures being every creature type - despite that being what Omo uniquely enables as the face commander. Also I feel like a better example of "why is this here" in the Omo deck is Chromatic Lantern, because do you really need a 3 cost artifact that makes lands universal color producers in a deck that is only 2 colors, has a bunch of landfall payoffs, and has a commander that allows you to do that to your lands while she is on the field for the same mana cost?

I just kind of expected a deck with the face commander doing that to have stuff in it that benefits having lots of creature types or benefits specific types so Omo would let creatures not of that type gain said benefit.
Yeah. It feels like someone misread lantern as it giving out land types rather than just fixing normally.
I think the creature thing is mostly there for flavor reasons tbh. It would be weird for the shapeshifter queen to not do any shapeshifting.

Haven’t played against it yet, but Nadu already seems like a “kill on sight” commander to me. Absolutely busted ability, especially in simic.
For Ulalek, I think bit would have been awesome and wild if we’d gotten two new versions of Ulamog and Kozilek that partnered with each other as commanders, and then could meld into Ulalek.

Maybe it's just me, but I like that cards get designed "for commander". It gives WOTC the opportunity to play in design spaces that would be unfair/unbalanced/unfun for 60 card formats but could be absolutely amazing in commander (e.g. Prisoner's Dilemma or Ensnared by the Mara; just to name a couple). The issue, in my opinion, is that commander lives in this weird grey space that is "recognized" but also "not recognized" by WOTC.
If you want to watch Joey NOT BREATHE for 6 1/2 minutes, watch this video. Also, "Modern Horizons 3: Commander, the direct to Legacy set" tweet was just...accurate. Just accurate.

Okay, what, wow? I had to listen to this twice to follow that long, fast, energetic rant. All valid points, but it's like someone let the 12 year old kid out from inside Joey's poised exterior.
Also, per the Energy precon: I suspect that WotC couldn't really get away with printing two separate precons of the same colors and theme in the same set, but they could for two back-to-back sets. Modern Horizons is a great place to release all those mechanics they'll never return to again, or for years (e.g., Energy, Splice with Arcane / Spiritcraft, Cumulative Upkeep, Snow, etc.). So this deck makes sense. Also, if you ever tried to build it, there *aren't* enough Energy cards to make a viable deck using Dr. Madison Li alone. The new precon and MH3 itself give you what you need to create the deck. The fact that there's also a Fabricate (servo / thopter) commander tucked in there is a nice nod to the set's mechanics also.

Now, about the content, I need to say that I generally agree on what you said. This expansion/set/whatever is called now, feels like the only only merit will be to make this game even more expensive, by introducing some ridiculously powerful cards/staples that will have an even more ridiculous price. I'm kind of sad about it.
Also, why is Avenger of Zendikar the only card in the Omo deck that cares about creatures types? ADD GROLNOK YOU COWARDS! But for real, there's already a couple of frogs in there. While you're at it, Kaseto is no stranger to precons and there are a few natural snakes, too.

Here's my unhinged opinion: MH3 is a joke set. All the Horizon sets are. Direct-to-modern product is just an excuse to give up on card drsign and induce power creep, and it blatantly shows in every single card spoiled. I refuse to use any cards from them, at least until they get reprinted in a commander specific product down the line as they often do. Also, the set symbols always look like they were whipped up in MSE in five minutes by someone with no graphics design background whatsoever. This time, it's a staple remover. There, now you can't unsee it. Have a nice day.
Yaaas man, preach! Ever expanding game design ends up making it just look... weird. I was hyped about the set, wanted to have all the cool new toys! Then I sat down and thought.. hang on, I'm not even that interested in these cards because they just do most of what already happens, but more. And weirder. And I end up not liking the set. Also because the foil commander decks are literally just the same deck but in this weird foil, with two alt-art treatments. For more than double the price (!!) I expect more than double the treatment, and y'all can't sell me on 'this is seventy bucks worth of shiny'. Disappointed!
For better? Or worse. Theres a better? Stronger cards powercreeping basically every theme out there =/= better game. Ive fully stopped buying cards period the last 6 months bc i keep seeing spoilers of cards yhat are just powercrept versions of what im building. I dont play low tier casual bc basically everyone around me is old gaurd with 75k+$ collections. Buying cards means im intentionally building a bad deck to what everyone is going to have soon. I cant afford to buy all of it so im buying none of it and moving on. Mtg isnt a chinese gatcha game. We dont need to endlessly shit out "this staple, but objectively better in every case its typically seen in but worse in this niche example" cards like the goblin you just showed. Its a power crept pitiless plunderer with a sac outlet bolted on for less mana. Oh no, it costs life? In black thats almost a positive not a cost not to mention 1 life=1 treasure, is grizzlebrand lvls of value. Why is this a thing

Honestly, Joey, I don't think there's much room for Wizards to expand how much counters can do after printing literal everything counters.
It's too much. The power level is too much. The absurdity is too much. The prices are too much. Never before has a set just made me content on not playing anymore 🤷♂️
The training explanation completely lost me. I think if training counters happens it will be errata later to say Bushido counters but also I'm placing a bet right now Sensei Golden-Tail will never be reprinted so how many people will actually be confused. Typing this out makes me want to make a confusing deck call me evil.
I LOOOVE this fast paced video, and its the first video I've really watched from this channel, and I can't wait to be disappointed by everything else when I proceed to check out the channel's other content :P

We EDH players got battle for baulders gate which imho is the best commander set of all time and complained how underpowered everything was. The current state of the game is the company directly catering to us wanting more powerful cards.
I have not been psyched for a set like this since Betrayers of Kamigawa. I feel like a 20yo again (just more broke).
i agree with everything excepttt ulalek. The card is crazy powerful. And the draw back of eldrazi was its color limitation, which it no longer has. So all the classic good stuff cards now go into an eldrazi deck, with double triggers. but yes, it didnt need to be the meld of the two and just a random eldrazi and the meld being in the deck and continue colorless
Ulalek supposedly is from some time long in the past on a forgotten plane when parts of Kozilek fused with Ulamog. Long before they were the massive powerful titans they are in "today's" lore.
The energy in this was really enjoyable, lol
4:31 I always had a problem with the mythic options, most (all but one) has an unsearchable basic land that burns you on one side and a bad card that i never want to see on the other. So I would always rather just play a basic and move on. The new uncommon ones are leaps and bounds more powerful, leading me to believe this was the original intent for MDFCs, but wizards was afraid to shove that many into standard without mild testing.

I just think it's a waste to have this modern-focused set have so much air dedicated to EDH.
EDH can go one set without things being focused on. It's getting another slate of precons in 2 months.
The explanation for Ulalek’s comparable deficiencies in physical power can possibly be understood by the fact that is it from another dimension, and it was sent back to that dimension when it lost. Now it is reaching into our reality with whatever physical aspects it can and while the physical seems weak, its magical powers are still comparable

To me it is clear that the new jeskai energy cards were designed for the Fallout deck, at least a few. It's weird that they've released two decks that go to the same thing in two sets that are so close in time, and in the same colors. Something similar happens with deserts and the enchantment that comes in the Simic precon. Wizards designs a lot of cards that they, because they've paid for the artwork, have to print at some point. That's my problem with the energy deck.
Cayth, Famed Mechanist is really underrated and Norin the Wary will create so many Servo tokens for me.
For me I'm just going to skip this set even though there are a lot of good cards it's way outside my price range, play boosters were already not worth it and now these booster are double the price so there's no way stores in my country can afford stocking enough of it to where there will be supply of singles that all have inflated values because the sealed product is so over priced.
