I use chess engines, like Houdini in Chess King as help for training and analysis. It is possible to play against a strong engine, but it's like a runner trying to race against a Ferrari. It was interesting many years ago when computers were weak, but nowadays chess engines are too strong. Chess is before anything else a game to be played between two humans. It's a battle of minds, of ideas, of plans, of creativity. At least that's my opinion :-)
This DVD is a great idea for all Chess Champions to exhibit their games with their own annotations. I hope that other Chess Champions and GMs would follow this for the future generations to come. My 1 y/o son may never see Gary Kasparov play chess, so I'm hoping Gary will make DVD's of his most memorable games in the future. Thanks GM-AK for this wonderfull DVD! Your my daughters best player. Best of Luck!
Yes I came to Mexico in 2006 and I loved it! I played a 4 player match and won 2 out of my 3 matches, against Mexican GM Gilberto Hernandez (2551 ELO) and against GM Viktor Kortchnoi (2607 ELO) from Switzerland. I only lost one match against GM Sergei Karjakin of the Ukraine (ELO 2672), who eventually ended up winning the tournament, with 4 points. Viktor Kortchnoi and I shared the second-third spot, with 3 points each. Just google the words Kosteniuk Mexico 2006 for photos and news.
@dragonheadofthewest This game is from the official FIDE World Blitz Chess Championship 2009. It was played at the official FIDE blitz time control of 3 minutes per player + (plus) 2 seconds per move, which means that games last on average from 7 to 12 minutes. Blitz is fun to watch, and among Grandmasters can be of very high quality. Besides, games of 10 minutes on average are perfect to watch on RUclips.
@Immortalprodigy1 Simply we "adjust" our pieces so they are nicely in the center of their squares. We will play with those pieces during the game, so it's a way to "wish them good luck" for the battle ahead.
Hi! In chess one can check as many times as one wants. One side can claim a draw only after the same exact position occurs 3 times, with the same player to move. That is not the case in this game, there was only one position that happened twice, with the white King on f6 and the black Knight on f8.
@codonauta I have lots of chess sites, including chessblog dotcom (and of course other dotcoms such as kosteniuk, chessqueen, chesspics, chesskillertips, chessmovies, tubechess, etc.) . Yes, slash is part of the link. Sorry, but RUclips does not allow to post links in comments so I have to do it in a "strange" way. Or else just Google the words "Kosteniuk Wall Street chessblog" (without quotes) and you get it.
@DionMarinos In the case of chess it is not ridiculous to have a women's section also. See my blog post on chessblog dated October 17, 2009 for a long talk on this issue and many comments.
@Ronbo710 Glad you like my videos! Yes women can often beat men at chess, but you should keep in mind chess is a sport. A mental sport for sure, but still a sport. To answer your question, just google the two words chessblog ridiculous and you will see my post about that very topic.
@ChessQueen I got the article now, doing the search in google, as you said! By the way, excellent article (or post). I will show it in some chess spaces I use to participate. Great arguments, really. I know the problems about links in RUclips comments. We have to do some procedures to overcome these obstacles, as writing "dotcom", or to use **between the words. Thanks for the help.
Gracias Alexandra. Ya vi las fotos, están muy lindas. En américa latina tienes muchos fans. Ojalá pudieras venir más veces a México. Eres lo máximo. Saludos.
@ chess queen, were you sure that you were winning at all moments when you stopped the video, i am asking about tournament time when what was your feeling and thinking going on in your head?
@ChessQueen Sorry if I am disturbing you again, but I am not getting the link you wrote above. Isn´t your blog at chessqueendotcom? You wrote chessblogdotcom. And I didn't understand that word "slash" you wrote above. Is it part of the link?
Haaa! You found a beautiful finish in a few seconds left on a clock! Really nice game! But Judit's body talk is priceless!! Heh, she can not just shoo, shoo you Alexandra the Queen! :)
@heltok Sure the original full video for this game is 20 minutes, I had to shorten it as RUclips allows only up to 10 minutes. There are 8 full games with separate blitz chess tips on my "Chess Blitz Fever" DVD.
@onlinechesstutor It's very difficult to remember chess openings, and I don't recommend spending too much time doing it, it will only cause frustration when inevitably you will forget a line you tried to memorize! Better to remember plans and strategies in the openings you like to play. Watch games of your favorite champions in the openings you play and note their plans, that will be 100 times more useful than memorizing chess opening moves blindly.
