All hot rods can have issues. Don't give up. If this is still the clunk or noise you hear have you checked your drive shaft? Ujoints are a very simple fix and common
it`s a noise every time it shifts..but it is not a clunking nouse
@@2muchBoost_that's fine but I'd eliminate every possibility before pulling trans
Check the torque converter bolts
I’ve been there before! Comparing my GN to my Hellcat. But there is something special about the GN, don’t give up on it. In the end you won’t regret it
They are a effing money 💰 pit I've got 25k in my new TA performance aluminum v6 block w/ heads. I just bought my dominator holley computer with screen was 5k its unreal. But it's better than spending the money on some gold digger that won't give you nothing in return
THE Grand national is the best looking gangster there is ,got be crazy to get rid of it ,that is history
I raced Grand Nationals back in the late 90’s. They were fun and parts were accessible. I sold it after some breakages. I picked up another one about 10 years ago from a friend of mine that bought it brand new in 87. It’s mint and now I only use it for cruising and car shows. No racing anymore on this platform. Now parts are even harder to find and more expensive. Still a beautiful modern muscle car that’s gets tons of attention.
Art Carr makes transmission kits for those 2004r's
You've got a very rare car on your hands, I'd keep it if I had it. I do a lot of work to my old schools myself, but for certain things, It's good to just get the professionals to fix it!!
It's too much work, he can sell it to me (lol)
After watching the whole video I'm going to say there is nothing wrong with your transmission. This is just my instinct. Seeing as how you have a LOT of loose stuff I'd get under there and tighten everything using torque wrench and correct specs. Even your passenger seat is flopping around. While under car grab your driveshaft and try to twist it HARD. Any play in the joints front or back will be visible
It could be something simple like a loose bolt on rearend or a shock. I'd hate to see you waste money on an expensive trans if not needed
I will check everything again
24.03 you can hear the noise in the transmission
From what I have seen, those cars can be awesome when they are all sorted. They look beautiful too.
The technology wasn't what it is today, back then. They can be real finicky.
Parts are harder to find today, and more expensive too.
To some people, it's worth it. To other's not so much.
First, let me say beautiful car, but most importantly, I love the Simmons wheels. Where did you get them?
it was with a group purchase back in the day
25:33 The Buick Regal is better looking than the Chevy on the left.
I agree
I feel the same with mine blew my head gasket just cruising, it’s a love hate relationship with these cars I swear 😂😅
I would put it on a lift and look under it to make sure its not your drive shaft or rear end the grand national is a rare car you might be able to sell it and get something else with less trouble do not keep putting more money in it get a Monte Carlo its the same body and it doesn't have the turbo engine
90 percent of the issue with these cars, is the computer! Ditch it, and get the Holley engine control unit for the V6 from Cruize down in FL.. and get a real beefed up transmission.
I got a classic F.A.S.T
@@2muchBoost_ .. go Holley, trust me.. Holley everything..
I never change transmission fluid unless it's mandatory
This was the first time ever i changed it...I was just eliminating the what if
@@2muchBoost_ It will always make it work if the fluid was never changed, the clutch material comes off and floats in the fluid, so when you change the fluid you are losing clutch material, it's all downhill from here, gotta send it to someone for a rebuild. Make sure to send it to someone who knows about these transmissions and can build it to last.
Add some Amsoil trans fluid on next filter change! I've owned my GN since new and after 37 years the powermaster brakes still work! I also own a '67 Camaro SS350,original #s matching with a 4 spd Muncie and 4.11 posi! Also own a "68 Cougar w/428 Cobra Jet been in family since '68, and all 3 cars run and operate correctly-DO MAINTENANCE!
If your #might turns into #selling I'm sure you will have NO issues finding a buyer for the GN. Good luck!
I live in Texas have a 700hp t-type tranny shudders and I had it rebuilt by AA MCO tranny specialists 1400 and now good to go .
Are you checking the fluid with the car off ? Supposed to check with car running.
It was running
It’s really hard to hear, but it sounds similar to mine years ago. It was the flex plate, small cracks where the bolts are for the converter. You will need to drop the transmission. Not a hard job just time consuming. Boost Crew in Louisville works on Turbo Buicks.
