The closest thing to Jimi that is still alive. Ernie Isley does not get enough love for his talent. This man is a legend that does not get the love he deserves.
This is the man who inspired me to wanna start learning how to play the guitar, this besides Jimi Hendrix is my favorite guitarist, l wanted to be just like these guy's, these two men are the reason l started liking guitar, l spent thousands on pedals, to try to make a sound similar to theirs, this man is my idol in Guitar.
ernie can't get his props for being 1 of the greatest guitar players ever , the isley brothers don't get their props just like the group chicago no one can top these 2 groups but the isley brothers have had a multitude of hits in the 50s 60s 70s 80s 90s i don't think the temptations can top this great achevment
Gotta toss Chris Jasper in there..huge part of their song Writing and producing. Along with Ron's voice, Ernie is probably the most identifiable part of their sound.
@Ronald Williams yes bro ernie was actually a drummer before he picked up the guitar, he would drum for his brothers at around age 12 and 13, and he still can drum of course but when he later discovered guitar it became his main thing

Not me, lol. He definitely was the most talented one in that musically gifted family. In terms of his guitar playing, few have managed to combine rock, funk, and soul better than him (thanks, Jimi!!!). He's also an accomplished drummer to the point where his playing has often been sampled by many hip-hop artists. He also has an underrated singing voice, which makes me wonder if he ever got to use it on any of the 70s and early-80s Isley brothers lps. Had a hand in writing many of their big hits.
We love and miss Jimmy Hendrix truly but now we have a another master of the strings as he prove himself so many times as the best in 2017 and beyond it's Ernie Isley that carry that load on his shoulders. He paid his dues over years as well as he's #1 now------------Dunmore Music of Monee IL
We all sat on the side of our beds and copied our favorite guitarists licks in the 70’s. I missed Jim I was there for Ernie. Man I saw him in Cleveland upfront and personal a few months ago. My old ass cried during Summer Breeze. Love you Dude thanks for the memories. ‘Diamond in the rough”,’ be good to me”! Real ERNIE FAN!
Wow amazing! Jimi won a talent contest to help get him started at The Apollo Theater. Jimi was also "discovered" near there in Harlem at The Cheetah Club & auditioned at the Cafe Wah? by Linda Keith (Keith Richard's girl friend at the time) & Chas Chandler of the rock group The Animals looking for new talent. My dad was a NYPD cop in Harlem (beat cop at 5th & 125th?) back in the early-mid sixties as well, said he used to chat with famous boxer Sugar Ray Robinson near a tennis court. Julius Erving (aka Dr. J) was also discovered near there at Harlem's famed Rucker Park. Small world! :)
Just like Hendrix. We didn’t understand at first but then we get to realize that this something way different. And for young boy in the living staring in awe what a great contribution to one of the greatest guitar players of all time . Ernie is one of the greatest of all time now. If not the greatest. Ernie and Carlos are my favorite than George Benson. LB Nov 2022
Thinking the same thing Steve ...So many times a performer stops to tell a story its about sex drinking or drugs to get the crow hyped up but I much rather hear unknown rock history like that ...You could always tell Ernie was deeply influenced by Hendrix...Now we know why !.lol
Thanks for posting! I’m revisiting my Isley Bros memories on RUclips but rediscovering the great guitarist here and on Isley Brothers channel. On other songs you get beautiful vocals
3 separate standard strat pick ups just gold plated. telecasters had just two pick ups. 70's version had two humbucking pickups or one top humbucking and one angled pick up
What a great story. I knew Jimi played backup for the Isley Brothers, but I did not know he was their house guest. I also had heard that Ernie was a student of Jimi's but I did not know to what extent. What an experience for Ernie to cherish.
Everytime I hear Ernie ... I just stare at his videos premeditatively stare at the video like a guitar junkie and ask ... what's Ernie's got for me??? To me there's Jimi and there's his lil bro Ernie! And lil bro's are always copying their big bro!
@@michaeldavies4871 @Jay Fender - If you listen to Ernie he usually plays like this. It’s a normal procedure for him to over work a song. It isn’t just about the length of time but how musically interesting of what’s being played and what it sounds like. Isley is boring after one bar. I already want to turn it off. Do either of you play an instrument? If so then you might understand the elements of music. Did everything always turn out perfect when Hendrix when he was on stage and did he ever over work a song? He might have. Listen to this version of Who’s That Lady with Isley: ruclips.net/video/TKsBEg9pp1o/видео.html It too is completely over done and boring. He plays the same thing over and over again. @@TheseusTitan - Whether or not any of us play an instrument doesn't matter, the mere question offers nothing but an assumption of expertise when all you're really doing in offering a personal opinion. It's a logical fallacy. Frankly RUclips and most of other social media sites are full of self-styled experts who claim some kind of providence over others. That said, you're welcome to an opinion, but it doesn't matter more than any other just if you happen to play and "understand the elements of music". The last time some said something similar to me, he was claiming that SRV was a far better guitarist than Hendrix..uh-huh. Incidentally, I've been listening and playing for nearly 40 years.
@@TheseusTitan upload a video of you playing like Ernie dog. Do it, do it...you talking about music like Ernie didn't learn from Hendrix himself. If you listen to Hendrix Manic Depressive performance at Winterland in 68, Ernie's version really captures Hendrix spirit although I must say that Ernie is cleaner and more precise. Similar to SRV performing Litte Wing which I find very clean, precise and beautiful. Hendrix is Hendrix but in the terms of virtuosity Earnie is right there.
Ernie may play with the opposite hand than Jimi. Both played with their mouths and behind their backs like the baddest black axe men to ever strap on a Fender Stratocaster.

thats true my friend - his solo cd HIGH WIRE shows this
Ernie is so under rated. He just happened to be in a band with some brothers that were just as talented.
Wow... Ernie is no joke, he plays with allot of power, all these guys do. That bass player is legit. So is the drummer. Total wall of sound.
Drummer Will Calhoun from Living Colour
a lot*
Legendary!!! Jimi Hendrix, Ernie Isley, Eddie Hazle (The Holy Trinity)
Don't forget Mike Hampton. your on point with that one
Ernie is truly one of the best guitarist around. He can really play the heck out of that guitar. 🔥🎸
Jimi probably couldn't have conceived just how many guitarists owe him a debt of gratitude
Ernie ishley should be in the rock & roll hall of fame
Technically he is along with the rest of The Isley Brothers, but I know what you mean. He's a bad ass guitar player and VERY underrated!
He's not because the R&R Hall of Fame is owned by The Man who infiltrated rock music.

Ernie is the freakin bomb.
Ernie Isley is the Greatest r&b guitarist ever.
People will probably disagree with me, but I think Ernie was the most talented out of all the Isley's,
no one dissagrees. dude has played bass for them and drums, he made and played the drums for footsteps in the dark
No disagreement here.
Ron had the gift as well. You cant fake the range he used to have in his vocals. Still does to some degree.
