Skunk success!! Keep it up mate, I know these videos aren’t modern viral, but they mean so much to a lot of us. The simplicity and peace found in any of your videos is a welcome virtue.
Yes, it is sad that there is no more good demand for fur because of the mad "animal rights" activists. Fur is the best clothing material. Do you still trap anything, mate?
@@rickwhitson2804 That´s a shame. But I appreciate that you used to do that. Are you still having any products of your trapping? Like a fur hat, skins as wall hangers...?
Nice catch! I've tanned quite a few skunks. I perfer to degrease with a degreaser AND dish soap for my rehydration and again add a little degreaser to my pickle. These little guys are just super greasy! Great start to the season!
Nice job and fun trap site to build looks like. I like to use a shot of bbq sauce on the cat food or other bait. Pungent smells carries and lasts. Agree about the bucket/cover to help with weather and bird proofing. Great job and thanks for the content.
My brother found a skunk den and took 19 skunks at that location in three weeks. Was near a large lake with farmland, so there were a lot of skunks available. That is a good looking skunk that you got.
Great video as usual. My sister in law in Show Low Az feeds all the feral cats in the neighborhood. Every night she gets a couple skunks and a family of raccoons come up to her house.
Success! You never know right. Brave man dealing with the possibility of scent gland leakage...😮 Nice work on the skinning, looks like a quality pelt. Good luck moving forward with trapping and hunting. Surprised no deer yet, that's why they call it hunting and not getting... Stay safe, see ya next time.
Thanks for watching! The pelt is quite nice. Skunk fur has always been very appealing to me. I'll be getting busy with the deer hunting soon. My freezer is completely empty so I'll be trying my best to fill both tags. Take care!
FYI, I had a skunk who was crazy for almond slices of all things. It kept flipping rat traps baited with them and eating the bait, until it finally wedged itself into a tiny live trap intended for rats to get after the slices that were stuck to the trigger with peanut butter. IDK. Maybe it was just that one crazy skunk...but maybe not.
When trying to attract critters, we used a mix of shelled field corn and oily sunflower seeds. Everything in the woods (1) eats those seeds, or (2) eats the critters that eat corn and sunflower seed. Courtesy Half Vast Flying
Ya will be surprised once ya find the fight bait lure combination on hiw many skunks you catch Sir. The value might not be in the fur but there essence is usually wher the money is also. Good luck catch 'em all
My dad was half Comanche indian and half white. He was raised on an indian reservation in Oklahoma, the youngest of 13 children. One of his pastimes as a boy: catching and skinning skunks. Each one sold for a whopping five cents. 1932😮
Nice catch, Kusk! Shame to part with those sardines, but at least you caught a quality skunk. He ought to tan up nicely. You gonna post any deer hunting footage this year? Good luck putting meat in the freezer!
I'll trade a tin of sardines for a skunk any day haha. The deer hunting videos will be coming soon. I have two tags and an empty freezer. Thanks for watching!
Sadly they aren't worth much. Looking at the results from a recent fur auction they averaged about $30. It's a shame too because the fur is very beautiful.
I owned a skunk as a pet . He was smart and huge! I walked him on a leash like a dog. Like a dummie i loaned him out to a friend. He took him and his girl friend out to the drive in movies. She thought she wpuld be cute and sprayed him with perfume... He didnt like that so he sprayed her and destroyed the inside of his caddilac and her. Just bought the car. Worked and saved for two years for a down payment and got a loan. He killed him with a stick and dropped him off in my yard and took off. I heard what happened . His insurance covered it . Still miss him. The guy i got him from said he was surgically descented . Guess it grows back.
Trapping skunks is operating at the bottom of the barrel. (1) a nasty critter to associate with. (2) market for skunk pelts is probably not going to start an economic landslide. (3) they make one heck of a powerful repellent for wives! Why don’t you consider trapping something friendly - like, say, rock pythons? Or world champion snipers? A jaguar? Etc. Oh well, sigh. I wish you good luck. You’re going to need it. Courtesy of Half Vast Flying
There is nothing quite like that skunk smell, hard to explain but it reminds me of fuel. Very hard to get it off if you're lucky enough to get spayed lol. 🫣
what an extraordinary and adventures life you live ? I enjoy watching the channel . take care

