It's very encouraging to see the level-headedness with which you approach everything you do, how you speak about costs without sensationalism or excuse, but just stating facts. Also, it was heart warming to see the "Inspector" so bushed she crashed in the sled. I feel blessed (and a little bit envious) to be able to share your journey. Please keep up your excellent work and look after eachother. Greetings from Sweden 🇸🇪.
That's the first time I've seen how to teach a child to ski. It's fascinating to learn at such a young age. Your family skiing vacation 7 people in one cabin. 🤗
What a nice train and a great way to travel. America is so car centric, everyone would be sitting in their SUV in traffic. That green sleigh certainly came in handy!
Family time is so important! Glad you made the effort. I am learning so much just watching the build. Surely your boat-building Viking ancestors are smiling upon you.
First of all we love your videos, it’s not only educational but so interesting to watch. Now as my job as a Fire Fighter here in the UK I hope you have fire fighting equipment and plans in place incase of a fire as I’d hate to see all you hard work go up in flames. Heaven forbid anything like that happens but always best to be prepared.
Really like the design changes, agree forward leaning window reducing glare. With the cost of lumber $3000 isn't bad. So glad you could go skiing and take a break.
Johan mentioned a to me very important issue. ''A One Off'' boat. I've always been like that. Regardless the extra costs the satisfaction to have something nobody else has is worth tons.
Just a note on screws, those with non-destructive head types (not slot or Philips, but, say Torx or similar box-type head), although a little more expensive, for any large construction project, well worth the extra in terms of saving for not destroying the head during insertion (so you can later take apart better) and just for accuracy of insertion too. What a great episode, and glad you all got some skiing time in.
good idea with putting the galley on the centre line, and moving the shower to the centre where you have more headroom, maybe think about having a hatch above the shower to let steam directly out which will help with mould etc
Living in the Pacific Northwest I feel blessed that I can go skiing with my grandchildren in the morning and sailing in the afternoon! It is so good to see you starting out Vera at her age!
Wow! What a treat this episode is!! When my sister and were young teenagers, our dad was the Manager of a ski resort in Banff, Alberta. We lived at the resort for a couple years and grew to be skiing fanatics! I am so happy for you to enjoy such a break and recharge your spirits. I hope for you sailing open waters brings the same sense of freedom and the same Joy's. Thank you from us here in Victoria BC. Happy Friday by the way!
It's such a joy to see Vera take to skiing so quickly! The skiing trip with the whole family was a true gift...and the Swedish train looked very comfortable and efficient. I miss good train service as here in the US the trains are an after thought, at best. Many years ago as a student traveling through Europe I had a Eurail pass and learned of the value of great train service.
Västjämtland (where Duved is) is my former home area. Now living in Kalmar is closer to you😉 I did hope for that change of windscreen angle. Much more suitable and adds more space for solar panels.
What a wonderful family vacation! Seeing Vera skiing and sleeping in the sled was precious. You folks are doing a wonderful job with the boat. Respect!
Going skiing for the day, on Monday, in the local mountains above Las Vegas. Late March, and there is still lots of snow and more coming. Never been this much :)
Remarkable. Over the years I have followed your adventure and after a 10 month hiatus and break from sailing videos I gravitated back to your site. What an ambitious project and commitment. I wish you every success in your project and look forward to following this piece of maritime creativity unfold. I am certain you will have an impact on many boat companies design ideas. This makes you two leaders in the field and justly so . . . lycka till 🤟
Every time I watch one of your episodes, my admiration for the three of you as people grows. You are decent, smart and focused group. It would be a joy and an honor to know you personally.
I've been following a half dozen sailing channels, just recently stumbled onto your RAN Sailing. Not sure why the RUclips algorithm hasn't hooked me up before! Anyway, you guys have the most enchanting story--I started back with your #1 and it'll be a few months before I catch back up to "here". In regards to the present I must say that your new arrangement for the forward slanted windows really sets off this design. Round portholes would be highly complementary of this stylistically, IMHO that's the way you should go.
Great to see the progress with the barn and the mold/frame. Will be a lot of fun to follow along as you get even further. Thanks for uploading your ship building adventure :).
I only found you about two months ago and have been watching all you videos. The best box set ever 👍 don’t know what I will do now with only one a week 😢 Congratulations to you both and you new crew mate Vera on a fantastic journey over the last seven years, I think Vera is as bright as a button, she’ll be at the helm soon. Both of you are an inspiration for any young sailors , especially with distant shores in mind. Not only do you entertain with travel but give so much practical advice and guidance. I’m so looking forward to your new boat build and if you ever in the Solent UK , let us know, would be great to meet you. All the best for the future from England
Very interesting episode. Waiting 2 weeks was worth it. Vera seems to be a ski-kid - maybe living on a boat gave her balance 😉 Ran III looks wonderful. Thank you and all the best.
This is a great video. I sometimes like to just get to the point, but I found myself enjoying the longer, more conversational style of this video. Very interesting.
I have been watching your adventure since before Vera was born and really enjoy seeing your progress. You show tremendous patience in getting everything as perfect as possible before moving to the next stage of the project. It’s going to be a beautiful boat.