24-03 is when you can hear it
I've owned turbo Buick since I was 19 and I decided to sell my last one 10 years ago and I regret it more than any other car I've ever had
go see richard clark he is the turbo buick man
Yup
Get rid of it problem solved
The more you let these cars sit the more problems they will give you. I drive mine weekly and driven very hard when i do.
Very true, also when you add power these transmissions can only take so much
@@GW2_Livejanis for the trans
Sell it and buy a redeye. I sold both of mine and my life got so much better.
I was just looking at a Dodge Durango Hellcat a few weeks ago
Not a fair comparison.
I need to check the transmission fluid while it’s running. You’re getting a false reading by checking it like that.
Check the transmission mount and make sure it’s not broke. Everytime you make the 1-2 shift, the tail shaft could be bumping the car. If it’s not a HR parts transmission mount, it’s probably broke
Hay man was the car running when you checked the transmission fluid..😮
yes
I’ll gladly take it off of your hands
Just pay someone to build the trans, I would send it to Janis transmission or someone reputable for these transmissions
That is probably the only option i have , if it is the transmission
Hay man you are my man brother I understand maybe 1 day I can get me 1.
thank you, they are very fun to drive
Heck the gn is the reason for me to follow you!
Got an ‘84, idles good, but RPM’s bottom out when put into gear and it eventually dies. From what I hear it sounds like a trans/TCC issue
Bro, you have alot of stuff that seem not right..
You wont get rid of it.... you lie....
How much for the simmons wheels ?
Are you thinking about selling it
What is your career?
don't sell it get some help from someone that knows these cars
Give her a chance
I feel your pain. I’m really close to ls swapping mine or to get another classic car.
2muchBoost who does your trans builds?
Dave Husek at Turbo Buick Performance
It depends who also works on it people starting to be super scamers u say quaror gallons
I know these cars can be frustrating, but a car working perfectly does not provide very much good content for the RUclips page. Hang in there.
They are problematic! Get yourself a classic, get a BBC Chevelle
That is one of my favorite.
@@2muchBoost_ Me too!
Big Black Cock Chevelle WHAT ????
I bought a 92 gmc typhoon around the time i got my grandnational and these electronic controled classic cars are not the same as the earlier all mechanical muscles cars. i can't keep the typhoon running for more than 2 months before the ignition control module dies and the truck won't start. I'm doing a complete rewire of the truck with a maxxecu and a holley dual sync distributor. My grandnational will then go in for a driver side header gasket, t top braces, new window parts, spool fool bumper fillers, Some more tuning things now that the engine is finally broken in. I hear people talk about an all orginal car like the earlier muscle cars i just don't thing that same rule of thought applies to these cars especially if you want to drive and enjoy them. My grandnational already has about 20 grand in it from totally new lines vacuum, brake, fuel, all new ac components, engine rebuild, transmission rebuild, vacuum brakes, window racer, scan master G, and razor alcohol kit. I make about 500hp on the stock flat tappet cam rebuild. I follow a guy on Instagram he has a stage 2 block with about 1400hp and he uses the TH400 transmission in his.
I was looking to buy a Typhoon back in the day...i still love the looks of them
@@2muchBoost_ Mine is pretty solid but that ignition system is trash. That old style distributor and the ignition module sits right underneath the distributor cap. It should have been SFI like the grandnational but with my new update the distributor will be used. like a cam sensor in the grandnational the ecu will control the ignition. They only weigh 3800lbs and with the awd they scoot. factory 5.3 seconds 0 to 60 on 14psi of boost. I'm anxious to see what it will do with a tune and boost turned up. I probably will keep it at 400 to 500hp that transmission from factor was weak. Mine is built with 3000 stall tourqe converter. Engine built with forged internals.
That's because you're doing your own mechanics dude also if that's the original tranny then you know they go especially with that increase in HP so usually people go thru two of them and three is almost common too so yea the GN is the only reason as i take pointers from you while i'm looking for a precise one for the right price. Btw that Chevy is loud as -uck and that is a hell of a leak.
This is a built transmission and the oil leak is from the Ford...lol
@@2muchBoost_ Oh i thought i saw you pouring in liters of trans fluid.
