      I was like how can it focus a manual lens? Pretty simple actually. It mostly just comes down to the tech inside the camera that can accurately tell it where to move. Genius.

    Manny, the launch of this photo was the official launch of my photography career. I found my niche using this adapter with very cheap and sharp vintage lenses like the Minolta 50mm 1.4 and the Sears Auto 58 mm 1.4. The character of these lenses is like nothing anyone has ever seen with a modern lens. I even started a side hustle selling vintage cameras.

    Little story, my son went to a local flea market and found a bunch of vintage lenses so he paid 60.00 hot 5 lenses bit in that bunch of lenses was a Minolta 58mm 1.2 lens now the lens didn't work, 2 weeks ago I was in Miami for my daughter's wedding and I dropped it off to be repaired by a local shop so I'm just waiting on this beauty to come home, so your video about this adapter was just in time, going to see if they make one for Minolta, using the a6500. Love your vids always helpful

    very few people know about this. What an absolute shock.....I think this has some value cos it does take a bit of effort to focus manually. Yes the adapter is not cheap, but some modern lenses especially the ones with wide apertures, are so expensive, if one is a hobbyist wishing to make things easier, it is an interesting option, if you are a bit serious with your hobby.
    The question though is on the vintage lens, where do you set the manual focus - to use this adapter - near end or far end ? or somewhere in the middle, or it does not matter.
    All in all, this is a definitely intelligent approach. Glad I saw this

    Damn, that is sweet. I have been using minolta vintage lenses with my panasonic G3 4:3 mirrorless camera, and besides the manual focus it is awesome. I can't identify just what the difference is, softer and more sharp, with more background blur.
    You will get used to the not-so-sharp images, they are still beautiful.
    I make RUclips videos so having something like this that I don't have to focus is priceless.... thanks!

    I used the TechArt Pro adapter which is VERY similar to this adapter, so few things to note:
    - the adapter will drain your battery FAST, even when your camera is turned off. I tested this a few times by leaving my A7II off with a fresh battery, and after a few hours, the battery was at 60%. I bought 8 batteries for my A7II because of this. Note: I no longer have the TechArt adapter.
    - with rangefinder lenses, like Leica and Voigtlander M-mount lenses, the edges will be soft, but that's mostly because of the sensor's thickness. Regardless, if you want to use legendary glass like a Summicron, the adapter will focus fast, but only the center will be 100% sharp, and the corners will suffer from softness.
    - with this adapter and other non-native E-mount lenses, you get 3-axis sensor stabilization, not 5 axis.
    - this works best with cameras with phase detection auto focus, so the a6300, a6500, a7II, etc.
    - you can focus any lens, as long as you have the proper adapter
    That's all. I recommend it only if you already have a collection of manual lenses.

    • @CvitanGrguricin
      @CvitanGrguricin 7 лет назад +11

      - Battery drain: You could just taken the battery out, than back in when you are done with shooting. No more drain, and no need for 8 batteries. It's annoying a bit, but it works.
      - Rangefinder lenses: This has nothing to do with Tehcart Pro, or Fotodiox Pronto, its the same thing with dumb adapters. You could get an improvement in this area if you see phillipreeve.net , he uses filter in the front to improve the images a lot.
      - "You can focus any lens": You can use this on majority of old lenses, but not on all of them. Lenses that focus with internal "floating elements" are bad in this regard, meaning the quality will degrade a lot, or not be able to focus at all. But this is a very small number of old lenses, and it's usually zooms that suffer. The prime lenses are almost all ok.

    For $249, I'll manual focus 😂😂😂

    • @yashwinning
      @yashwinning 5 лет назад +61

      But it's an insanely good deal though, just think about it. With that $250 piece of magic you can transform ANY manual lens into an AF lens, meaning you could realistically only have manual lenses in your kit and not have to buy any Sony AF lenses. So instead of spending $500 to get the Sony 85mm f1.8, you can now just hunt for a manual 85mm f1.8 lens that's like around $100 and bam, you now have an AF 85mm f1.8 lens for $350. Get where I'm going with this?

    • @Project_2501
      @Project_2501 4 года назад +9

      $249 is actually a good price of that thing in my opinion! Having the option to autofocus vintage lenses in professional shootings is priceless! I shot a lot manual lenses in the past and I made the experience that even with focus peaking I miss focus SLIGHTLY in almost 40% of all shots and considering them being pro shootings that is just not acceptable - a slight bit off is still off. This adaptor would be a must have for me if it was availivle for the Nikon Z6.

    • @miriamjencova1966
      @miriamjencova1966 4 года назад +3

      @@yashwinning Do you think Minolta A lenses can also be used with the adaptor?

    • @yashwinning
      @yashwinning 4 года назад +3

      @Miriam Gajkova any lens should work with this adaptor, as long as a) you find a Leica M to whichever mount you wish to adapt, and b) that lens can focus to infinity.
      If I'm not mistaken old Minolta AF lenses could still be focused manually if you chose to, so if you can manually set it to infinity you're golden.

    Hey Manny. Please take these comments in the right way, I'm not a troll, I'm just a fan of your channel with an opinion. Your video production has become a lot slicker lately, but part of me misses the personal touch that your older videos had. The production values were simpler but felt more directly connected to me as a viewer. It's part of the reason I why I subscribed in the first place and a big part of your appeal to me. I completely respect if you want to go in a new direction and perhaps earn more views from a wider audience. I also respect that a lot of your subscribers will also enjoy the newer style. As I said this is just an opinion, I still subscribe and still look forward to your videos in future. Hope you don't take this as an attack on your work and success so far and realise that it comes from a place of up most respect.

    Can I use this on a 85mm lens? The website says it is ideal for a lens 50mm or wider.

    Any idea if it can take full use of the 5 axis IBIS? From what I know, manual lenses (completely no electric contacts) can only benefit from 3 axes as the other 2 require the lens to report focus distance to calculate.

    So did you also need to buy an additional adapter for the Sony E mount lens as well?

    Hey there! Does this help with Rokinon 1.4 Manual lens ? Suggest me please

    • @pfutato
      @pfutato 5 лет назад

      I havent used the Pronto, but it should work just fine as long as there is an available m-mount adapter for the lens (one that retains infinity focus without optics). Assuming the Rokinon is an EF mount, you can get an EF to M adapter, then mount that to the Pronto.
