Thanks for a great reaction! I just love to see someone discovering Dirty Loops for the first time, and have their minds blown by this insanely competent powerhouse of a group. They started the group as a hobby project in 2008, and never thought it would be anything other than that. In 2010 they put up a video on youtube (a cover of Lady Gaga's "Just Dance"), as a booking reference, to see if they could get a gig or two, just for fun, as they thought their music was way too unsexy for anyone to actually like it. Needless to say, they were completely wrong. The video went viral and a LOT of people absolutely loved it. Just about everything they've ever released is of this ridiculous musical quality, so if you consider checking out more of them, you could basically pick anything, and you more than likely won't be disappointed. My personal favourite is one of their more jazz fusion-y pieces, "Work Shit Out", from their EP "Phoenix". They recently released a new EP, "Beagle", which is utterly brilliant. Earlier releases are the album "Loopified" in 2014, the EP "Phoenix" i 2020, a collab album with guitarist Cory Wong and his horn section ("Turbo") in 2021, along with a bunch of covers that can be found on their channel (and a few oldies that are only uploaded to their soundcloud page). All of them stellar. And believe it or not, they're just as stupidly good live. They've all known each other and played together for 20+ years by now, in their late thirties. Jonah (keyboard/vocals) and Henrik (bass) even went to music elementary school together and met when Henrik was 11 and Jonah was 9. Aron (drums) comes from another part of Sweden and came along when he moved to Stockholm at the age of 16, to attend the same music high school as they did (he was in the year between the other two). Then they all attended Kungliga Musikhögskolan (Royal College of Music) in Stockholm, where Henrik and Aron studied jazz/rock, and Jonah opted for music production (iirc) as his main subject. "Automatic" isn't a Dirty Loops original though. It was written and performed by Hikaru Utada originally, but the Dirty Loops cover was so popular, especially in Japan, that many people make covers of their version rather than the original. It can only be found on the Japan edition of "Loopified" unfortunately.
GOBSMACKED! I never get tired of watching people experience Dirty Loops for the first time! These are the 3 baddest musicians on the planet! This is a rabbit hole you definitely want to go down. They are difficult to classify... Dirty Loops are their own genre, and always excellent! They'll be in London March 14 and I'm flying from Denver to see them. It will be my 3rd time since 2014 seeing them live but the other 2 times were in the U.S. Maybe I'll see you there!
Kudos, @MotelsonMars, for flying from Denver to London to see these guys, this is truly devoted fanship! And if anyone deserves it, it’s Dirty Loops!! 🤘👍👌🫶☺️
welcome guys, you've just been Looped ;-) The musician's band, who also appeal to everyone else. Full of musical food, get nourished. We'll be here for any you choose next
Great reaction! This is 12 years old, there’s a lot to experience in the Dirty Loops rabbit hole. Yes, they’re Swedish, did an LP 2014 and some EP:s since then, touring a lot, did an extensive US tour this spring. But this one is one of a few covers they started with on RUclips, without any ambition other than to have fun and do their own stuff apart from being session musicians. But producers like David Foster, Andreas Carlsson and eventually Quincy Jones heard these covers and began a collaboration. They put out an LP, Loopified with original material and covers 2014, a couple of years later they came under the management of Quincy Jones and put out EP:s, one of them in collaboration with the guitarist and band leader Cory Wong. Just a few weeks ago the put out a new EP with 5 songs, some completely different to their old style. But everything they do is astounding, so it’s hard to recommend individual songs. But I’ll try: Hit Me from 2014. Next To You and Work Shit Out from 2020. Thriller (yes, MJ) and Follow The Light with Cory Wong from 2021. Run Away and Living For The City (yes, Stevie Wonder) from their new EP 2024. Have fun going down this rabbit hole, you’re not alone in it 😊
Welcome boys to the Dirty loops rabbit hole, Jonah nillson vocals and keyboard. Henrick Linder today's greatest bass player and the brains behind dirty loops drummer Aaron mellergard. You've got to watch fans favourite video (the studio videos) with a great title WORK SHIT OUT, you said they are next level musicians, this video will show you what they are all about, a fusion of rock pop funk jazz, whatever, they play it. Then WORLD ON FIRE, ROCK YOU, Then the classic masterpiece NEXT TO YOU, this video will take you all the way to church and back, just a few to get you started on your dirty loops journey, you mentioned stevie wonder, a couple of weeks ago they released a cover video of "LIVING FOR THE CITY unbelievable bass and drumming from Henrick and Aaron, great vocals from Jonah. Keep the dirty loops reactions coming, the dirty loops fan's are looking forward to your next reaction ( work shit out hopefully). Best wishes boys from the North East of England.
