I’m from Canada. My father Serbian my mother Irish. I’ve been to Belgrade 1965-1972 & then on my own 1984-1989. In 1967 my brother and I stayed with my grandmother in her house. My parents stayed at a local hotel (because my grandmother’s house was small). On my birthday I heard my grandmother get up early. So I woke up too. It was probably 6am. I asked my grandmother where she was going, and she said to the market. I said to her “I want to go too”, but she said go back to bed and when I get home I’ll bake you a cake for your birthday. I told her “I want to go too, I want to go too”. She said okay. We went on the bus to Zeleni Venac market. I’m 62 now, but I have never forgotten that trip to the market. As a Canadian going to an open air market is not the norm. So this was a real treat. I watch my grandmother go from stall to stall, sampling the goods before she settled on the best produce. I watched her taste peas in the pod, and watermelon. I have cherished this memory of my grandmother ever since… even though she passed away in 1976. I loved her very much and I was her favourite grandchild. While my brother was sleeping and my parents were at a hotel… I had the best day of my life in Belgrade with my grandmother. I will never forget that day. Seeing the market in your video brought a tear to my eyes. на твоју љубавну успомену баба Мелање❤
You are very good with a camera. Professional, I guess. Very nice video. Just, when you visited St. Sava, seems that you missed the Crypt. It's half of an experience . Maybe next time.

Hey nice video. Just a small correction the city name in English is Bell+grade not Bell+grad the grad part means city in Serbian and it would only be used if you say the nema in Serbian which would be Beo+grad. Cheers! :)
@@scandmaster what I wrote had nothing to do with how you spell it but rather how you pronounce it. Bell 🔔 + grade (as in A+) is the correct pronunciation.
Can’t believe you didn’t at least say hello to a genuine Serbian dog crossing the bridge. Was enjoying your vid up until then.. would’ve loved to have met a dog from Belgrade.
@@thetravelingzam All good. I understand you have a lot going on & churlish of me to post that comment. He just looked to be crossing on his own & chance to greet a fellow traveller.
5:50 There was no war in Serbia..although, they were bombed by Nato at some point, because serbian government wouldn't stop the ethnic cleansing in Kosovo.

Thanks for clearing that up. I kept switching between the two because I wasn’t sure which pronoun is toon to use
It's actually Belgrade, not Bell....with two LL.
You probably know what a bell is in English.

It was fighting against ethnic KLA REBELS, ethnic cleansing was invented excuse to remove Milošević and blame the Serbs.
