      Thanks for the video. I travel to Houston a couple of times a year. I have a carry permit from Alabama and do carry while driving to Houston. It is good to hear the law from a person as well as a book concerning carry laws in Texas. Alabama is a right to carry state but many people don't realize that makes it legal for an Alabama resident to carry without a permit as long as they are in Alabama. Reciprocity does not apply if you travel into another state that requires a permit.

      We do the same in Indiana, and I carry daily. All the benefits of Constitutional Carry without the Texas heat and political corruption. I do like one thing about the Texas statute, the holstering requirement. We've has a few unfortunate incidents where people were simply sticking a pistol in their waistband or stuffing them in the pocket of their sweatpants. On case where a carrier sat on a sofa in Ikea while wife was shopping. The pistol fell out of the pockets of his shorts, and was left behind on the sofa. A couple of 9-year-old kids were playing on the sofa, found the pistol, and suddenly Ikea had a new hole in their ceiling. Fortunately, no one was hurt.

      @BakerStudiosIndy holstering is only a requirement when your weapon is open...there is no requirement to holster in Texas if your weapon is concealed.

    Texas is now "Constitutional Carry". However, there are still more advantages to getting a LTC. It can be used as a "get out of jail free" card if you accidentally carry it into a store that has legal notice that guns are not permitted. Also, under federal law, you can drive and carry in your car within a thousand feet of a school, while it's prohibited any other way. Do you know how many schools you unknowingly pass while driving in a big city?
    Also, if you ever get pulled over for a traffic violation, you must present it to the officer, but it also informs him that you are not a felon and have been vetted. I know, we shouldn't have to do these things under the Second Amendment, but that's the way things are right now. Hopefully, in the next Supreme Court session new 2A cases will be reviewed and decided. JMHO.

      Thanks for your "warning" re: OCing but it's 1 of the 4 lame/baseless myths people keep parroting about OCing. As a firearms instructor, you shouldn't be one of them. However, I won't argue the point further here as it's futile (IME).
      I was just saying -- for the record here -- that *I* OC...I wasn't expecting anyone else to (it takes a different person/mindset than a CCer is and that's rare) or persuade/convert anyone to OCing. When I'm out & about and meet people (and IF they ask about my carrying) I only use that opportunity to encourage THEM to carry, not necessarily OC (although I think EVERY American should). It's something CCers can't do (because they CC, so people can't see their gun of course!)...but ONE reason I OC is it's my own grass-roots effort, one-on-one, to encourage people to take personal responsibility for their own safety/protection -- not rely on others. My gun is my "Business Card" (if you will).
      That's been my message in the many conversations I've had for about 25 years now (and in 3 states, CO, NM & TX), and all the get-togethers (for OCers, gun newbies and even CCers) I've hosted over that time in those 3 states as well.
      Sadly though, it's very clear that MOST people refuse to CARRY (even CC) for whatever (lame) reason they have...so the odds are still in a criminal's favor they will not likely encounter an armed citizen and their crime-careers can continue without much concern. IMO, that's the more serious issue really, because the MAIN thing is to have a gun ON you and at ALL times -- even @ home. No Excuses.
      How one DOES that is up to him/her, as long as they DO it.
      Thanks,

      Does the seatbelt interfere with it?

    • @billredding2000
      @billredding2000 3 месяца назад

      @@pjm0621 No, because the belt goes under the holster, not on top of it. And, since I OC at a "semi cross-draw" position, and my holster has a 360-degree cant adjustment, you can set the cant for YOUR preferred angle for drawing. Cross-draw carry is especially "helpful" in a car-jacking attempt as it's ideal for the sitting position. Or, siting in a restaurant. The position works for standing, too...not all holster positions do well for both. Mine does, which is why I like the "rotary cant" type polymer (level II) holsters. You find the natural angle of your arm when drawing, and adjust the holster to fit that angle exactly so your hand goes to the gun naturally, smoothly and in alignment with the gun's grip.

      Not sure why you think it's BS because it's a great law, prior to this law the gun. had to be "on your person" in a waistband or shoulder holster if it was visible, now it doesn't have to be on your body. What difference does it make? Well for one, how else would you have a loaded handgun safely in your vehicle without it being in a holster?? For two, it allows us to use vehicle mounted holsters. We no longer have to worry about the seat belt blocking quick access to our gun.

      @@texascarryacademy I think it’s BS because one, it’s “yet another law“ (that I wasn’t aware of) another “gotcha” that lacks common sense. If concealed, it’s a pocket in a pocket. Two, If I’m getting carjacked it’s between my leg and my seat, I pick it up and bring to bear. If I have to remove it from a holster I have to use both hands or otherwise compromise the action.

      @@texascarryacademy Agree that most autoloaders without manual safeties should always be in a holster no matter where they are, including the nightstand at home. But not all guns lack a manual safety, and not all guns have 3-4 pound triggers. For example, normal unmodified revolvers are usually around 10 pounds, and double action/single action autoloaders like the CZ-P07, which if set up for manual decocking rather than safety have a first trigger pull of around 10 pounds, thereafter much lighter. For such guns, it wouldn't be a problem to be carried resting on a folded microfiber towel in the center console or glovebox. And I for one wouldn't throw any kind of gun into a console or glovebox no matter what!

    What gun do you recommend for a first time gun owner?

    • @texascarryacademy
      @texascarryacademy  3 месяца назад +1

      Well, what ever gun fits your hand properly, doesn't matter if you are a fist time owner or not. There are a lot of great options, Glock 43X, Sig P365, Smith and Wesson Shield, HellCat. Try them all and see what fits better in your hand....

    This seems focused on carrying in the car. What about elsewhere? Do I need it holstered if I am walking in my neighborhood?

    • @texascarryacademy
      @texascarryacademy  3 месяца назад +1

      The title of the video is "vehicle carry" so yea, we focused on the vehicle. How would you carry in a neighborhood if not in a holster? Would you walk around with it in your hand?, stuff it in your draws? I don't get it....Everyone who carries uses a holster unless the gun is in. a bag or purse but even then it's in. some type of holster that covers the trigger guard. How else can you carry it in a safe manner?

    • @SingleMalt77005
      @SingleMalt77005 3 месяца назад

      @@texascarryacademy I agree with you and I would use a holster and my wife would use her purse. I guess I was a little confused about whether I could "open" carry it in a holster or "conceal" carry it inside my jeans or in a shoulder holster under a jacket. Unlike the car situation, my understanding is I can carry it however I want outside a car.
