- Chloride Arizona a living ghost town.
In 1860, six miners began mining in the Hualapai Indian territory, but four were killed in an attack. The remaining two miners escaped and brought back the Calvary to reclaim the mine. The town of Chloride was founded in 1863.
Chloride grew to a population of around 5,000 and was the county seat at one point. The town had a railroad spur to Kingman, hotels, a bank, a pool hall, barber shops, saloons, restaurants, several churches, and a hospital.
The population fell to 2,000 by 1917 and Chloride was nearly a ghost town by 1944. When the mines closed, miners and their families left.
Chloride is a "living ghost town" with a population of almost 400, mostly retirees. Some mines are still producing ore, while others are privately owned or controlled by the federal government.
We own 2 acres adjacent to the Train Station to the North - We moved and have resettled in Nova Scotia Canada. One of the Acres has a Historic Goldmine on it - called the Watchmine. We loved living in Chloride and still have these building lots with City Services available to us but we have moved so much we do not have the energy or time to manage or a reason to keep them. Just a note - chloride was a wild town and keeps a lot of character. It was a wild west experience and we ran a Air B and B for two years and was very successful and everyone loved the town and its heritage.
We love old west town and the history. I am almost positive we will own a spot in a ghost town one day, we always have our eyes open 👍. Thank you for the comment and for watching. We will see you in the next one.
Cool give me an acre.
The land for sale? I might be interested :)
My grandmother was the postmaster in the late '60s early '70s and in the back on the post office was the fire house. That is not the old school house, it burned down in the late '70s. The school had a dirt field where my dad played football, that tough. Most of those building were built as tourist trap attractions. My grandfather was a miner, and in later life worked at that gas station on the corner. He was also the water district well manager. I have a lot of great memories spending my summers in Chloride
Thank you for the great informeting and story. We love chloride, thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one.
I lived there with my parents back in 1947-8. My father worked at a gold mine (Samoa ?) way up the mountain. I'm 84 now. There was a BIG mine at the end of first street,, but was completely removed. Had a big hoist, many buildings, but the shaft was flooded. The tailings have been reworked for any leftovers. There was a heavy snow that winter and two mine workers from the Samoa had a role-over accident checking on the mine and one was killed. We were out of work then, moved away that spring.

Thank you for following along we certainly appreciate your support. Love the comments. We will see you in the next one.
The narrow gauge train tracks someone wanted to bring tourists up from the main highway four miles away from town. However, landowners did not want him to have an easement across their property so this grand project failed.
A small two-lane highway ran through town in the early days but development of the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead meant that a four-lane had to be built. They ran it across open lands west of town and that is Highway 93, which is the current access to Chloride.
Thank you for the history and the comment. We sure love the town and surrounding area. Thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one.

Popular place for retirees 🌈.
Great, glad you found a nice place to settle.
About 4 years ago I did the short drive off the main road and walked the town. Ate dinner in the only restaurant and I had the fish dinner which I still remember as being really good. Signs around the restaurant talked of music concerts on weekends, don't remember who played. I remember the restaurant as being rather large, so I figured that people came to town when a band played there. I took some pictures which I haven't looked at in a while, but are pretty much what's in the video you made. Friendly people live there. ready to tell you about the town, if you ask them.
Thank you for watching and the comment, yes super nice people and they love there town. Sure hope they can find a way to get some funding to keep it up.
We will see you in the next one.
Wow. 80 years ago I lived in a town like that. That is an antique lift, I worked under one of them for years. You're video brought back so many memories when I was a child. Thank you so very very much.
So glad you enjoyed the video, thank you for the comment, we will see you in the next one.
There's an old stone building just outside of Chloride that served as the town brothel. Still standing to this day (but with no roof.) Makes sense it's stone, wouldn't want that burning down, lol.
Hello, we saw the corner of an old stone structure off the side of the road surrounded by desert 🏜cactus wasn’t much left. I bet that was it. Darn it, I will go back during our adventures and take a look. Thank you for the info and watching. We will see you in the next one.
Don't need no roof on no brothel dadburnit. Any sodbuster worth his snuff just needed some gold nuggets fur a dagblasted good time with Miss Sady
Yea, the phone is a cellular phone with coin slots to access...self contained unit... Bunch of them in AZ.... Neat!

