So some comments, again, will try to avoid spoilers. This is pretty much all the backstory we get on Fern. As you saw, she is an orphan from the "southern lands". All we know is there were some kind of conflicts down there, no idea what or what they were about, and her parents died. Again, we get very little info on the politics of this world. We know there is a royal capital, which is where the heroes left from and returned to. No idea what the country is called, how big it is, etc. Some of the towns they go thru have someone in charge, who may be a noble, but no idea what nation they are part of, if at all (or like earlier Europe where it was a collection of little duchies and principalities that may be part of a larger nation). I guess as it doesn't really matter to the larger story, we just don't get that. You asked if all the episodes are like this one. Hmmmm. Rather NOT say. Instead I'll say please watch the next 2 episodes and revisit that question. You asked in your comment on episode one about reaching to groups of episodes. That's up to you. Some reaction channels do one episode each, tho its clear they are going to immediately watch the next one. Some do a 2 or more at once. Its your channel, do what works for you.
From the poster of the show, it looks like we watch her age throughout the show, so it's very interesting that that's all that they give us in regards to Fern's backstory. I guess her parents and why they died really aren't that important to the overall story. You're making me very excited to watch the next two episodes! I'm going to watch them tomorrow, can't wait to discuss later this week. I think I'll keep posting them as separate for now, but maybe combine them later down the line. As always, thanks so much for your comment!!
This episode had several excellent examples of symbolism with Himmel as Sky. When Heiter fell, we saw the massive rain storm. Himmel was crying. When Heiter tells Fern about his lost friend in the flashback, the backdrop is a clear blue sky. When Frieren finds the Blue Moon Weed, she is framed against a beautiful sky, showing Himmel is with her and happy.
That all makes so much sense, and it truly is so beautifully symbolic! Thanks for pointing that all out, I'm going to go through and watch the episode again to see those scenes again.
