  • This was one of the most interesting recent Podcasts from the Bible Project. Tim Mackie tells a story from Numbers that brings light on how God has allowed the story of eden and his Torah to shape us so that as our context and culture changes we can apply the wisdom from Jesus and the Torah to reshape how we faithfully follow Yahweh.
I believe we should apply this to women leading and teaching in our churches.

The bible liberates woman in a lot of places. I was talking to a jewish teacher who knew the law and she said that they believed in keep on learning all the time. I think if you believe in the goodness of God He will lead people into seeing new revelations .

faith is to have hope, patience and trust God's wisdom. Satan would tell God, these Christians do not have faith, remove the hope and let's see. There would be some 'high' hopes and then everything will turn quiet to 'kill' the faith. All the best to all!!! Keep the faith ...

Spoiler alert! The daughters of Zelophehad had to marry their cousins, or uncles!
“For Mahlah, Tirzah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Noah, the daughters of Zelophehad, were married unto their father's brothers' sons: And they were married into the families of the sons of Manasseh the son of Joseph, and their inheritance remained in the tribe of the family of their father.” (Numbers 36:11-12, KJV)

You believe the Bible project shows that women can lead in churches? What about the requirements for an elder laid out by apostle Paul? Mike Winger has done an exhaustive study on women in ministry. I'd suggest you check it out if you seek to make the Bible defend such a claim. Mind you this applies specifically to the role of a woman as a pastor. We have proof women were deacons and sometimes even prophets. But it is plainly God's will for willful submission where appropriate.

Have you seen Terran Williams' articles discussing Mike WInger's videos. I'd encourage you to check those out. I was also initially convinced of Winger's videos, until I saw it stacked up against more scholarly sources and academic research. I think Williams did an article for each Winger video.

@@trentbizub2161 I do no think one can reasonably account for female elders in the Church and I believe it is sinful for a woman to usurp male headship in the household and for a man to forgo his duty as a man. I cannot read egalitarianism into the scripture from a plain reading of the text. Women are equal in value, but are not and cannot be equal in function. It destroys what God Himself established.

None of his 14 points hold any water nor do they refute Mike wingers points. Women were prophets? So what? Prophets aren't to have authority over a church they are to be tested to the scriptures. Women could be apostles? Where does it say they had any authority. The NAR movement is umbilical the only apostles with authority over the church are those who established the original church and met the risen Jesus. Women ordained as ministers?
If anyone is blameless of one wife [the] husband children having believing not under accusation of debauchery or insubordinate.
      Titus1:6
This is the exact word for word. It specifically says husband of one wife not spouse.
The man, Adam, named all the creatures He was given dominion over, he also named "woman."
Men and women and very different in their nature's. We as a society have collapsed under blurred gender roles. If egalitarianism were true we would be thriving.

I'll conclude with a man that I think wiser than me.
As I have said, I am not married myself, but as far as I can see, even a woman who wants to be the head of her own house does not usually admire the same state of things when she finds it going on next door. She is much more likely to say ‘Poor Mr. X! Why he allows that appalling woman to boss him about the way she does is more than I can imagine.’ I do not think she is even very flattered if anyone mentions the fact of her own ‘headship.’ There must be something unnatural about the rule of wives over husbands, because the wives themselves are half ashamed of it and despise the husbands whom they rule.

@@jonathanvancura2080 I'm not looking to debate point-by-point here. I would suggest genuinely reading the articles attributed to each video Winger made.
You bring up the NAR movement...I'm not affiliated with that movement, neither is Williams. I'm wondering what point or connection you wish to make with that?
I would again encourage you to read Williams' articles. He touches on everything from women leadership in the OT, to the "one-woman-man" Greek shorthand of Paul's letters, as well as framing the creation accounts in hebraic context and thought.
I'm totally down to simply agree to disagree, but I think we need to take the different sides of the discussion with charity and genuinely engage with these differing perspectives.
I would be happy to discuss this in a different forum or format. I'd hate for this video to turn into a wall of back-and-forth text (though biblical conversation is exciting for me!)