The "old prospector" building was a bar/ resturant. Make a right at the corner there and ther is a building on the right with a modern glass door... this is a resturant and bar as well as small antique shop. The food here is excelent and should not be missed.
Thank you so much for the comment, we will be heading back this winter. We will definitely try the food. Thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one.

Love these steps back in time, especially as I lived and traveled around Arizona when I first came to live in the U.S. from Ireland in 2000. I believe I lived in some old ghost town in AZ a previous lifetime!😅
Maybe, many people from Ireland worked in the old mines. We both feel the same way as we are drawn to these old ghost towns. Thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one.
It is interesting what youtube suggests to me. Mostly things I have no interest in, but this video I found fascinating. I especially loved the old jail. Thank you.

There is a working pay phone in Evergreen Station, CO. It’s necessary because of very poor cell service in the area.
Hello, that makes sense. Come to think of it. That may be the case here as well. This was a fun little town. Thank you so much for watching and we will see you in the next one.
Great place to visit. I was there. I truly enjoyed the time I spent there😊

My mother in law lives in Golden valley just a few miles away. Most of the people that live near her work in the mine next to Chloride.
We love this area, is she by Santa Claus. The old road stop attractions, we are going soon to film what’s left.
Thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one.

Chloride isn't a ghost town! It's up n running! I love Chloride, lived several miles from there.
That is good land to live on, we love the area. Chloride is up and running for sure! Thank you for watching and we will see you I. The next one.
The bay window in the station is for the station master to see the train comming
That is awsome, love that old station. Thank you for watching and the comment, we will see you in the next one.
Just saying, at the gas station, that had the mining cart tracks, that ran around front of the gas pumps. You missed the locomotive turn table, that was behind the old stove. Interesting? I wonder if those tracks, were from the mine? Love the video
Shoot, wish I would have caught that. Thank you for letting me know. Thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one.
فيديو رائع جدا انا احب كل شيء قديم اين ذهب الناس ماذا حل بهم وهل هم احياء في اي تأريخ تعود هذه الحي السكني 😔😔😔😔😔
Thank you so much for watching, a few people still live in the town, some mining in the area still exists. For the most part mining operations stopped around 1930s to 1940s during WW2. And modern mining and regulation took over. There is a lot of mining that exists to this day but I read of digging tunnel they open pit mine or strip mine. Less worker labor, more profit and less dangerous. This is what I have learned finding these areas.
Thank you so much for you comments and watching and we will see you in the next one.
Nice content. Please try uploading in 4K if possible.
Thank you for watching, we will see you in the next one.
I remember watching a cowboy movie and they used the name of a town Chloride.
Funny, we were talking about that the other day. Seems like old westerns looked for old west town to use in movies. Thanks for the comment and we will see you in the next one.
Is there any property there for sell there? I would love buying in and becoming an old Story Teller of the area. I have enjoyed that type of Entertainment years ago.
Yes, we did see lots around the area for sale and a little out of town. We thought about it as well 😀 it does get plenty hot. When you step out of town no trees or shade to speak of. Thank you for watching and the comment and we will see you in the next one.
Would like to point out, if it's a Frontier serviced phone...it may not be working
Haha, it had a dial tone 😂 I alway check and this is the first 👍 thank you for watching and we will see you in the next one.
Thank you. Now I don't need to go there
Thank you for the comment and following along and we will see you in the next one.
Not sure what a living ghost town means, but it sounds like "inhabited living" is a bit redundant.
Hello and thank you for watching. Well they say it’s a ghost town but people live in it I guess. 🤫 haha well that’s my version. Thank you so much for watching and we will see you in the next one.
Count how many times the word "OLD" is used in this video.
A lot, I laughed about it a little. I do that a bit as most everything I am around in these areas are old and I get caught up in. The moment😂 thank you for watching and the comment.
You cant have a ghost town if people are living in it. By definition a ghost town must have no living inhabitants. Otherwise its just a old decrepit group of buildings that people live in because of financial problems.
Thank you for your comment. Great people and a great location to visit.
Doctor is not spelled with an E Lol
Haha, we see that a lot in these old places, I guess they do it to make us laugh. Thank you so much for watching and we will see you in the next one.
This is not a ghost town
Thanks for watching!
Tourist trap 👎
It is what it is, super nice people living in a old mining town, we loved the location. Thank you for watching.
