    While only a couple years old, my Taco went from Southern Arizona to Central Texas and removing the side decals was a real SOB. The adhesive removed pretty easily with Goo-gone (Krud cutter also works pretty well), but a light haze remained along with what I can only describe as a ghost of the design from the sticker. It took some elbow grease, but I was able to get everything completely clean using a claybar, spray bottle (water) and a couple of hours.

    3M makes an adhesive/decal eraser that chucks into your drill. Works great after you pop off the badges with the fishing line. I also used it on my TRD offroad decals. Got it at Advance Auto.

    Good job. I debadged mine within a week of ownership which makes it easier to remove. Now I'm thinking about custom beside stickers.

      Thanks Rob! I removed all of my decals fairly quickly as well (with the exception of those side "Tacoma" ones). What kind of custom stickers are you thinking about getting?

    You make it look so easy, hah. I've been thinking about either fully debadging mine, or doing black plasti dip. Mine is pyrite mica, so I'm not sure how that would look.

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  7 лет назад +1

      Lol it IS easy! Just remember to go slow and apply steady pressure with the fishing line while sawing back and forth. I bet having black badges would look great on the pyrite mica.

      Tacomaholic First time I debadged a car, it was my '97 A4 and boy was it a mess. So much ghosting I had to put them back on again, haha. I'll probably plasti dip them black and eventually rip them off.

    You mentioned you had painted the original badge and I'd like to know how you masked it properly? I bought black to replace my chrome but painting would be a lot easier ;)

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 лет назад

      Hey Roger! I used plasti-dip to do my badges black. All you do is clean the badges, tape around them, then add 5-9 light coats of the product. Once it dries you can peel away the over spray since it's a rubber spray and not paint. Here's a link to the product: amzn.to/2BNPAvp

    My 215 taco is super white so I'm thinking about taking whatever Chrome on it off and painting it black period and putting it back on. Maybe tinting the front and rear lights.

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 лет назад +1

      I'm all for getting rid of that chrome! 😀 Not sure why automakers are still slapping chrome on vehicles since most people seem to prefer other options. Have you just thought of plasti-dipping the badges? It would be alot easier than removing and re-installing the badges.

    • @michaelking2965
      @michaelking2965 6 лет назад +1

      Tacomaholic well money is kind of tight right now. And I'm not sure how to Plasti Dip anything I'm sure there videos out there I can watch but I'm really good with a rattle can LOL the other thing I need to change on that is the rear bumper it has a chrome rear bumper and you know what it drives me nuts because it kind of kicks in my OCD because the front has no chrome bumper. LOL it's body color super white. LOL

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 лет назад +1

      Plasti-dipping is probably even easier than good ol' rattle can. I need to get a video out for it.

    I just pried mine with a screw driver and paint scraper. When the badge gets stubborn just bang the end of the screw driver or paint scraper with a big hammer. Little Bondo and touch-up paint looking good.

      Kidding. No paint scraper near my truck. Anyway, my son gave me two really nice metal badges, not real big, one for each side, they just say "TRD. Put 'em on front quarter panels just at the front door/panel joint. They look good. I also put eight "Gripper" tie-downs three on each side of the bed and two on tail-gate, plus when I last dropped the skid plates to change the oil I cleaned to plates real, real good and painted them bright red. My truck's got a great look, unique.

    It's easier to remove badges with a heat gun. it softens the glue you do have to be careful not to overheat and damage paint. that goo gone is carp as far as I'm concerned anyway.

    My truck was rear ended and it messed the driver side bed up so when they fixed it they took off the TRD and I bought different TRD stickers. How do I get the passenger stock TRD sticker off?

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  5 лет назад

      You should be able to peel the decal off or use a heat gun/hair dryer if it's being stubborn.

  • @MRGOLD99.999
    @MRGOLD99.999 5 лет назад

    If u heated it would of came off in one go

  • @jeffmay7263
    @jeffmay7263 6 лет назад

    Why not just use a heat gun they pull right off with heat. Also, lighter fluid works best to remove the sticky tape glue from the paint..

    • @Tacomaholic
      @Tacomaholic  6 лет назад +2

      Those certainly work but I wanted to show a way to do it that less experienced people would probably feel comfortable with. I'd hate to see people melting paint with a heat gun.

    Goo Gone is complete worthless trash. Would cut your time in half if you used brake parts cleaner or engine staring fluid on a rag. And No you wouldn't damage your clear coat either. Been using it for years.
