Agree. Fignon was a classy rider. Worth reading his autobiography if you get chance ‘We we’re young and carefree’ He was gracious about 8 seconds and his other considerable achievements were too often overlooked. Gone to soon RIP
7:32 "When you cross the finish line, the stopwatch stops. And any seconds you have lost, they could be valuable seconds at the end of the Tour de France." Stephen Roche's words seem almost prophetic given how this Tour ended
@@ferdy77cc - Alberto Contador ... one of your Spanish speaking friends is definitely a doper, as was Miguel Indurain, and Pedro Delgado. Spanish are without honor.
Fernando Triviño Gomez de las Cortinas No. Lemond was outspoken about being against doping. Back in those days, the drugs they used were stimulants and it was almost exclusively a European phenomenon. The cyclists justified it by believing it was necessary just to complete such a grueling competition. Lemond wasn’t part of that tradition. Even the Americans of Lance Armstrong’s era have all stated they never used performance enhancing drugs until they started pro racing in Europe.
@@keirfarnum6811 Yes to all,and to be fair, Greg had THE highest maximum oxygen threshold combustion level (can't remember now what it's called) of ANY cyclist ever. I don't even know has it been surpassed even in recent years, but he had that record for a lonnnnnnng long time, decades after I think. So sad, if I remember correctly, that he never regained his unbelievable form due to slow lead poisoning from the shotgun pellets.
Thanks very much for the footage
I could watch this all day long 😍
As much as I was a GIANT LeMond fan I have really grown to respect Fignon (RIP)