You should definitely keep all the wood and parts of the framework for the build, they could be made into really cool Ran memorabilia, I bet you a local wood craftsman would partner with you to make such items for sale. Something like a Ran compass clock or boat wheel clock, wall plates, knife handles, ... lots of creative items that could be practical at the same time... Really like the new layout inside and on the windows, perhaps the portholes could pick up the same angle, or somehow you could make it a motif on the boat... So happy you got a skiing trip in, now on to making sawdust!!!
This is going to be one beautiful ship. I love the overall design. I really like the the plumb bow design. Reminds me of old Victorian steamboats. Thank you for documenting all this its going to be an amazing build
Brilliant episode - loved the skiing bit, how lucky Vera is to be able to learn so young. The budget section was great - open, honest and informative. The proposed redesign of the front of the wheelhouse is a major improvement in terms of aesthetics as well as practicality. Just great - Thanks
Thank you so much for showing us also some family actions, that skiing stuff brought so much memories back from my childhood when I did the same with my parents. Nice you can enjoy this days with Vera and her grandfather and grandmother as well.
How could you possibly be from Sweden and not know how to ski???!!! So cool you are teaching the little one to do it. It's a gift she will have for a lifetime
That's fantastic! A great trip away to ski and be with family. Vera is doing such a great job at it. Cool skiing with Mum. So funny seeing Vera out like a light. Wow, ready to start the actual build is such an amazing achievement. Thanks for sharing the cost and redesigns. I am so excited for the both of you. The boat looks beautiful and has that connotation of an older elegant design. Love the vlog. :)
watching Vera asleep in the sled with her boots trailing on the ground really made my day . This is how you bring up children , I don't approve of cotton wool parenting . Her progress with skiing was fun to watch . the ski fields in the north of NZ are steeper with limited learning areas so the learning areas are very busy. I am waiting for you to start laying up the hull . the framing sofar is similar to a steel hull and I have assisted in building three steel yachts in the past . ( almost 40 years ago )
Reminds me of my first time in Arctic Norway on my basic arctic warfare course. Norwegian kids can ski as soon as they can walk and were so surprised that grown men couldn`t ski! "What is wrong with you?" they would ask . It was an eye opener, that and the old granny skiing faster than the bus we were on ! Tusen Takk guys x
I've got a son who's just turned 14.. when he graduates high school at 18 my plan is to surprise him with giving him one of my Harleys and I'm getting ready to start building a custom Harley for myself and upon graduation his other surprise and a dream of mine is to have our bikes shipped to Sweden and spend the summer riding throughout the country including Finland and perhaps Norway.. you have a wonderful motorcycle especially custom built Harley chopper culture over there that i have to see with my own eyes instead of just online
Just arrived at our Swedish forest house and recognized that weekly episode was uploaded 1 min ago 👍👍 Thanks, it be a great evening in front of the fireplace with Ran 🇩🇰🇸🇪🇩🇰
Yay! The front windows tilted forward and the slight overhang of the coachroof is adding a little more of the Garcia Exploration look. Good move. Form follows function and looks good too.
Following your journey a long time, enjoy the way and your lovley daughter, realy talented in skiiing. A wonderfull treasur. wish you all the best with your project, follow you each week. Thanks for your be in your project. Good luck and greatings from germaney
The build is really coming along well and is looking fantastic. Since you could potentially sell the mold once you have completed that stage and you have all 22 frames numbered. Would suggest perhaps also numbering / colour code the internal bracing and supports for each frame if they are different. This would help when reassembling the mold again. Thanks for sharing your project with us.
For an ocean going boat I think the rudder and prop should be protected by a substantial skeg with the prop in an aperture in the skeg. Any small loss of maneuverability will be more than justified by greater safety.
Lovely work, well done! For comparison I have just constructed the strongbacks for my 48 ft catamaran, the build frames were supplied CNC cut by the kit company (Schionning/ATL) and provided a very easily assembled arrangement from the strong back grid to 21 stations for each hull. The costs were about double of yours (inc labour) but the great difference is that with 2 of us we were able to fully assemble and square/level in 4 days. I was amazed at the ease of the process and look forward to starting the planking.
Really great vid. loved the skiing. Taught my son the same way, on a leash😄 Really made me smile. Now he"s doing the same with his kids. Cost so far not too bad by our costs in Canada. Starting to shape up. Beautiful lines. Look forward to rest of build.
The skiing was awesome!! had to be a great break from the build.this project is just fascinating and thank you for bringing us along!! I’m here for the duration and can’t wait to see her launch. Fair winds ⛵️
Fantastic to see the Family enjoying themselves on the slopes, the conditions looked awesome, except for several days of cold. Amazing, completion of the mold and now on to planking. Can't wait. The forward windows are a plus and love the changes down below. Best to all. Vera is growing so quickly, she really took to the slopes, so inspiring. Thanks
Ms Vera took to skiing like a duckling to water! Malin; you mustn't allow Johann to sleep the whole night away - schedule him six hours working, two off - around the clock. Think of how much progress he will make on the new RAN! The Strongback looks SOLID.
Very interesting stuff! I’m surprised your work to date hasn’t cost much more. Lumber is so expensive these days. You’ve done quite well. You didn’t touch on the cost of the design process. I understand specific information would, and should be confidential but if you could provide a general budget of what those services would cost on the open market, that would be cool to know. Great videos and your building a magnificent vessel.
Vera sleeping in the sled …too funny 😆
She looked tired and I said that she could lay down and she literally fell asleep in one second! ☺️
@@RANSailing Like dragging a sack of multi coloured coal LOL

