Deep Purple did a truly amazing live version of "Child In Time' in 1970. A performance that is even more astounding than their Studio version, watching it actually be played live without any studio tricks. The film quality is also great, and it was recorded for a 1970 British TV show. This live version of "Child In Time" is among the most famous, and most frequently reacted to live performances ever.
Yeah... that's an impressive performance live, especially the vocals.. And lots of Reactions on it so it shouldn't be blocked. The audience btw was told not to make noise during the recording, so that's why they are so quiet.

@@L33Reacts Nobody should say the Studio Version of "Child In Time" is not great! That was the version I knew for decades. And it always freaked me out, that ghostly wailing and screaming, a perfect embodiment of the Vietnam War/Cold War horror. When I first saw that there was a LIVE video of "Child", I didn't want to watch it. I figured it couldn't be as good as the original, and didn't want to be disappointed. But eventually I watched it, and it blew me away. And now, the LIVE 1970 video is super-famous on RUclips.
A Rock classic album, I was16 at my very first concert, the Deep Purple in Rock tour in 1971, will never forget it😊 Please do it again with Deep Purple - Child In Time - Live (1970) - from a British TV show.
Bought this album in 1970 and the music I had been waiting found me and then there was Child in Time a bombastic operatic song of Wagnerian proportions. One of the greatest rock tunes of all time in my books. An epic masterpiece
Great choice from one of the fathers of hard and heavy rock. As you may have read in several comments, yes, you should analyze the live version recorded on a TV program in 1970. I am 63 and I grew up with all the bands and artists that wrote the book of modern music, and as a lover of all quality music I will tell you that you should have in your collection the best Rock album recorded live in history, the legendary Deep Purple Made in Japan, a beautiful gem. In my country in those years if you were a teen ager who had that album, man, you were the king, you took it to all the parties and they always got damaged or simply disappeared. I bought the vinyl a couple of times and finally on CD. At 50 they gave me vinyl again. Boy, when I heard the first beats of Highway Star I couldn't hold back a few tears. Keep on rocking Greetings from Barcelona.
I saw Ian Gillan fronting his band Garth Rocket & the Moonshines in a club venue that held, at most, 300 people, probably less, and he & the band had to walk through the small crowd to get to the postage stamp sized stage and delivered a storming gig. I think that was back in 1988 or 89. Great memory.
❤ 😱 OMG im sure this has been mentioned, but Ian sounds like Arthur Brown when he did "Fire" back in the '60's!! I remember being astonished every time The Crazy World of Arthur Brown played!! Ian is so good! DP is still incredible! Saw them in London Ontario outdoors as a teen 🎉🎉🎉
Great reaction to one of the greatest bands, and songs in the history of rock music. I agree with your comment on the vocals, even though each of the other band members were absolutely fabulous on their instruments. I think you would be even more amazed watching them perform this live. The best live version is Deep Purple live 1970 which was recorded by a TV station. It's the version used on most channels that react to rock music.
Absolutely excellent description of the things about Ian's singing that are amazing. Very well said, and pitch-wise, you perfectly nailed that first iteration of him just singing sound and not words. And then yeah he goes up to a high harmony interval, and then he ends up on the octave above where he started, which was already starting to be at the bottom end of the high range. Try even attempting to sing that high with a male voice, it's something. Every time I hear it, it truly feels to me like the birth of the iconic heavy metal singing style, before it broke out into so many different sub-genres and got highly refined.
The live version came into my life for the first time last Spring and changed just about everything in my life musically. Deep Purple transported me like no one before them. ❤️
Yup - LIVE performance is AWESOME!!! Live (1970) is the one I think everyone is probably talking about.... OH, MAN - Ian Gillan's vocals combined with EVERY INSTRUMENT just GOIN'-IN!!! SO GOOD!!!

SO glad you got to listen to the original studio version, 'Child In Time' is up there with the greatest rock songs, & this album is a prized part of my vinyl collection. WOW! Indeed.
Check out live version in 1970. Ian hits every note and Blackmore goes off. In fact, the whole band really show off their skills live. Deep Purple were the best live classic rock band at that time IMHO.
I heard a rumor that the greatest Blackmore guitar is not on any sound recording , but is in actuality played backstage when preparing to go on stage . He saves his best for himself and those in his inner circle . Knowing what he is capable of in front of a mass audience , can you imagine ?

We demonstrated how we created the musical performances that our school was famous for. I wrote and performed a song on one of the shows that got me a recording contract...but that's a different story. On the last show we recorded we were told we would be hosting an up and coming rock band called Deep Purple who were soon to release an album called Deep Purple in Rock. We'd never heard of them. We had a great day with them, recorded a song for the show and they invited us all to come to any of their live shows and get in for free. They were true to their word. If you want to do a truly epic reaction, react to John Lord's "Concerto for Group and Orchestra" featuring Deep Purple and The London Symphony Orchestra. This is 1969 remember...

Ian Gillan was unbeatable from 1969 to 1983, whether with Deep Purple, his Ian Gillan Band with its prog-jazz-fusion influences, then his other, heavier band simply called Gillan, and finally Born Again, his only album with Black Sabbath. By the time Purple reformed in ‘84, his vocal form had dropped off a cliff (he definitely ruined his voice on the Born Again tour).
