Everyone is talking about Bernadette, while an amazing performer, no one is talking about Ruthie Henshall dancing on pointe. I'm jealous of her bone structure and her ability to dance like that. Just amazing Ruthie.
It's just occurred to me that 2 of the 3 of them have played The Witch in Into the Woods and now I'm wondering what Ruthie Henshall would do with the role.
If you saw her performance right before this of "Being Alive" you'd know that she was absolutely not drunk. It's amazing how easily she flips from one song style to the next...awesome and hysterical
Bernadette shines over the others, as always!!! She is SO fabulous and hilarious! Nice point for Ruthie, but she seemed to over-act the part. Bernadette STILL looks amazing, and she's 60 this year! I'm going to see her in concert on the 31st, and I actually got front row seats! I can't believe it!!!
After reading some of the previous comments, I'm astounded that some people are saying that Bernadette Peters does look "into it". Excuse me, she's acting!!!!! And brilliantly too, I might add, just like always. Besides, if she didn't want to do this she's far too much of a professional not to give it her all anyway. A fantastically funny performance from Bernadette, Ruthie and Julia; I loved Hey, Mr Producer!!
Exactly, and if I remember correctly Peters flew in from New York, went straight to the dress rehearsal, did the show and was on the first flight back the next morning. In her position, I'd have been in my hotel room puking my jet-lagged guts out. She didn't even get paid for appearing at what was, after all, a benefit for two very worthy causes: The Royal National Blind Institute and Acting for Others (then known as The Combined Theatrical Charities).
This is my Nth time watching and i just realized that dressy tessy is also the Fantine I admire! I also saw a clip from Chicago where she played, she is so into her roles that i must say what a brilliant actress she is!
i'm Ruthie Henshall and i'm just gonna go en pointe because i can! frickin love this woman!! wudnt be surprised if she cud do this!! she looks amazing! saw her tonight actually :)
great song, fabulous performances by all three ladies! i can't get over how brilliant ruthie henshall is. being a les mis fan, i love how michael, ruthie and lea are all in a row at the end. i cant help thinking ahh, its marius fantine and eponine. hahaha
You can pull all the stops out Till they call the cops out Grind your behind till you're bend But you gotta get a gimmick If you wanna get a hand You can sacrifice your sacharo Working in the back row Bump in a dump till you're dead Kid, you gotta get a gimmick If you wanna get ahead You can uh, you can uh You can uh, uh, uh That's how burlesque was born So I uh, and I uh And I uh, uh, uh But I do it with a horn Once I was a schleppa Now I'm Miss Mazeppa With my revolution in dance You gotta have a gimmick If you wanna have a chance She can uh, she can uh She can uh, uh, uh They'll never make her rich Me, I uh, and I uh And I uh, uh, uh But I do it with a switch I'm electrifying And I ain't even trying I never had to sweat to get paid 'Cause if you got a gimmick Gypsy girl, you've got it made All them uh and them uh And them uh, uh, uh Ain't gonna spell success Me, I uh, and I uh And I uh, uh, uh But I do it with finesse Dressy Tessie Tura Is so much more then demurer Than all them other ladies because You gotta get a gimmick If you wanna get applause Do something special Anything special Do something special Anything special You're more than just a mimic When you got a gimmick Take a look how different we are If you wanna make it Twinkle while you shake it If you wanna grind it Wait till you refined it If you wanna pump it Pump it with a trumpet Get yourself a gimmick And you too can be a star
Who are you talking about? This video features Ruthie Henshall, Bernadette Peters, Julia McKenzie and in the background are Lea Solonga, Milicent Martin and Judi Dench. In fact, no one with Victoria anywhere in their name performed at the entire concert.