Thanks! I appreciate the kind words. I enjoy making these videos and I'm glad others enjoy them as well. Take care!
great to see how happy you are to catch a skunk!
Trapping is how I bought my school Clothing back in the seventies. My times have changed. Lol
Yup, times are certainly different now. Trapping is no longer a job, these days it's a hobby. Still plenty fun though! Thanks for tuning in.

@lukasbejcek8841 no sir I haven't trapped in many years

Wow!! Thats really cool, the skunk is looking just beautiful! I'd be quite interested in the skinning process aswell. Thanks for the video
That’s a real nice catch. Beautiful markings.
Right on nice skunk. That would make a nice hat 👍
I love these videos!!
Old Rancid Crabtree would be proud.

Always great catching exactly what you were trying for!

thanks for the video
Thank you for watching!
So glad to see trapping videos! I love them so much. Watching them is such a great way to learn and relax.
Beautiful pelt.
Great content! Good job!
I'd be interested to see how you skin that out so perfectly!
Perhaps I'll film skinning some critters in the future. I just know the youtube guidelines are a little iffy about showing that sort of content.
Nice videos; try adding a couple/lots of trail cams? They're great and makes work a whole lot easier. Cheers 👍
Congrats!
I don’t think I know anyone who had ever trapped skunks. Very interesting.
I dit in the 80th Lake Winnipeg area in canada.
See you finally got your Dad on camera. Sneaky! ;-)
In the background? That's actually my wife haha.
The pot roast looked delicious 🤤

Thats cool
Use buketts to pot the
Traps in and bait in the bottom
Nice one, chuffed to bits for ya 😊
Cat foods the go then eh ?
Seems to be! Worked for me when i was a kid and it's working for me now haha.
Did you go back in time for this video? I saw the incomplete wood shed in the background. Great content.
Awesome video man. Where are you located?
My dad was half Comanche indian and half white. He was raised on an indian reservation in Oklahoma, the youngest of 13 children. One of his pastimes as a boy: catching and skinning skunks. Each one sold for a whopping five cents. 1932😮
Use eggs for bait they love em.
I have had pretty good luck trapping skunks with a good amount of blue cheese dressing poured in a styrofoam cup in the back of a live trap.
Woopooo weeee

@@KuskWild Best of luck to you!
Can stretch em on a fox drying board.
Think a muskrat board would suffice?
@@KuskWild muskrat board is to short and often times shaped wrong Sir. Better to use a small raccoon or medium fox boards.
Hey. Where did the wood shed roof go!?
This video took place over the past couple weeks. While the traps were set I was busy building the roof. Good eye to notice!
Does a skunk pelt have much value or is it just better to keep fur for personal use?
Sadly they aren't worth much. Looking at the results from a recent fur auction they averaged about $30. It's a shame too because the fur is very beautiful.
@@KuskWild interesting, thanks for getting back. Ya the fur looks great on the one you caught.
What do you use the fur to?
It can be sold but skunks aren't worth much these days. I will tan this one and use it for an upcoming project. Take care!

A pet skunk would be very cool! Sorry to hear about yours.
Where is this?
Alaska?
Saskatchewan?
fart squirrels
Is that the first skunk you ever skinned
First in many years. Haven't trapped a skunk since I was a kid.
I was excited to see the skinning process, then it didnt happen,
Sorry! The youtube guidelines aren't too fond of showing that stuff. Perhaps I'll film a skinning video in the future.
@@KuskWild ive seen vids on here of ppl skinning deer. Its educational so YT can deal with it lol
