The more you increase the tension of a string of a tennis racquet:
the more control you have (you send the ball less far),
the more the power is reduced (interesting for powerful players, who want to limit faults in length),
the more the lifespan of the string is reduced,
the more the comfort is reduced,
the more access to topsin is reduced.
The more the tension of a string is reduced:
    the more control is reduced,
the more the power is increased (interesting for less powerful players, or players who want,
the more the lifespan of the string is increased,
the more we increase the comfort, which is interesting for the prevention of injuries,
the more access to topsin is increased (the strings will move more easily).
And more to know in this video and the article.

I have about 4 years of string tension / racquet “testing data” so I figured I’d share here. My kid’s been using poly since age 11 (not recommended) in a 100 size racquet at 305 grams average. Now she’s 15 and her technique has developed to where we want it (ATP style FH) with extended elbow at contact. For some reasons about a year ago we switched her tension from the usual 50M-48X to 48M - 52X (!) This was based on some “genius” recommendation….. 😊
Shortly after, she started complaining about “framing the balls” almost 70% of the time. So, being a good dad, I immediately blamed it on her technique lol! 😂
But then the issue wouldn’t go away so weve decided to take Super Slow Motion video of her strokes - from close distance and from behind my kid. Here’s what we found: out of 20-30 hits, 99% of the contact point were dead center, spot on! However, based on her technique (the notorious “windshield wiper”) we noticed the ball making contact on the string bed and just stay there while the racquet would roll up on the ball striking it with the frame. 😮. Concluding that, there was ZERO ball pocketing on the string bed…!
So we switched racquet brands (wasn’t needed) and we went back to her old and tried tension setup but about 8lbs lower. So her current configuration is: Babolat Pure Strike 97 (2024) with various poly strung at 45M 41X (I would go about 1-2lbs higher in a 100 size frame) and the results are amazing! Great pocketing, great spin and no more “frames”. As a bonus and probably the most important part, no more wrist discomfort.
Thanks for the upload by the way, I found it useful!

Thank you for this video. About six months ago, I switched from natural gut at 53lbs to poly at 42lbs (also changed racquets at the same time). I've found it to be an easy transition with increased spin and no elbow pain with the switch to poly. I've had elbow pain in the past which is what originally led to my switch to natural gut.

Totally i agree although new player i like the pocketing effect and the normal effort on swings on low tensions im 20/21 now on 65-69 stiff rackets on gravity mp 23kg

Jean Pierre, another great video…. much appreciated! I play with the same strings and tensions… it is a purely arbitrary decision…. I change racquets a lot ( In trying to stop this), so I want to keep something constant… also a bit fearful of using a pure poly for fear of elbow issues. So i decided to use VS gut 16 mains at 55; rpm blast 17 crosses at 52… I use this for my 100 and 98 sq in rackets… I am going to try the VCore 95 ( I think I will lower to 51, 48)… I am curious about using a pure poly at lower tensions, it may be beneficial for my game. Ciao, John How do I get to your English newsletter????

Thank you ! I think you can try full poly with tension as low as possible. Change if the slightest pain occurs. Currently I don't have an english newsletter but I'll think about it. You can subscribe to the channel to be notified when I publish some content on YT.

Hi. How do you see a relation between a tension and a stiffness of a racquet? For instance I play 320 g Vcore Pro 97, 18/20 - very soft / flex frame, Yonex Poly Tour Pro.

There are so many personal feelings in tennis that I'd give no rule for this relation. But if you combine soft frame and high tension, you'll decrease power even more. Rigid frame+low tension should give more power.

Fantastic! Question: I used Luxilon Alu Power 1.25 at 21/20 in my Head i.prestige mid (89.5 and 330 grams unstrung) and it’s good…now I got the Head 2021 Prestige Tour (95 inch) and want to protect my arm. Is 20-18 Alu power going to work? Is it ok to do 2 kilos less in crosses? I don’t need power but control and safe on my arm, Merci! You can see me hitting on my RUclips channel as I was a bollettieri protégé long ago

Don't know for alu power, a bit hard for the arm. Maybe Luxilon Element for more comfort. I've watched you playing, simple swings rather flat and efficient 😀 Good job

What about on full poly, stringing the cross 2lbs or 1kg lower? Like having 50/48lb tension. Do you notice any difference to having lower tension in cross string of full poly?

Glad to see you like the content. For your string, it's really personal. I've put many different things and always liked ; Wilson revolve, Head Sonic pro, Babolat XCel, Luxilon Element. Tension is essential ; above 23 I don't like, 21-22 it's fine.

Ok, very nice for the comfort and the easy power. Indeed it may require a bit topspin increase to secure the shots.

What is you experience with Gravity Tour vs Ezone. I used to play the tour, still have two, but found it a bit hard to play when having to manouver quickly. Thought about Ezone at some point.

@@octaviannitra1845 Honestly I was looking for more power when I got the EZone and I though I will get that, along with feel and control and manouverbility with the EZone. Now....EZone is great racket, but I found that compared to GTour feels like children toy. It manouvers just a bit easier than GTour, but on the other hand that bit of easier manouver comes with way less control than GTour, so you get nothing. Also, GTour sends the ball with the same power no matter where you hit the ball on the string bed, while with the EZone you get good power only if you hit the sweet spot, other than that it is all different. So you will miss that linear - predictable power from GTour. Also, if you swing the EZone with the same swing that GTour lets you, you wouldn't get one ball inside the lines with the EZone. Also I found out that GTour sends way more heavy balls to your opponent. The spin is much better with the EZone but the flat shots are way better with the GTour. While serving I found that both rackets feel the same above your head. So EZone does not feel that easy during serving. But if you are on the run, yes EZone is easier to manouver. EZone will not let you get away if you do not apply proper technic, so it is the same like GTour. Also, I needed to put leather grip on the EZone to increase the weight and to make it more head light. EZone is 300 grams unstrung, but in stock form, during swings, it feels like its 320 grams unstrung. Also it is way less stable than GTour. With the leather grip it is ok, but now, strung, it weights more than the GTour. So generally EZone is easier to play than GTour. I personally use the EZone if I am out of shape or if for some reason GTour gives me hard time on the courts 😉.
And to have the whole picture....my EZone 100 is 2022 model and the weight is exactly 300 grams unstrung and my GTour is 2021 version and it is exactly 303 grams unstrung. I use only Technifibre Razor Code 1.25mm on both rackets. I usually strung GTour on 18 kg and I strung EZone on 20 kg.

@@stojanchoarnaudoski2340 thanks you for taking the time to reply! Just as a fyi, since i wanted a bit more power, a bit more spin and hoped for better maneuverability I got the head extreme tour (2021) at a very good deal. And it does deliver on almost all my expectation and I feel that it improved my game, but i suspect that it is way of spec because it is very head heavy which it shouldn't. Added 10 grams in the handle to bring the balance more to spec and it is still head heavier compared with a ezone tour. Great on serve, forehand, backhand. Tons of spin, but what i lack is again maneuverability probably due to head heaviness and find the sweet spot a bit small. Find it very unforgiving if hit off center compared to the GTour.
      Thank You!