Bernadette is so cute with the trumpet and all, and the voice when she started. I don't get why she's holding her hand over her abdomen though. I like this video!
well u should try to get a video of the production of mr producer...but i know that the girl after ruthie goes by the name victoria because for the production mr producer that we had worked on i had met bernadette and also that girl the one right after ruthie we did some blending and some other tricks for that particular production and when i met bernie she introduced me to that girl as victoria...thats about how i know her
It's not a matter of reading the credits; it's called common knowledge. and how many people do you know that work in the theatre and film industry that say "I work for Hollywood. So, go work on your "movies" and stop pretending to have information that you clearly don't.
look i dont know what u do for work and dont want to know...all i know is that i do work for the hollywood film industry...and dont care about what other people think about if i do or not...but i know my info about the people i meet and what alias they use for thier names on the street ok...this conversation is over.....
sorry but working for hollywood my info is correct..just because you read the credits from that concert doesnt mean they all go by thier real name i know victoria and bernadette as well..but im not going to argue that not me...there are some things i cannot reveal because i also have to keep my alias too...like i said i have met eye to eye and have talked with them and had dinner with them..and i have some more movies to work on see ya
Everyone is talking about Bernadette, while an amazing performer, no one is talking about Ruthie Henshall dancing on pointe. I'm jealous of her bone structure and her ability to dance like that. Just amazing Ruthie.
I think she is one of the most underrated performers out there. Always game for a laugh but wow she is just something special.
Dianne B. Dee She is great lol 😂
Yep, if you can't be funny be loud
Ruthie Henshall is a trained dancer.
She danced in Cats.
Oh my God. I think Julia McKenzie just stole my heart. Why is she not in everything? Seriously!!!
Ruthie Henshall completely steals the show!!! Fabulous voice, dancing, performing.
I love these women! Especially Bernadette! What's more impressive is that she did this immediately after absolutely nailing 'Being Alive'. AMAZING.
I love the way Bernadette makes it seem that her character could care less. Like when she shimmeys her arms are all limp. I love her.
It's just occurred to me that 2 of the 3 of them have played The Witch in Into the Woods and now I'm wondering what Ruthie Henshall would do with the role.
Whenever i re-watch my dvd at home "Hey, Mr. Producer", i always laugh whenever Bernadette says "If you want to bump it, BUMP it with a trumpet!"
If you saw her performance right before this of "Being Alive" you'd know that she was absolutely not drunk. It's amazing how easily she flips from one song style to the next...awesome and hysterical
I finally watched Gypsy after listening to this song for the first time. I have to catch up on the classic shows and films.
They're all amazing!!! I love 'em all!
Judi Dench just makes this at the end!
All that talent on one stage is unreal.
I love how Ruthie has a hard time not cracking up at Bernadette playing the trumpet...
Oh my, this is one of my favorites. They are all so wonderful, but Bernadette is just the queen. She's so naturally humorous. Also love Ruthie!!
After reading some of the previous comments, I'm astounded that some people are saying that Bernadette Peters does look "into it". Excuse me, she's acting!!!!! Best version of this song ever!!
Miss Marple is a-bumpin' and a-blinkin'!!!! Way to go, Julia McKenzie!!!
This was hilarious- I was surprised with Ruthie's non-ballad, jazzy voice!
Bernadette Peters with the trumpet- so freakin' random but hilarious!
I do love Ruthie in this but NOBODY shines like Bernadette I love that women!
Ruthie Henshall... She's one of my musical favorites. You can see her on the 10th Anniversary of Les Mis.
Adoro a perninha de Judy Dench no final!
"If you wanna bump it..bump it with a trumpet!"
ROTFL~!!!!!!!
lol its true! All their parts are great, but its all about Ruthie! she's great at everything and love her butterfly dress :D
great song, fabulous performances by all three ladies! i can't get over how brilliant ruthie henshall is.
being a les mis fan, i love how michael, ruthie and lea are all in a row at the end. i cant help thinking ahh, its marius fantine and eponine. hahaha
Bernadette Peters never ceases to make me smile. I first was introduced to her when I watched Animaniacs as a kid.
victoria and benadette both did a awesome job in this video!
Amazing seeing Julia Mackenzie in a broadway show
I love the voice of the gal with the cape/wings thingy.
That's Ruthie henshall
Wow... Ruthie can really do ballet! Very talented!
excellent :) They're incredible singers, in addition to all the rest.
Love it!! Love it!! LOVE IT!!!
I LOVE Ruthie!!!! She's the greatest!