@codonauta the link is chessblogdotcom slash 2009/10/abolish-womens-itles-ridiculous dothtml (sorry I have to write the link this way or else RUclips won't let me post it)
Thanks for answering Alexandra. I've seen the pictures are very nice, you're with Sergey Karjakin and Anatoly Karpov. 3 chess geniuses. You have many fans in Mexico and Latin America in general. I wish you to come again. Thank you very much. You are the best. Greetings from Mexico.
@OK1m Alexanda are you going to play Hou Yifan again in the near future. If Anand were to play Hou a 14 game match who would win and why? If you become women's champion in 2012 would you ever Challenge Anand to more games. I don't understand why women can not compete with the men for the championship.
Thanks for the answer, It's nice to meet a humble person like you, I watched the video when you came to my Country COLOMBIA with Tarrito Rojo JGB. Best wishes beautiful Chessqueen!!!!! let me send you a kiss and a huge hug from Colombia.
You guys are so cool... both smiling when you play Nf4. You've been playing exquisitely! We hope you'll overtake GM Polgar as the highest rated female GM soon. :-) Nice job to Diego on the videos! Very polished (and persuasive for buying the DVD). ;-)
@OK1m I've played chess since I was 5, earned all the titles possible, became 12th women's world chess champion. Of course chess is my profession! I love chess! :-)
Priceless reaction from Polgar grabs the black queen for promotion and after moving the knight "OPPS" Lol I love how u slowed it down int he end for the last movies
I made a long post answering that question on my chess blog (put those words together and add dotcom) on October 17, 2009. Men are different from women. In many ways.
@onlinechesstutor Sure it's very difficult to be a professional chess player, it requires constant training and a constant spirit of competition. It's fun though!
I am never nervous when I play chess. I am only sometimes nervous before a game, but never during the game. And in a blitz game, there is no time to be nervous!
You are really beautiful and smart indeed, a personal question, Have you ever played against a computer program, like Chessmaster XI or something like that?
Alexandra! Would you come to Poland for some tournament ? ;) I'm your big fan and this endgame (Nd4!) is my favourite. I invite you for coffee when you be in Poland :) Greetings!
Nice win! Judit Polgar is a freaking beast; for the longest time she was miles ahead of all her female colleagues. Just to put it in perspective, she is rarely even considered in the women's lists, because her rating is good enough to be in the top 50 of the males list. I see that you're getting up there yourself.
Hallo Alexandra , hope you are in good health and wish you the best for your future. In your analysis of the Blitz-game against Judit in 2009 you forget to explain move 70 ! - the only move in the game in which BOTH players made a blunder - of you (70.Kf6? is wrong and only remis, correct is 70.Nd6! and a win for you) AND of Judit (70. ...e4? is wrong and loosing, correct is Kf3! and remis for Judit) kindly regards from Germany Lutz Neweklowsky
@goldewl Hi! That's not a question, it's a fact. I wrote of that in a long post on my chess blog in response to a reporter's article in the Wall Street Journal. You can easily find the my post and read the 91 comments by Googling the following words: Kosteniuk Wall Street Journal ridiculous . Best wishes!
Alexandra...eres verdaderamente la Reina del Ajedrez... algo así como la encarnación de la diosa Caissa ! Me gusta tu estilo Alexandra ... you are truly the Queen of Chess ... something like the incarnation of the goddess Caissa! I like your style
@rebelsouljaz Do you call playing a good move being lucky? ;-) Maybe I was lucky I saw it in a fraction of a second? Or maybe it was because I trained a lot those kinds of endgames? Not much luck in chess, I must say. If someone is stronger than you, chances are he or she will beat you.
It seems that after a game is finished the contestants just shake hands then get up and leave, don't players ever just have a chat, or just congratulate each other on winning a previous tournament or game.
I must say Alexandra, most Chess players are pretty stuck up. You on the other hand are a marvelous individual and people ought to learn alot from you in terms of Chess and character. I wish you luck in further improving yourself and may you one day claim Judit's position. :)
@nighterjay Would you like to know what's in my handbag or in the handbag of any woman? A wallet, keys, chocolates, tissues, there are tons of things women usually carry in their handbags.
@fullrad I agree it's brilliant. It's like she's saying "look what you did!!!". A lot of males would be more likely to want to smack their opponent :P (unless they won all their other games). :)) I think she moves and reacts almost like a little girl at the end, playing her favourite game. :))