Cosy like on a boat 😆
At that age they will often tie the tips of the skis together to always make pizza but Vera is already doing French Fries !!! nice
@@jackblah5842 🍕and 🍟. Brilliant 👏
What a nice train and a great way to travel. America is so car centric, everyone would be sitting in their SUV in traffic. That green sleigh certainly came in handy!
the design has a vintage elegance to it and not all modern funky looking
I like the tilted front. 😁
And the price to build big mold like that sound very reasonable to me! Cheers!
It’s a cool design feature! 😊👍🏻
Family time is so important! Glad you made the effort. I am learning so much just watching the build. Surely your boat-building Viking ancestors are smiling upon you.
Thank you RAN for 339...
First of all we love your videos, it’s not only educational but so interesting to watch. I like the forward window look. And I learned something. The forward window has less glare. That makes sense.
Johan mentioned a to me very important issue. ''A One Off'' boat. I've always been like that. Regardless the extra costs the satisfaction to have something nobody else has is worth tons.
You deserved the week off for some skiing, relaxation, and time with family. But, seeing you back in your barn working and planning is wonderful.
I love this kind of boat build . Real craftmanship. 😎
Added bonus of Swedish night train travel! Enjoyed that.

Vera sleeping on the sled says it all. 😂 What a fun trip.
I too was very impressed with how you teach a youngster to ski! Good job Vera! The boat is coming along nicely thanks for sharing 🥰
Riktigt frän båt. Älskar formen på "hytten". Otroligt fin investering...Tror jag🥰
Tack så mycket! 😊
Can’t wait to celebrate placing the whiskey plank with you. It should be live streamed.

sleepy Vera, so damn cool, sweet, and many more adjectives. Cute, Cool, Collected. Awesome
Mom's dragging Vera cross country in the sled and Vera is sleeping all the way. Thanks for the video.

One of the best benefits of the negative angle of the deck house windows, is that it eliminates glare from the instruments in the cockpit.

She has always had really good balance and I definitely think boat life helped ☺️

That boat needs a couple of those classic forward facing vent cowls. They're useful and very cool.
The ski trip was a wonderful interlude, very much enjoyed, thanks for sharing. Boat seems to be progressing nicely.
Wonderful Vera, wonderful family, wonderful Sweden!
Thank you so much for showing us also some family actions, that skiing stuff brought so much memories back from my childhood when I did the same with my parents. Nice you can enjoy this days with Vera and her grandfather and grandmother as well.
I very much am enjoying watching the boat build but the skiing today was a nice change.
How could you possibly be from Sweden and not know how to ski???!!! So cool you are teaching the little one to do it. It's a gift she will have for a lifetime
Because there are no many high mountains in Sweden!
South of Sweden is pretty flat and not much snow.
