p.s. loved the concept of the book recipe - mixing two or more books together to recommend a new one is something I haven't seen before. Definitely more of those please.
The Memory called Empire pairing sounds like they have elements of Neuromancer by Gibson. I like the if you liked this theme, you should take requests from your loyal followers and do it again
Good video. I like that you mention a lot of books that don’t get mentioned by the other SF Book Tubers. Surprised you mentioned Anne Rice…One of my favorite writers. Always enjoy your videos.
Yep, the format is fine. I'd say, get even weirder with your connections. If they were obvious, they'd be predictable and you'd just be left with 'these books are similar, but you knew that.'
"Imterview with The Vampire" and "The Name od The Wind" , these are your perfect matches. Well done! As to Luna. New Moon I would add also The Godfather by Mario Puzo and maybe Dune. When I think about Empire of Silence, there are two book series that are Ruocchio 's favorites and he took a bit from them, they were Dune and The Book of New Sun by Gene Wolfe. I am very glad you made such a video, I like the idea, it's for me a great inspiration . Sorry for not ideal language but English is my second and I'm not good at writing in it.
I am always delighted with your deep knowledge of science fiction books, authors and plots. I really liked this video with its recommendations for new books to try based on what you've read previously and thee are some great pairings here. Thank you. How's your Dad now, if you don't mind me asking?
Congratulations on doing the thing that I can never do, which is to name the book that whatever or the author that whatever. I have trouble narrowing down my favorite ice cream flavor to just 5, so this was quite the achievement in my eyes. Mint Chocolate Chip?... I'll get back to you.
Love these kind of videos. Going to check out Sea of Rust. I often find myself trying to find books that match a certain vibe. Sometime I complicate things by trying to think of a novel that might have the same vibe/atmosphere as a particular band or album (makes sense in my head if not to anyone else :)).
Perfect topic. I loved Murderbot and Sea of Rust so the recommendation makes sense. A tough one would be "If you hated this your probably not going to like this..."
When I started “The Dispossessed” by LeGuin, it reminded me of Dostoyevsky. “More Than Human” by Theodore Sturgeon reminded me of Shirley Jackson. So no, you’re not the only one who makes weird comparisons in your head.
Great video as always. I would like to recommend A Memory Called Empire to anyone who likes Dune. I mean both have space politics! Both have empires destroying other cultures.
Thought provoking choices and more ideas in what to read. Nitpicking . Jane Austen died more than a decade before Victoria became Queen. She was not related as far as I know to the Brontë’s, who did live and publish during the Victorian age.
I think a great idea for SF booktube video (unless I missed some vidoes, feel free to send links)... "If you like this genre, try these SFs." I see plenty of Fantasy to SF, and SF to Fantasy videos. But my wife for example likes mystery and suspense... what would be a great SF book that can also holdup as quality examples of other genres, and be gateways for significant others to get into SF a little more? (Full disclosure: My wife introduced me to Hugh Howey's Wool, so I give her a lot of credit for that.)
Empire of Silence is BRILLIANT! I'll have to check out Deathstalker for sure. Luna also sounds really interesting. Seeing that I only think of Red Rising though haha. That definitely sounds like a book worth reading.
If you like Altered Carbon maybe try Old Man's War, because they're both trippy, and without being more specific, characters get new bodies. I think Kowal is "Koe-al" like hoe, and Ruocchio is "Rocky-oh".
Some books I’ve never heard of (why I love your channel) and lots I haven’t read. Great video and lots of fun. Wonder what you’d pair with Slaves of the Switchboard of Doom: A Novel of Retropolis? It was one of my most enjoyable fun reads this year.
The Dispossessed by Ursula K Le Guin and Voyage from Yesteryear by James P Hogan I bet Hogan knew more about technology and economics than Le Guin. They are both about political-economic dichotomies but Hogan has a resolution.
Regarding Sea Of Rust, and other AI-themed stories, it's understandable that contemporary authors who are trying to succeed would embrace AI, being the current rage and all, but I find all such stories disturbingly naive. AI is the enemy of humankind. It is also yet another tool of the ultra-wealthy in their quest to enslave us and replace us. I think all authors should vilify AI at every turn and never take the foot off the gas pedal in this regard. Just sayin. Anyway, very interesting exercise here. Enjoyed it, as I have all posts I've watched from this channel. Cheers.
Thank you! As for AI portrayals being naive… i dont doubt it. But we could say the same about the books written about what was on moon before we landed there- i appreciate the authors’ speculation although they can be very off….
p.s. loved the concept of the book recipe - mixing two or more books together to recommend a new one is something I haven't seen before. Definitely more of those please.
I’m so glad you liked it! It was fun to do…
I liked your categorizations, especially the mashups and vibes. I did not know that 1984 was directly inspired by something else, good to learn.
Glad you enjoyed! Highly recommend We.
Your literary choices are superb. @@secretsauceofstorycraft
Great video! I love the idea of pairing by vibes alone. Do more!
More to come!