Wow! Stupendous game! Great channel, too!
I love when Judith smiles when she saw it...I would have flipped the board over.

Nice videos! Makes me want to start playing again! I stopped playing Chess 15 years ago...

You are right, it's Judit and not Judith. I corrected the RUclips video title.
@jack6814 In chess you're never sure of winning until your opponent resigns.
thank you Alexandra !!!your lecture was very useful to me

I love 7:05! Judit smiles in gracious defeat as she realizes that she has overlooked Kosteniuk's in-between knight move...
My favorite part: 7:05 !
Judit is like "Duh! How did I miss that?" I love her smile, taking the loss with great sportsmanship!
@DionMarinos In the case of chess it is not ridiculous to have a women's section also. See my blog post on chessblog dated October 17, 2009 for a long talk on this issue and many comments.
@Zakdayak Thanks! Yes my "home preparation" involved also going to the hairdresser's salon :-)
@ChessQueen I am not getting to open your posts of your chessblog before june 2010. How can I get that one of October 17, 2009? Thanks.
Not exactly. The Taimanov Variation can be reached through 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 e6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 Nc6 or 1.e4 c5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 cxd4 4.Nxd4 e6
Both women are a genuine inspiration to me. Thanks to Alexandra for sharing this game with us.

@OK1m Kosteniuk, what brings you to be a chess player and Grandmaster? Is it your goal on living?

Loved it!

Alexandra, I would like to ask you a question. Based on the ranking. Out of 100 best chess players of all time there is only ONE female?
@ChessQueen is this real GM Kosteniuk who replied me? I'll be very happy if that so :'). I'm your big fan from Indonesia. :D
very good video! thanks for sharing! :)
great moves when time is running out! well played
You are really beautiful and smart indeed, a personal question, Have you ever played against a computer program, like Chessmaster XI or something like that?
haha, this was amazing, beautiful!

Tengo 16 años Ojala llegue a ser tan grande como tu! Ojala Dios lo quiera asi (: Felicidades
Wow what a sweet ending . But the way you kept talking I thought you were going to lose . Whew , that was close .
Great finish!!
Hallo Alexandra ,
hope you are in good health and wish you the best for your future. Lutz Neweklowsky
Queen, I noticed you were at the desk before your opponent. You are most punctual. That's a good, respectable habit.
Actually, is this not the Taimanov variation?
Anyway, that's not important. Wonderful ending, and even more wonderful end-game handshake!
AMAZING level of thinking
You got her!!! Nice game!
good job Alexandra in the ending that g4! in blitz is hard to find
btw that poster is really funny :)

Amazing Alexandra
excuse me my queen is it legal to put the king in check more than three time is not this perputal checking

TÚ HAS VENIDO ALGUNA VEZ A MEXICO?
VENDRÁS ALGUNA VEZ?
Alexandra...eres verdaderamente la Reina del Ajedrez...

Or maybe it was because I trained a lot those kinds of endgames?
Not much luck in chess, I must say. If someone is stronger than you, chances are he or she will beat you.
its Judit not Judith
Not all great chess players are ugly. You give hope.
It seems that after a game is finished the contestants just shake hands then get up and leave, don't players ever just have a chat, or just congratulate each other on winning a previous tournament or game.
@Fupper16 - I doubt any professional in any game and while passionate about what they do find ANY joy in defeat.
nice smile by Judith @ 7:05
I must say Alexandra, most Chess players are pretty stuck up. You on the other hand are a marvelous individual and people ought to learn alot from you in terms of Chess and character. I wish you luck in further improving yourself and may you one day claim Judit's position. :)
@ulujm Judith lost this game and it's very instructive. In all my games somebody wins and somebody loses.
Another close call.
Judith said "damn" at 7:13 she knew she lost lol
alexandra i really like your chess but why dont you show games that you lost in your programme??
2:05 a lot of moves are missing
Why do all professional chess players fix their pieces before the match starts?
@dragonheadofthewest Grandmasters have plenty of time to be creative in blitz. Just look at any of the games! Chess blitz is fun too! :-)
@nighterjay Would you like to know what's in my handbag or in the handbag of any woman? A wallet, keys, chocolates, tissues, there are tons of things women usually carry in their handbags.

@carlinhosff Yes my nickname in RUclips and Facebook and Twitter is "chessqueen". I'm the current women's world chess champion. Nice to meet you!
te amo kosteniuk
Pretty cool.
Many men must be passionate about you.
@OK1m Yes I am married, since 2002.
Your majesty, why are men and women separated in chess?
@ChessQueen "If someone is stronger than you, chances are he or she will beat you."
hence why i say you got lucky lol
heh i saw the f3 via night tour to win the pawn at g5 instantly :D
I would love to hear your commentary in Russian.
What a bullshitting end for Judith...that's what I call getting (pawn)ed.
All I have to say regarding you Alexandra is...WOW!!! =D
Damn, you are SMART, Alexandra! =D Luv Ya! =D
cool vid! 5 stars
you got real real lucky there lol!
You're voice sound so lovely funny xD
5n2/8/5K1P/4pN2/8/8/5k2/8 b - -
after 70. Kf6 black should play 70... Kf3 = draw (endgame database)
who are you girl? the chess queen???
hahaha!
Alexandra, may i tell you something? You're the most beautiful woman chess player on the Earth. Are you married, @ChessQueen?
