these things are less than 100 bucks on the used market all day long. if you need a first amp or a practice amp it's hard to go wrong with this. the katana before the katana is what the cubes were.

Yeah, I think the guitarist is from Galneryus... his name is Syu
this amp is mainly an amp built for practicing along with a drummer or practicing with a band, also its a digital amp with no tubes, it has no bona fide sound its pretty much artificial sounds. when your on stage you want tube amps because they have more flavor and more authentic loud noises fir the audience. also the pros and cons between this and a tube amp is that a digital amp like this cube 20gx is VERY mobile and isnt fragile in anyway, this thing can take a shit ton of damage and even then it will still play beautifully. the cons of it though it that its not authentic sound and its more sophisticated and complex sound that you dont here in your favorite rock songs, and the amp is simply made for practicing or jamming with your friends. a tube amp though is the standard of all amps, its like an old 1900's tv, all the old characteristics it has also applies with tube amps. its the bread and butter of music and its more loud on stage and more focused on 1 or 2 effects it has on the tube amp wich means it will have alot better tone. The one and only con about tube amps is how fragile they are. the tubes are made of a thin glass that is very very fragile, which means that if you carry it to practice and drop it by accident, its possible that some or all the tubes in the amp will shatter and then you will have to get the tubes replaced for a very annoying price. moral of the story:
bring digital amps to practice
bring tube amps to stage

+Max Belford great review there Max.....I think most people play for their own enjoyment than on stage and any knowledgeable guitarist knows that tube amps are the way to go but are expensive hence the big market now for small digital amps with multi features so they can get plenty of different sounds at home....I really don't know what you mean by "artificial" sound...if you hear anything it is a sound plain and simple....I have been playing guitar and have said for well over 25 years that good equipment will make you sound better but if you suck it doesn't matter what you are playing with......I think it's great that these companies are coming out with more choices on instruments and gear....peace brother....Mesa Boogie and all the other tube amps rock but A LOT of people don't need them in their bedrooms.....
I'm playing for about 35 years on stage and in the studio and I can understand what you are saying.....but I prefer solid state amps. I use an 70s Jet City 120w combo, an 80s Roland Jazz Chorus and an 90s Hughes and Kettner Attax 120. And I have all kind of sounds that are warm enough to be tubes but ain't.
Is that tone for real? Sounds great.

The line 6 sounds good but to synthetic. The cube actually sounds like it has tubes inside

what's the difference between gx and xl? i want to buy cube 20 but i'm stuck between these two!!
Gx is a fancy version of the normal cube 20. The 20xl is a bigger one which its better to se in gigs if you still whant to use the cube without buiyng and more expensive one.
Basicly
if you whant a fancier amp to pratice buy the gx
if you need to play in gigs or in a band buy the xl

I had a 15w Viper Pyevey which was very nice and sold it to buy the Fender Mustang 1 2W ... what a disappointment!
I bought one day in the afternoon, and I was trading it the next morning! Still could change in store for a Roland Cube 20GR because they had the Viper 20w :-))) Great!

I just bought one used and the distortion is pretty weak. I use pedals so it doesn't really matter but maybe I bought a lemon.
I've had this amp for a few years and found distortion pedals sound pretty shit through this amp

I have tried with low gain overdrive and distortion on the lead chanel and sounds fantastic, either single coils or humbuckers. Nice blues sounds!
the Blues sounds depends a lot of how you play too man. But to get a nice Blues sound on this amp you can use a litlle of overdrive with some reverb with a low gain+שלומי בן-דוד

sounds ok, but the distortion sounds fairly muddy for shredding on, not impressed (unfortunately).
With my Les Paul copy with the 498 Humbucker in both positions it doesn't sounds muddy. I even get some Strat sounds out of my cube with my Paula!
