It's been a year. I have clocked about 400 hours in this game since release. Most of it in December 2020 and the following months, playing online multiplayer with random people. So much fun was had. Gigantic amounts. So many nice people and new acquiantances met. Hundreds of matches. Dozens of eggplant runs, CO attainments, personally-set challenges. Now I've burned out. I know in late. But I miss twiggle. I remember playing spelunky and messing around with my friends and I’d talk about his “spelunked” series. I can’t believe the news went under my radar for a year. Godspeed.
This theme is like finding peace in death and becoming one with the atoms of the universe. Would make too much sense if it was an infinitely expanding area with no conclusion.
I'd personally enjoy an Endless mode for the game, in which you can save your run after you head through the door, every room. Once you die, you lose said run to the void. Every 7-99 becomes 1-1, but there will be a ^2 by it, meaning it'd be squared. Essentially, star constellation appears, but the character chosen will instead launch from the glowing star, crash through the 1-1 door, knocked out for a short cinematic and without all but one (+1 per run) item. And everyone does get revived of course. Now, imagine it's the same seed. Same run and everything. Right? But the floor's doubled in size, adding more generation to it. Same secrets, people also remember you, and maybe other things occur. Who knows? Maybe we should suggest this to the creators somehow.
@@edward9487 These sort of conversations happened after Spelunky Classic and Spelunky HD was released. There were mods for Classic that did something like this, and some talk about doing the same with HD, but they never quite got finished. Derek Yu has talked more about mod support beyond cosmetics this time around, so here is hoping that a more open Spelunky will happen in the months ahead with the online coop update (and beyond). Everyone wants more cool Spelunky adventures.
One of the best songs in Spelunky 2, “Ripple” has similar vibes to “City of Lost Hope” from Death Road to Canada. It’s song that starts off moody and slowly rises the tension in a way that emphasizes the journey it took to get here and accompanies you on what will be the hardest task in the game.

This theme makes me think of what Spelunky 2 is. It's a love letter. A love letter from derek. To all the HD and classic fans, who stuck with him throughout. Spelunky 2 is truly a perfect game. If spelunky 3 is made, i don't think derek will make it.
Dude it's so rewarding, I've gotten to cosmic plenty of times. And one fun thing about it is that this theme is very good at being able to listen to it for hours but also not getting bored of it.
I finally made it to this place yesterday, after 144 hours total. I got quite angry a few times either dying to Hundun, or the Sun challenge, or botching something along the way of getting the Qilin, but once I finally stood there in 7-5, seeing the vastness of space around me, with this music playing alongside it, an overwhelming sense of calm washed over me. I fell into a sort of trance for a bit. My run met its end in 7-8. Neo Babylon elevator + stun. I wasn't angry this time. Disappointed, yes, but still happy to have made it here all the same. It's really quite hard to put my appreciation for this game into words. This feeling alone made me forgive every stupid horned lizard I ever died to. And it really served to prove that you can get better at anything, if you just keep at it for long enough. And one day, I'll get there, to become one with the cosmos. Thanks, Derek.
Once online coop is there I wanna see 3 person cosmic ocean with each of the crowns. One player with true, one with the normal crown, and one with eggplant. The final challenge imo.
Am I the only one that gets emotion listening to this. All the other music in the game was good, they all seemed to fit perfectly. But this, this one I come back to over and over. Love it.
You guys gotta sleep, doing homework at 3am is a ticket to disaster, you're better off dealing with the punishment for not doing homework than ruining your sleep to do it
Didn't think I could ever do it, but I finally beat Hundun a few days ago. Now I just have this as my goal. I'm dreading it, but I've got a feeling I can get there.
Having been here before then reading up on the fact that there's an ending later, I can't really think of a reason to go back. Besides unlocking the journal entries and the occasional visit, I can't really say that ending the game via cosmic ocean (and I say 'ending' because beating cosmic ocean is something people with far more time and patience than myself will ever do, perhaps only a handful given that 7-99 is the real 'eggplant run' of Spelunky 2) is really anything to strive for over receiving the 'Good End' of just defeating Hundun. That is, unless there's some secret to skipping multiples of levels and shortcutting your way to 7-99; making it through 94 levels legitimately would take many hours, much more than I'm willing to invest in a run. Imagine dying on 7-80 or something.
Yeah I think defeating Hundun is the "true ending" of the game like Yama was for spelunky HD. I dont think the devs intend for anyone but the most insane people to actually make it to the end of the cosmic ocean, which explains the lackluster ending of 9-99. I guess we'll have to wait until the dataminers get to it to see if there's a way to get past the cosmic ocean.
Honestly? You don't NEED to go that far. But maybe you could do it, maybe you could be satisfied. Each run completed this way gives you a different constellation, based on HP, gold, speed, even your character. Go ahead. Name all the constellations, or even grab the best!
I only made it here once. It was awe inspiring, truly beautiful. Getting transformed into pure energy wasn’t even that bad compared to my previous fates.
I mean in terms of aesthetic sure, both are space themed with jellyfish but beyond that there are a lot of differences because of what both of those areas are meant to convey thematically
Thinking about this again it feels like the summit a little more. You push through all the areas you have seen before, with whatever new powers/items you got. There's also the whole idea of the countdown to 7-99. Aesthetic wise and difficulty wise it feels like farewell, thematic wise it kinda feels like summit tho
3 Months playing Spelunky 2, im getting closer the Cosmos are calling me, i don't know when but i'll reach to the end of this maze, i'll end what i once started