You can pull all the stops out
Till they call the cops out
Grind your behind till you're bend
But you gotta get a gimmick
If you wanna get a hand
You can sacrifice your sacharo
Working in the back row
Bump in a dump till you're dead
Kid, you gotta get a gimmick
If you wanna get ahead
You can uh, you can uh
You can uh, uh, uh
That's how burlesque was born
So I uh, and I uh
And I uh, uh, uh
But I do it with a horn
Once I was a schleppa
Now I'm Miss Mazeppa
With my revolution in dance
You gotta have a gimmick
If you wanna have a chance
She can uh, she can uh
She can uh, uh, uh
They'll never make her rich
Me, I uh, and I uh
And I uh, uh, uh
But I do it with a switch
I'm electrifying
And I ain't even trying
I never had to sweat to get paid
'Cause if you got a gimmick
Gypsy girl, you've got it made
All them uh and them uh
And them uh, uh, uh
Ain't gonna spell success
Me, I uh, and I uh
And I uh, uh, uh
But I do it with finesse
Dressy Tessie Tura
Is so much more then demurer
Than all them other ladies because
You gotta get a gimmick
If you wanna get applause
Do something special
Anything special
Do something special
Anything special
You're more than just a mimic
When you got a gimmick
Take a look how different we are
If you wanna make it
Twinkle while you shake it
If you wanna grind it
Wait till you refined it
If you wanna pump it
Pump it with a trumpet
Get yourself a gimmick
And you too can be a star
I love Bernadette's "I don't give a shit" additude...
And I can't believe she's 64 already! I thought she was like 30 or something!
Homosuxual in this she was 50
Im in love with Ruthie!
Ruthie and that pointe work!
Best version of this song ever.
Who are you talking about? This video features Ruthie Henshall, Bernadette Peters, Julia McKenzie and in the background are Lea Solonga, Milicent Martin and Judi Dench. In fact, no one with Victoria anywhere in their name performed at the entire concert.
Bernadette Peters is one of the great leading ladies and tbf I'm not a Ruthie Henshall fan I found her too over the top on this occassion.
SO.GOOD.
Check out the show - Gypsy. Unless my memory fails me, she's just really acting the character.
Bernadette is so cute with the trumpet and all, and the voice when she started. I don't get why she's holding her hand over her abdomen though. I like this video!
this clip is funny, I love it
HAHAHAHA. That's fantastic!
God, I love her.
Ruthie...amazing
This makes me happy. :D
That's Ruthie Henshall, star of Les Miserables, Chicago etc.
Pretty sure it was 1998 in London
There is no one on that stage named Victoria. Sorry to disappoint.
well u should try to get a video of the production of mr producer...but i know that the girl after ruthie goes by the name victoria because for the production mr producer that we had worked on i had met bernadette and also that girl the one right after ruthie we did some blending and some other tricks for that particular production and when i met bernie she introduced me to that girl as victoria...thats about how i know her
ruthie is unbelivably good!!!
I agree, I just love the slack lumpiness of her character. But her voice still shines over the others. She's pure brilliance
@ccnobo LOL me too. And I agree with you on Bernadette Peters and Ruthie Henshall.
ruthie is amazing.
Why is this version different then the one on the CD? Did they record it in a studio?
ha ha
i love her
@saint973 Yes, and Ruthie Henshall should play Rose!
well i was working on that production as a camera man and i know bernie personally and yes there was victoria if u must know
Victoria?
Getting On Your Tippy Toes It Doesn't Hurt! When Your Trained In Pointe Like Ruthie And Me :D
These are very well known actresses. None of them goes by the name of Victoria. Please check your information.
I thought she did that in character, kind of relaxed and an I-don't-care-too-much attitude.
does anyone know what year this is from?
1998.
Who wrote this??
GO MISS MARPLE! lol
Who the heck is victoria?
Ruthie en pointe?? [swoons]
one more thing she likes to be called victoria but her real name is phillidra or something spelt like that
Probably to keep her posture proper and get the breath to her diaphragm (sp?) faster.
My dad has a crush on Bernadette, and I was watching this and he said "I have a problem with her outfit. It's still on"
xD
i hate men
😳
Jule Styne wrote the music and stephen sondheim wrote the lyrics.
I think that's just the character she is playing, sort of aloof.
victoria is the girl right after ruthie
ms peters doesn't look too into it at first.
Ruthie overdoing it as per...
the definitive version is from bernadette peter's revival of 'gypsy". miss electra makes you pee your pants. stopped the show.

i simply love all 3 of these actresses, but is it me or does bernadette seem a little disconnected like she doesn't really wanna do it.....
i think the opposite but i mean look at it i wouldn’t want to do it either
Talk about butcher a classic....