Hahah!! Dually noted. Will do soon!!

She cant be forgotten!! Not by me anyway…
This is such a great idea! Different type of 'If you like this' video and I love it.
Glad you liked it!! Thanks for watching!!
Yep, the format is fine. I'd say, get even weirder with your connections. If they were obvious, they'd be predictable and you'd just be left with 'these books are similar, but you knew that.'
Haha!!! 🧐 i will consider this… thank you for the idea
Based on the first two books, I think you'll like the Apple TV series For All Mankind. It's an amazing show that no one knows about.
I do like that show!!! Good recommendation!
I appreciate the effort and thought that went into this. Less superficial than we often see. Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for commenting

No worries 😌 i havent read entire books of new sun so couldnt recommend it. Maybe one day…. Thanks for watching…
Mashups: My brain hurts.
I love your content.
Awww thanks

How's your Dad now, if you don't mind me asking?
Dad is recovering well actually. He is still a bit slow but doing SO much better. Thanks for asking…

Haha decisions can b hard… but thank u for watching tho
Unusual format of the video! Loved it!
Glad you liked it!

I get that too!! Kindred spirits 😁
Great video. Sea of Rust I great. I like how you explained matching 5th Season and Foundation
Your posts are always well worth the wait.
Very kind!! 😊 thank you!
Perfect topic. I loved Murderbot and Sea of Rust so the recommendation makes sense. A tough one would be "If you hated this your probably not going to like this..."
Hmmm 🤔 …. Not sure anyone would enjoy that as much but it would b interesting
It certainly would kick the hornet's nest!
Added a bunch of books to my reading list ☺️
👍🏻
I learned more about food than I bargained for!
:D
I snuck it in there 😝
This is a really good video. I like all of the different type of comparisons you made and now I have a few more books to add to my TBR. Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you for watching!!

Hahah!!! Yay! Thank you! Those are pretty good comparisons - i kinda agree
Love the concept of this video! I’m adding some of your recs to my wishlist.
Yay! Thank you!
Along the lines of your 1984 section is Darkness at Noon by Arthur Koestler.
Ooh thanks
your are a professional creator
you took a kind of lame idea and deal it with your excellent way
superficial - vibe - deep smilarity
i like it
Aww thanks 😊 its hard to make 100% original ideas but this is my version.
Have you discussed Grass anywhere? I'd really like to hear your thoughts on it.
I havent yet- but i liked it. I will probably do an update soon
Great video as always. I would like to recommend A Memory Called Empire to anyone who likes Dune. I mean both have space politics! Both have empires destroying other cultures.
👍🏻
This is a fantastic video👍
Thank you very much!
Thought provoking choices and more ideas in what to read.

Ah!! Thank you for correcting me!!
This was fun!
Thanks 🙏
Thank you for organizing information in my second brain.
Any time! Hahha
You actually pronounce Yevgeniy Zamiatin close to perfect

I did that a bit in my scifi for beginners video- but i agree it should be done more….
The Expanse series is a great example of approachable sci-fi with great mystery and suspense elements!
Empire of Silence is BRILLIANT! I'll have to check out Deathstalker for sure. Luna also sounds really interesting. Seeing that I only think of Red Rising though haha. That definitely sounds like a book worth reading.
Wow! Love your channel, thanks for watching. I think you would like deathstalker!

"...far fung future..."
Far flung future 🤭 Talking is hard
The Dispossessed by Ursula K Le Guin and
Voyage from Yesteryear by James P Hogan
I bet Hogan knew more about technology and economics than Le Guin. They are both about political-economic dichotomies but Hogan has a resolution.
I just read inherit the stars from hogan-- it was FANTASTIC

Then you should do Mutineers Moon by David Weber. Ancient humans are everywhere. LOL
