The bottom line really, is you have to go with your gut instinct. We typically know when someone needs to be terminated, and we typically ride the clutch way too long because we try to be nice, or we think one more intervention and pep talk will change things. It never does, and we just postpone the inevitable and continue to incur damage along the way. If you're a small business, there's no room for toxicity and/or nonperformance, it will hurt or even take down the company, and isn't fair to the employees that are committed and conduct themselves appropriately.
I learned about this the hard way. Rushing to hire people simply because they were qualified was a TERRIBLE mistake! I won’t ever do that again. Slow to hire and DAMN QUICK to fire is my new mantra.
In my brief 39 years on this Earth I have noticed some get away with whatever and some don't get away with looking cross-eyed. I have noticed more firings due to conflicting personalities rather than poor work ethic, gossiping, etc. Also, where I am from if you don't belong to certain social cliques and background you don't get hired for good jobs regardless of education level, work experience, etc. Much luck to you finding those ideal employees.
I worked for a boss in a large Construction company back in the late 1980's and he actually loved to fire people and even bragged about it . He never fired me but he threatened it many times . I learned that as long as he threatened to fire you once in a while you were OK. The people he never threatened did not last very long .
I agree with u. Ive fired people before. In Australia we have the option 'casual, FT hours'. Each week the staff call for hours. If they dont , no hours allocated. If they call its just a simple 'we have no hours for you'. After a couple weeks theyve moved on & stop calling. Thats it didmissed. If keep calling Just a quick, you need to look elsewhere, we dont have anymore work for you. (no face to face)
I think everyone should read “How to Win Friends and Influence people”. Great life skills book. Maybe in the future, if I hire ppl, I’ll include a book report in the interview process lol
Some places (Mexico, France, Italy, Spain, etc) is harder to fire people, so when you do you need to have a good reason to do it, and even after that, you need to be able to prove that it was done legally, following all law requirements or you will just end up with a lawsuit from the former employee.
1Frist thank you about all information and advice and i very appreciate and never forget that most information from you it is very honor to working with you because you have experience and contact 2 second I m always listen to the suggestion and i want to be successful 3 I respect you because you shared that information from your company i m appreciate that. I m appreciate people there are important information and there are sharing (about me) information it is very important and finding good people with experience. And inderstanding me
Good informative video. I agree with some of what you said, there are all sort of issues why people get fired. Unfortunately it makes it bad for the next person becuase some employers will get a person's resume that may have the some of the same things as the person they fired and they won't hire that person because of it. which is bad, not everyone is made from the same cloth. People with the same resume or the same work ethnic as you or someone else should have the opportunity to show that they can do the job. Don't just pass them over because of pass experience or because they seem the same. I have had that happened to me on some occasion but the people I have been fortunate to work with always sings me praises. Have good night Andrew. Thanks for the video.
I have been blindly holding on to a senior employee in my tailoring business, and now that his manipulation is clear to me , I need to get him out. It is not easy but I know that he will cause damage even when he poses not to be engaging in anything other than his work. I think it is an ego issue with him as well.
I just came over to youtube right after firing someone to see what other employers' experiences have been. I made the mistake during the firing process of adding in a more personal note, which they took as an opening to air their emotional grievances and flip the script on me. So I'd say, based on this experience I just had, to leave all personal feelings outside the door including making 'personal assumptions' about the employee. Especially when firing someone with a victimhood mentality and leans towards being emotionally manipulative.
Dealing with people is a pain particularly those from different cultures.I am thought of as being blunt and direct by my workers,American workers accuse me of being callous, yet all I want them all to do is get the job done right and bring in the money. Is this too harsh?
Memphis Kong It's never a good idea, if you can help it, to involve family and friends in your business, specially if you're just starting up. It just makes things more difficult. Once your business is well established and running successfully for couple of years, then you "might" consider hiring them. At this point, policies and your company culture are well established, and you have 'proven' yourself in successfully running your business; there's a record/history. Therefore, it becomes more difficult for them, as new hires, to challenge the status quo and try to tell you how to run your business.
What type of person enjoys (1) being leveraged to make someone else rich (2) Answering to an authority figure (3) performing the same task everyday like a robot? Answer that question and you know what to screen for when "hiring", which is a polite term for buying wage slaves.
Wow, I never thought that you were never in the corporate rat race! So we have this in common..😃👍 I can relate to the subject of this video and looking back I couldn't recall if I was holding and employee too long to be fired. Maybe you were a very young entrepreneur..
Thanks for your video! I have a lady who works in my small business and shes been flirting and performing sexual activities with her supervisors and co-workers, at one point I saw her getting it on camera with 4 of my staff members, the thing is her work performance is really low and I hate her, while the guys do a really good job and they dont bother anyone else in the workplace, any advice if I should fire this broad or the Male employees? I strongly feel the broad should go since shes the one being flirty and causing problems in work and her performance sucks, she also has a husband and two children at home that doesn't know her discreet behavior in work either, and if I do get rid of the Male employees, it would just happen again if I end up hiring 4 new male employees.
Hi Andrew, Sorry to de-rail your video topic. I thought this is your latest video and you might reply here. I need help in regards to relocation due to crypto investment activity. I am in UK. At the moment I haven't made any gains/profits yet. So I wont be able to donate $100,000 to your business for help in return. Am I safe as long as I keep my investment in crypto and outside of UK, till I have enough to pay you? and secondly in the mean while, am I going to get into trouble by converting £500 worth of crypto profits into pounds and transferring into my bank account ? (for the purpose of food, DDs and etc). Thank you
This may be somewhat of an unpopular opinion but REALLY REALLY think before firing....simple as that......In Norway you can't just fire someone you have to go thru a court I think ...it is almost like getting an eviction....If someone has been fired it really can have a big impact on their life.....I not saying that it is something that never needs to be done. I feel like oftentimes people get fired because the boss doesn't like them. In Norway in the process you have to explain what they did wrong and give them a 90 day period to improve....They really try to eliminate firing because the boss didn't like someone. I feel like this happens far to often in the US. To avoid possibly getting into a firing situation screen people before you hire them.....this is important.....heck I think it is very rude to interview someone if you not going to hire them.....only interview people who you really think are a good fit for the position. Also I think why do people commit suicide, why do people have mass shootings and why are people depressed. I just think to the simple issues oftentimes. People or business where not very nice to them! Think twice before firing, severing a business relationship, breaking up with someone .....etc we need to have empathy for one another plain and simple......even IF that means sacrificing some business profits from time to time.
WARNING: MUSIC INTRO WILL BLOW YOUR EARDRUMS!
New intro music is TOO LOUD !! If I turn it to the correct volume, then you are too quiet when speaking in the video
I love it. Gets me fired up. Up to 11 please.
Turn it down when the music is on. Turn it up when he starts to speak.

Good stuff!
Working in a corporation won't teach you nothing about firing or hiring .... I belive in hiring slow and firing fast ....
Hire the person who can share your goals, belief, passions. Fire anyone who is not on time, lazy, unhealthy person.
Only room for one boss.. If you hire someone that constantly challenges you then are they a team player?.. I vetted many years ago..
Dealing with people is a pain particularly those from different cultures.I am thought of as being blunt and direct by my workers,American workers accuse me of being callous, yet all I want them all to do is get the job done right and bring in the money. Is this too harsh?
Did you ever really, literally have an employee crap on your desk?
Fortunately only a figure of speech.
Would like you comment on firing family members or friends
