Our roots are in the music. Our cultural connection to the motherland, in order for it to be genuine it must be searched by us, and we must seek wisdom from those who came before us.

I love the closeup of his picking technique at 2:39. Notice the index finger picks both down and up. Another impressive thing is mastering an instrument with such a round neck. For most guitarists, an 7 inch radius would be way too round.

This song is also played by Toumani Diabate on his first album Kaira in the late 80’s. It is very beautiful just like this version.

Groovy little tune. But apart from the charm of the video it never the less calls for greater exploration of what this instrument actually is. It looks ancient but has metal pans attached to it which are modern and seem to affect the tone and volume of the strings just from first sight. I will have to research this a little further. Thanks for a really cool performance video.

The instrument is called Ngoni. You can find a lot of musicians who can play this instrument on RUclips. Especially musicians from Mali. My favorite is the band "Super Onze de Gao".

Nope. The blues sound came from dysfunctional guitars and makeshift picks
The blues genre came from ragtime
