I escpecially love how, instead of having a screenshot of the scene where the music plays, you have an actual
live loop of the scene where the music plays in the game.
    A very nice touch.

How are RPGs more capable of creating creepiness than a lot of horror games? The Mahavid segments from the Leviathan DLC and the swamp witches from The Witcher 3 are so much more effective at freaking players out.

    • @skyejensen954

I think where a lot of horror games (and other media) go wrong is they rely on jumpscares, body horror, slasher tropes...that sort of thing. Truly good horror leans heavily on the fear of the unknown, of things beyond logic and comprehension, and Mass Effect (and especially this DLC) does that amazingly well. It's brilliantly-executed cosmic horror; everything to do with the Reapers is.
Or: cheap stereotpyical horror tries to scare you with an abyss. Good horror knows that it's not the abyss itself that's worth fearing; it's the things staring back out of it; things that are so far beyond comprehension you can never face them and remain unchanged or untouched

@@skyejensen954I’ll add my hypothesis on the subject as well - I think it also has to do with the fact that you expect to be terrified when you launch a horror game which isn’t really the case for RPGs, thus when you stumble into a creepy segment of the storyline it has a larger effect on your reception of the said segment.

    • @AhmadWahelsa

You're not wrong, you're literally speaking facts, if you play horror games, you expect to be scared, if you play non-horror games, you don't expect to be scared, when i was young i legit have a fear of going into forests in GTA SA, than playing the entirety Resident Evil 4

Citadel remains my undisputed favourite DLC in all of Mass Effect, maybe even one of my to favourites in gaming in general.
But I cannot understate just how great Leviathan is. The atmosphere, the great mystery of it all. You're searching for something that has not only killed a Reaper but has left them scared. The Reapers. _Scared._ And just when the pieces start coming together, the very thing you're chasing, metaphorically speaking, stares at you from the darkness it calls sanctuary and tells you to get fucking bent before scurrying away into it's den after sabotaging your path forward.
I love the Leviathans. An ancient race of giant, psychic juggernauts who just so happen to hate the Reapers more than they than do you for practically kicking down their door and dancing your way into their living room. Shepard got lucky. Very fucking lucky.

Actually, if the Asari government would not of kept secret that Prothean device that you discover with Liara and Javik on Thessia, then we'd of been more prepared against the Reapers. I love the Asari, but their culture hoarded that information to spearhead themselves ahead of any other species out there.

It first plays on Thessia within that Asari Temple. I absolutely loved it, especially when clicking on those artifacts and having Liara explain the lore behind each one. What improves on that is having Javik there too. Absolutely mind blowing if you apply it to our world. Imagine our history actually being a fabrication, a complete lie to what we were tought. I really appreciated the writing of Mass Effect 3 in regards to Thessia. You can feel the absolute uncertainty, confusion and anger in Liara.

@@FEAR3371 Yeah, the attention to detail is fantastic. If you took your time with Mass Effect you'd find loads of fantastic dialogue. @@LPeck1985 I replay the trilogy each year. This year i waited for the Legendary edition, because Mass effect 1 combat , mechanics and gameplay havent aged good.
I read the entire codex and on ME 3 pretty much if you bring Javik to pretty much every priority mission you can discover a lot of new things from his past, lost species included.
I wish someday someone could do the impossible to do a mod for bringing your entire squad on missions. I dont mind if only two can talk, but we got attached that much with the squad that we cant select only two haha.

    • @LPeck1985
      @LPeck1985 2 года назад +1

@@FEAR3371 I completely agree with you. I'd like to have the full squad with me, so that i can hear everybody's unique dialogue. Also, with romance options, back when Mass Effect first came about, I always chose Ashley. In the Legendary Edition, I've chosen Liara. Man, how I missed out back then! But now i will get to enjoy different dialogue with Liara. To me, she's canon for the Male Shepherd romance.

Best DLC in 3 by far, and one of my favorite missions in the whole series. Also, the Leviathans are clearly ruthless and psychotic in their elitism, so while I'm happy they pitched in against the Reapers, the rest of the galaxy should be fearful of those organics.