I forgot, I call their music "Happy feel good music ". Once you've seen work shit out, you'll want to watch more and more, nice clear videos, Dirty loops videos don't get blocked. If you want to see a great instrumental you've got to watch TURBO, Collaboration with guitar player Cory Wong and his horn section. You will notice Cory and his band on the left recorded in the USA and Dirty loops recorded their part in Sweden. They are all next level musicians, turn up the volume, sit back and enjoy. Dirty loops were managed by the recently departed QUINCY JONES. They usually put funny things on their credits. Once again welcome to the Dirty loops family, best wishes from the North East of England.
Hi Edd and Ian, this was one fun reaction! Thanks a bunch. Such a treat to listen to this Dirty Loops cover again, it’s not often reacted to. And it’s crazy! Loosing focus halfway through - easy, cause it ain’t straightforward in any way… Yep, three longtime friends from Sweden, having attended the same primary school as well as later on the best music conservatory there is in Sweden, studying variously things from jazz to rock to music production. They had diverse influences and backgrounds in music, but they all have in common that music was an integral part of their upbringing and all of their lives. Their siblings and parents played or sang in bands or choirs. Jonah, the singer and keyboardist, started singing from practically age 1 in the choirs which both of his parents were leading. Then at 4 he started learning the piano, changing from classical to jazz piano in his late teens. Lead vocals came late in his life, after he’d done some backup singing for a while, but one day was asked to stand in for the lead singer. Quincy Jones who heard him and subsequently signed the band to his management board for a few years, said of Jonah: “….music is in his blood. He’s got the perfect balance between right and left brain hemisphere, the musical knowledge and the intuition, and he’s got one of the biggest vocal ranges I’ve ever heard.” Or so. Henrik, bass, also started off on the piano but switched to bass at around age13. Him and Aron, drums, already had done some session work from around age 16 on, and In 2008 the three friends decided to form this trio, ‘to play the music which would otherwise get them fired from a gig.” Their first album ‘Loopified’ came out in 2014, whilst they were still signed by David Foster, I believe. Rolling in the Deep is from that album, as well as a few other covers and originals. And I totally agree with you, this could easily stand on its own legs, had they changed the lyrics (and a few other bits ;) Their originals from this album are completely nuts, also, and they followed the same recipe which they followed with their covers: take a catchy but simple pop tune and turn it into a monster fusion mash-up, using all of their classical, RnB, gospel, jazz, funk and rock background. ‘Taking a simple tune, and then doing the surgery’, as Aron once called it. And mostly true to that motto ‘How can less be more? More is More!’ Lady Gaga’s Just Dance, Christina Aguilera’s Dirty, J Bieber’s Rollercoaster, and so on: all of them mindblowing and brilliant in their own right. In a subsequent collaboration with funk and rhythm guitarist Cory Wong, they covered Michael Jackson’s Thriller, and it’s gobsmacking again, in a completely different way! Michael Jackson has often been mentioned, also as a major vocal influence on Jonah, as well as Jamiroquai and Stevie Wonder 😎 TOTO was a big one for Aron, Flea for Henrik, and the Pat Metheny Group as a stylistic influence for all of them... in the end, I think it’s fair to say that these guys drew from everything they’d ever listened to, growing up, and in the process very much forged their own style and sound. The most recent song they dropped is a ‘cover’ of Stevie Wonder’s Living for the City’, and the jazz and funk are out there!!! Enjoy the epic ride down the Dirty Loops rabbit hole, guys! 🔥🔥🔥 I certainly enjoyed your thoughts to these badass players and look forward to more! 🙏👌👍
What a wonderful reaction, with your amazement, and you giving Dirty Loops the praise they deserve! Oh yes, please react to some more of their songs. philipshort gives you good advise on where to go next, though I would save "Work shit out" a little bit, so you have something really brilliant to look forward to. Everything DL is brilliant in it's own right, though, and in addition, you might find yourself saying "this was not what I expected" now and then. Subscribed!
