Form a F-shape bar chord, keep applying and taking off little finger, and write any number of catchy songs on that theme. It worked for them, guaranteed to fill a dance floor when one of their songs came on back in the day..............and there is even a particular set of simple dance moves to accompany the formula. Real legends in the UK.

Try understanding the lyrics, if you can. Makes you wonder they were smoking at the time.
Riding on a big white butterfly
I turned my back away towards the sky
I closed my eyes to look for something
    Saw myself as really nothing
    Then I realized my butterfly
Wasn't really up there with me
We all make mistakes, forgive me
Would you like to ride my butterfly?
Riding on a long blue paper plane
    Getting seasick, sorry once again
    Landing strip is getting nearer
Hope the fog lifts, makes it clearer
Then I realized my paper plane
Wasn't really up there with me
We all make mistakes, forgive me
Would you like to ride my paper plane?
Riding in a three grand Deutsche car
A to B is often very far
Home is near, but such a long way
Legs and heads all feel the wrong way
Then I realized my Deutsche car
Is only there to get me somewhere
Even so I really do care
Would you like to ride my Deutsche car?

Thank you for doing Status Quo! Most likely the best rock band of all time! In my opinion at least. Boogie rock, blues rock, country rock, maybe hardrock but never metal. Almost every song of their makes me smile, get up and dance and swing my head to the music, singing along. I've been a fan since '84 when I was six years old. Life long love :)

Their period of 72-76 is full of great minimalistic bangers. Their sound kind of changed for the worst after that, but that classic era is so good. You can definitely hear the influence they had on punk with songs like this. 4/4, all downpicks with perfect overdrive.

"Heads down, no nonsense, mindless boogie," someone once said. Sometimes that's all you need. I don't think the studio version of Roadhouse Blues is anywhere near as good as the live version from End of the Road 1984, but others may think differently. There isn't really very much live footage of Quo at the height of their career which is a shame.

FOr a great intro to Status, try a live version of their "4500 Times" - 17 minutes. Rick is the rhythm guitarist, Rossi is the Lead guitar, Allan is the bassist, which leaves Coglhan on drums. Rick was known for being the fastest rhythm guitarist. So tight. But he could sing lead and wrote many of their catchy hooks.

They sold about 120 million records by now (still touring in 2024!) worldwide, probably 120 in the US, haha. Btw, Francis STLL uses the SAME green guitar. The exact same piece!. They were the first band having released albums with fresh materials in 6 (SIX) decades in a row reaching the charts. Lately Deep Purple beat them with 7 decades.

Interestingly enough, the video is a live performance, but they put the studio version over the top of it to make the, 'promotional film', version. The beauty of which is that the band are so tight with the way they play, you could easily mistake the sound being played as live, if you didn't know any better. The live version of this was taken from the Marquee along with, 'Don't Waste My Time.' Well worth a look/listen, if not a reaction. I think it's 30 odd studio albums to their name. Maybe 50+ if you include the live albums they've done. There's a whole lot of songs you could react to. The list is pretty endless considering how long they've been producing their music. Arguably, their best period was between '72 and '76, with many songs worthy of reacting to. Examples are:-
    Big Fat Mama
    Roadhouse Blues
    Don't Waste My Time
    Roll Over Lay Down
    Caroline
    Softer Ride
    Forty-Five Hundred Times
    Slow Train
    Break The Rules
    Backwater/Just Take Me
    Little Lady/Most Of The Time
    Down Down
    Bye Bye Johnny
    Rain
    Ring Of A Change
    Mystery Song
You could always react to the live version of this song, (plus, 'Don't Waste My Time'), from the Marquee, here

Lee, welcome to the Quo rabbit hole. Please don't take this the wrong way but it's pronounced (Stay-Tus) the drummer is (John Cog- Lan), a British Band that started off recording psychedelic type music then changed to rock & denim. Roadhouse blues is a great track. You commented that it was a simple track, Quo were also known as the three chord band (not entirely true) but as they also embraced the title, they titled an album in They also opened the greatest gig so far Live Aid (1985). They toured europe and UK this year, could be their last year.Mega band in the UK since late 1960s.Rick parfitt and Alan Lancaster have both passed away.

I saw them in Scarborough & Halifax, both gigs were sold out & they played a blinder. Rossi still brilliant vocally & his guitar playing awesome 👍

Yes F4 me too. Seen all line ups in total 150 times. This year was 1st time without Rick. I wasn’t sure, still enjoyed it though, glad I made the effort. Love or loathe him, Rossi is still on fire 👍

If you do Roadhouse Blues, I recommend the live version from The End Of The Road tour in 1984 (it’s on RUclips). Far better than the album version.

Classic Quo. Paper plane from the album Piledriver. One of Britains biggest & best live bands. Massive across all Europe & Asia, selling well over 100m records & 35m gig tickets worldwide. Mainly ignored across North America due to poor representation & lack of radio play in their 70s/80s prime. Massive back catalogue & best checked out live! Milton Keynes bowl 1984) & Download (2014) are good examples. 🎸🇬🇧👍

Fantastic band - not a bad track from Ma Kelly’s Greasy Spoon through to Blue For You that’s a lot of albums. Faves include Big Fat Mama, Blue Eyed Lady, Fine Fine Fine, Railroad, Mean Girl, Tune to the Music, Lakky Lady and the medley Backwater/Just Take Me - hell there’s dozens more - at the bottom of the Quo wormhole is another wormhole.

You may call it simple but it wasn't You have to play at the maximum level of your capacity and extremely loud. And they were clever enough to give the audience exactly what they wanted. If you're at a Quo concert you know what's coming and it always does. They simply boogie your ass off. Always.

Roadhouse Blues is a much covered tune but the Quo version on Piledriver is the best version not recorded by The Doors imho.