Shops, pets, and kali are not available on this map. That kind of implies that you need to have an immaculate run just to stand a chance at reaching the end.
For some reason this reminds me of certain lyrics I heard in the song “And You and I” by YES Sad preacher nailed upon the coloured door of time, Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme, There’ll be no mutant enemy we shall certify, Political ends, as sad remains, will die, Reach out as forward taste begins to enter you.

well, most people associate it with twiggle. who was THE most influential and skilled spelunky player, no doubt. but, he commited suicide shortly after not posting on his channel for a long time. R.I.P. Twiggle
Will probably never get to listen to this in-game. Haven't even reached Tiamat yet after 6 hrs of play (have gotten to Neo Babylon once or twice though). Still, it's fun to know that the game is actually quite extensive, if you have a lucky run and a good amount of skills.

This theme makes me think of what Spelunky 2 is. It's a love letter. A love letter from derek. To all the HD and classic fans, who stuck with him throughout. Spelunky 2 is truly a perfect game. If spelunky 3 is made, i don't think derek will make it.
such a beautiful track. i am compelled to actually get good at 'lunky just so i can hear it in-game
never heard someone call it 'lunky before. but tbh if you get good enough and upload videos or something that could be a legit phrase lol
is that the APKpure logo?
@@frayzard I just call it spelu
Dude it's so rewarding, I've gotten to cosmic plenty of times. And one fun thing about it is that this theme is very good at being able to listen to it for hours but also not getting bored of it.

