Have flown into Faro many times from both runway headings 10/28 , great to see the approach from the front seats ! Wonderful airport and the Algarve is just beautiful.
Thank you gentlemen, your videos are first class, an informative and enjoyable watch. I live very close to the flight line into EGNT and always keep an eye open a Eurowings approach.
Superb, complete approach/landing and parking. Normally they stop filming before the parking. It's always educational see the view from the cockpit and the importance of safety on the ground. Tks for refering FM car. Next time you are invited for a Pastel de Nata.
Thank you so much for your good and helpful feedback! On my channel, almost all landing videos show also the operations after landing until the shutdown of the engines.
Fascinating as always! This has been a highlight of my Saturday mornings for quite a while now. Also, I love those slightly longer videos. An idea for the future. Maybe you can do a full turnaround video. So start with the approach, inculde all the ground ops and then the departure all in one video. Keep up the great work :)
Thank you so much for your financial support of the channel as a member and your good feedback! There is already a Malaga approach with ground ops and departure on the channel and the same thing for a full working day to Samos in Greece and back. I will keep your suggestion in mind and see if we can do more like that. Right now., I plan to publish the departure from Faro, including the ground preparation in a separate video. Please stay tuned. All the best to you!
Thank you for your answer and recommendation. The malaga video was literally the only one I haven't seen on your channel :) I'll watch it right away! I am also looking forward to the paro departure. Although the unpopular option, I personally prefer the departure videos. Can't really tell you why. It just feels like there is even more happening in the background :) All the best to you
Thanks for watching and for sharing your good feedback! Yes, sometimes I fly have to fly from Cologne. I am looking forward having you on board soon! Have a nice day!
Another great flight with some spectacular scenery. Interesting point to make is that the person I introduced to your channel a week or two ago just returned from Faro on Wednesday. Having flown there and back with a side view, she is now sitting at home watching the cockpit view. 😂Nice coincidence for her, eh? 🙂
Thanks for watching and for your financial support of the channel as a member! This is very interesting to hear: First flying in the plane and watching the approach from the passenger window and then watching my cockpit video at home. Have a nice day!
Thanks for this folks, watching the video as we speak. I've holidayed lots of time in Portugal...love the Algarve area...the beaches...the sardines...the people. Has the MCDU (in general) changed much over the last 20 years? Is it intuitive to use today? Anything needed to be improved?
Thanks for watching and for sharing your feedback! The basis of the MCDU software is still the same. Some additional functions and updates had been introduced over the time. For example: 20 years ago, we had to enter the routing manually. Also the wind. Now, most of the time, it is coming via datalink from the company. Including the winds along the routing at different altitudes.
Thanks for your good feedback! A visual approach is usually shorter. It saves flight time and fuel and reduces emissions and it makes more fun to fly it.
I entered a 4NM circle to aid a possible visual approach and the 8 NM and 25 NM circles in accordance to the MSA from the approach chart. You can see this at the beginning of the video during the approach preparation.
Hello again, loving the videos you been posting lately. So fascinating with what is going on in the cockpit. When you were fixing something to a waypoint/ marker on the mcdu when approaching, does that like update the plane computer internal info and shared across the network with regarding to the changes on the flightplan or only a temporary fix thing that atc put out?
Thanks for sharing your good feedback and your question! It depends: If ATC is telling us for example to fly direct to a certain waypoint, we enter it in the MCDU and the information is also automatically transferred to the other MCDU. So the FMGS knows where to fly to. The routing after the direct to point stays unchanged and the routing before is erased. If we enter something on the RAD FIX INFO PAGE, it is just for information and shows radials and circles on the ND page. It stays there until we erase it or enter something else.
Thanks for your great feedback! Based at DUS airport means that we always start the duty at DUS airport. But we may have to proceed from there to other airport to help out. Sometimes, we even have to stay in the hotel at other airports and do a few flights from the other airport before proceeding back to DUS.
@@WhiterockFTP For energy management reasons, I reduced the speed to 210 knots to continue with idle power as we were on the vertical path but did not get further descent. After the descent clearance was granted, I set the speed back to 250 knots.
The difference between TAT and SAT always amazes me, your FO mentioned the TAT was +50C when I would guess the SAT is around 25C? I wonder, if you could explain what causes this huge difference to viewers?
the difference is due to rise in temperature due to dynamic heating in this case kinetic energy, as the planes moving so fast all the energy is heating up so the TAT (True air temp) is higher. The SAT (static air temp) is the temp if the plane wasn’t moving at all. The difference it is so large is because of how fast the plane is moving. Quick example: You’re running at 100mph the TAT let’s say is 20C as you are heating up as you’re running, however the SAT will be 10C which is just the temp if you’re not moving
Thanks a lot for watching and for your financial support of the channel as a member! The question has already been answered. For us, the TAT is also a very important temperature because this is the temperature at the leading edge of the wing. The compression of the air at the leading edge heats up the temperature of the outside air. The faster we fly, the more the air will be compressed and heated up. If we do not fly, the TAT is the same as the SAT.
Sure, you can enter the block fuel also before the refuelling is completed. Without entering the block fuel, you cannot get a calculation of the trip from the FMGS.
Good job but no offense. Pretty high on energy particularly approaching 10 nm before touchdown. 250 knots crazy :)If I were you I would reduce the speed in advance a bit and lower the gear instead of extending speedbrakes. Since they are not as effective as when they are above 5000 ft and increase Vls. Maybe further reducing speed and early configuring could give you more time and comfort. Nevertheless I like the way managing manually control the ac and piloting skills, appreciated
@pilot8758 Thanks for your interesting feedback. The overall goal is to be in landing configuration and on speed at 1000 feet above the airport and on final track at 500 feet. This was all accomplished here. There are different options on how to fly such a visual approach. Ideally, you fly it with idle power until at 1000 feet. The speed was here not restricted somehow. So, maintaining 250 knots as long as possible shortened the flighttime. A higher speed provides more efficient speedbrakes. Sure, you can use the gear instead of the speedbrakes, but you do not want to retract the landing gear again if you see that you need to add thrust. Extending the gear early makes more noise and needs more fuel if you have to add thrust earlier than needed with a later gear extension. If the pilot flying is not sure if he or she can be established as required, I always suggest extending flaps and gear early. Being established early is safe, but needs more fuel than being established exactly on the dot. But being established too late requires a go around which even needs way more fuel.
Spectacular approach, with a wonderful view of the sea. manual landing perfectly succeeded. I thought it was "almost easy" to fly an A320, until I tried it on a real simulator... Congratulations for the video and for the great work.

The A320 family are most definitely quite beautiful! And (apparently) a joy to fly by the look of it.
I agree: Beautiful planes and it is a joy to fly them. Especially visual approaches!
Best channel on RUclips, and I'm a legally blind rocket scientist. 10/10
Thanks for your good feedback and all my best wishes to you!
Delighted to be in the cockpit with you.
