The opportunity was wasted if I'm quite honest, nobody is going to take the modest industry seriously if we produce stuff that doesn't look authentic or MODEST and some stuff looked incomplete. Ngl these people think they can whip a hijab on a model wearing a mini skirt and make her walk on the runway as if it's modest. Who they kidding? Smh

Safiah Hassan no as a designer I'm pretty sure I know what a swimsuit looks like, I was referring to many pieces which just looked styled nothing out of the box or anything original, some things were okay but mostly it was quite disappointing
Well to be fair it did say modest fashion, not hijabi fashion. Sure some of these dresses were ridiculous but even most practicing religious Christian women feel fine with wearing dresses that show the leg below the knee, as well as their arms if they can cover their shoulders and most of their chest. Hindu women may feel dressing modestly is covering chest, stomach, and legs but showing part of their back and hair. (Sorry if I'm mistaken on either) Modesty can look very different depending on cultural as well as religious background.

Aw, the lipstick-making reminded me of when I was little and my dad bought me a Barbie Lip-gloss maker that I'd wanted so badly. The results weren't quite so professional as the ones in the video ha but it made me so happy to make them for everyone.

most, if not all of the fashions were modest. most cultures allow arms and half of legs to be shown and it's considered modest because they're like the least sexual body parts. as for that outfit at 4:12 it was probably poorly made so the fabric was see through.

People who are saying 'those models weren't modest..' , seriously look at all them hijabis who wear super tight revealing clothes, which are not even modest! However, because they call it 'modest fashion' they should have made it a bit more decent.

I agree with everyone that thinks the collections weren't good enough to be displayed on a major event like this. But I don't really think that the designers "half-assed" anything, rather that most of them are probably (and evidently) complete rookies at this, and they should develop their skills for a few more years until it's time for them to showcase their designs at such a major fashion show. This is in no way the designers fault though, but there should be some type of casting director at LMFW who decides wisely which designers get to put out their collections on the runway, since their designs are going to be in the limelight, representing modest fashion. I assume from Dina's story about how rushed the promo-vid was that the event was put together in a tight time frame, so I understand how that could've been a problem. I'm in no way writing this to bash the people behind the show, I'm sure they all worked super hard to get this whole thing together, but if we want to be taken seriously in the fashion industry as modest (and fashionable) designers, then perhaps it's better having the designers who are truly ready for it to show their collections, even if it will take a longer time for the whole thing to be put together. Still amazing to see such an event taking place at the Saatchi Gallery. I respect that Dina is being honest regarding the collections, as that will hopefully lead to some re-thinking and a better show next time! Anyways, love to all my sisters out there doing their best to fulfill their visions and represent us, keep it up xo

While some of these clothes really were immodest, others were modest, just not suitable for hijabis. I'm a Christian and to me dressing modestly is different than hijab. Showing most of your arms, legs below the knee, hair and neck is perfectly fine for me and most Christian women.

I don't think there's modesty in wearing a ton of makeup and wearing bright, skin-tight clothing. Some people would beg to differ, but I think we could all agree that showing our bare butts is not at all modest.
EliteXtasy showing our bare butts isn't modest but wearing makeup totally is. The purpose of modest dressing isn't to turn women into ugly and dull creatures but to fulfill their dreams of looking good in a relatively modest way. Makeup itself doesn't sexually arouse people but bare bottoms do so there is hardly any comparison. By the way, what's tight clothing in your opinion might be modest in someone else's and you can always wear a jacket on top.