Just learned that the musician, Eirik Suhrke, actually also designed the level pieces in the cosmic ocean!
Props to him
He made the H
Eirik Suhrke did a lot of stuff. When I learned he also did the music for downwell, I FREAKED.
@@Tftmt wait WHAT
5:25 the high pitch background here makes you feel something resonating with you
It's a good thing this soundtrack is amazing, because if you don't like it, getting to 7-99 will be even more difficult.
None of these viewers have completed or even gotten to Cosmic Ocean, including me.
I don’t even have the game lol. I need to get a new laptop, and by the time that happens it’ll already be out
bruhhh i almost got to the cosmic ocean but i couldnt find waddler in the sunken city😔
Me and my friends made it but got killed by the purple jelly fish
Lol I made it died on -26
@@ever963 wait so its endless?
Thanks, Derek.
good job man!
Once online coop is there I wanna see 3 person cosmic ocean with each of the crowns. One player with true, one with the normal crown, and one with eggplant. The final challenge imo.
I've never even been to the cosmic ocean, but this track is so beautiful it is now the only thing I want to do.
It still makes me sad listening to this music. Rip twiggle.
R.I.P.
Not me finding out randomly 2 years later after searching this song at 2am that Twiggle left us to become one with the cosmic ocean ;(
Am I the only one that gets emotion listening to this. All the other music in the game was good, they all seemed to fit perfectly. But this, this one I come back to over and over. Love it.
Imagine you are listening to this at 3am while doing your endless homework...
that's me
Im almost you, just without the homework. Somehow this theme always manages to put me in a depression mood
You guys gotta sleep, doing homework at 3am is a ticket to disaster, you're better off dealing with the punishment for not doing homework than ruining your sleep to do it
This gives an unique vibe...truly the theme of the universe
Didn't think I could ever do it, but I finally beat Hundun a few days ago. Now I just have this as my goal. I'm dreading it, but I've got a feeling I can get there.
you got this
Having been here before then reading up on the fact that there's an ending later, I can't really think of a reason to go back.
What would the point of skipping it be? If you want to end the game at 7-4 then do it.
Getting transformed into pure energy wasn’t even that bad compared to my previous fates.
anyone else get celeste farewell vibes from the cosmic ocean?
I mean in terms of aesthetic sure, both are space themed with jellyfish but beyond that there are a lot of differences because of what both of those areas are meant to convey thematically
Me!
It's also a final challenge fit for the toughest of players, I can totally see this
- final challenge
- space ocean
- have cool colors
- have cool colored jellyfish
Thinking about this again it feels like the summit a little more. You push through all the areas you have seen before, with whatever new powers/items you got. There's also the whole idea of the countdown to 7-99. Aesthetic wise and difficulty wise it feels like farewell, thematic wise it kinda feels like summit tho
3 Months playing Spelunky 2, im getting closer the Cosmos are calling me, i don't know when but i'll reach to the end of this maze, i'll end what i once started
So relaxing, Yet so deadly.
The sounds of otherworldly peace.
omg your pfp I remember that game, Nostalgic times...
Rewardingly peaceful and welcoming, considering it'll only ever be the grandmasters that will reach the Cosmic Ocean anyway
This theme reminds me of a legend somebody who inspired me to download the game and follow him in his footsteps. I hopw your doing good up there twiggle with your crown and vlads cape. Dont wory guys somebody in the spelunky 2 comminuty will soon reach the same skill level as him.
me who cant even get past 1-2: "yeah i can do it"
not ur fault, dwelling is unballanced as hell
Shops, pets, and kali are not available on this map.
That kind of implies that you need to have an immaculate run just to stand a chance at reaching the end.
acapellas farm blood with red cape + bombs&ropes
One that always hypes me in Cosmic Ocean
Great motivator to try and make it to the Cosmic Ocean
Having a social life is less rewarding than hearing the climactic part of this OST in-game.
when you get hit by a bouncing yeti corpse at 7-98
For some reason this reminds me of certain lyrics I heard in the song “And You and I” by YES
Sad preacher nailed upon the coloured door of time,
Insane teacher be there reminded of the rhyme,
There’ll be no mutant enemy we shall certify,
Political ends, as sad remains, will die,
Reach out as forward taste begins to enter you.
This stage reminds me of Outer Wilds
I admire your curiousity, friend.
I finally got to this level to hear the music in-game. The reason I did it today specifically is that I am going full time with my business and wanted to celebrate the occasion. I feel so inspired and hopeful right now.
Hahaha... Back when I posted this, I dropped out of college and went full-time with my business. I am now on my way to making a six-figure income with my new job. Life is funny :)
INB4 Albino fans come here after he beats Cosmic Ocean. (Good luck maggots!)

well, most people associate it with twiggle.
who was THE most influential and skilled spelunky player, no doubt.

@@disgustingrat4839 2 years ago nobody would have thought that, but now this song has a really deep meaning to all of us...
i made it to cosmic for the first time with a guy, we both died on 7-47 or 48. Surprising how we made it that far
this hits different after getting a constellation
So calming...
today we will be looking at the spelunky 2 world record progression
Will probably never get to listen to this in-game. Haven't even reached Tiamat yet after 6 hrs of play (have gotten to Neo Babylon once or twice though). Still, it's fun to know that the game is actually quite extensive, if you have a lucky run and a good amount of skills.
You can do it! I beat Tiamat in around 12 hours but I made it to Hundun for the first time yesterday and was too nervous to beat them. But you can do it!
@@ARandomDizzy Congrats! Yeah maybe one day :)
Heh...imagine not being able to get past Olmec...heh
Don't worry, I've played over 30 hours and still haven't even REACHED Tiamat yet. (Damn 6-3 always kills me off beforehand).
Damn neo babylon in 6 hours??? I think it took me 20 hours to get there lmao
