- Legendary percussionist, Sheila E. stopped by Sway in the Morning to discuss her new musical project, Icon. The Oakland native discussed the inspiration behind her comeback and new album. Additionally, Ms. E. spoke about her initial difficulty with the film Krush Groove and temporarily quitting the film. Man I love Sheila E. One of my favs of the 80s era!!
This woman is the legend
Sheila E. IS the best percussionist, hands down. It also never entered my mind that because she is a woman that she would go through what she did with men berating her talent through the years. Whenever I saw her, either on music videos, live videos, I was amazed, especially when she would play 2 bass drums at once with both feet, blew my freakin' mind. I had NEVER seen anyone do that before she did it. Her stage presence is unbelievable and her performances were ALWAYS incredible. BTW, everyone seems to just remember her from Krush Groove, nah man, she did so much more than that. Everything from The Glamorous Life, to her doing We Are The World, to All live appearances on Romance 1600, Sign of the times, etc. was the sh*t and songs like Sister Fate (Especially the Remix), Koo Koo and Hold Me were the joints and her "Fresh Dance Mix" of Pop Life was crazy. I could go on and on. Sheila, I'm happy to see you again doing what you love to do. I appreciate you and your groundbreaking talent. Much Love.

a long time ago, Prince wrote a song called "old friends for sale". in that song it talks about some of the peeps in his camp that were coming out and revealing secrets.. "talking about things they don't know" & "people who said they would die" for him, "selling pictures & memories.." for "chump change to unravel the mystery.." its one of my FAVORITE Prince Songs.. & now that Prince is physically gone.. its like everybody that was connected to him, goes on podcasts or where ever they can "to unravel the mystery.. EXCEPT Sheila.. Sheila is one of Prince's Ride or Die chicks.. She STILL don't tell nada about Prince. Her Prince secrets are precious to her.. they don't get sold for "Chump" change.. Thats why i love me sum Sheila E
Sheila is the truth, just like Prince. Watching them play has the same effect everytime!!There is no better musicians than them.

....did This Lady just drink water from a glass bottle, THEN used the remnant as an INSTRUMENT???? BY WHISTLING INTO IT???? C R U C I A L !!!!! For those who did not know it, this is the person, excuse me, LADY that did the percussion on the infamous grown-up Michael Jackson breakout hit "Don't Stop Til You Get Enough." You hear her play a glass bottle filled with water using a metal triangle beater to tap out the sounds. Her credit was lost due to the insane amount of mixing done on the track, which was a common problem throughout Michael's works for years to come. But she was well established by that point anyway having played with her Dad Pete Escovedo, her fiance Carlos Santana, George Duke, her Godfather Tito Puente and others.
