  • Monthly test of the LaPorte County siren system. This 2001 is located in front of the NIPSCO (Northern Indiana Public Service Company) coal fired power plant in downtown Michigan City. The E-Class is audible from this location, located just across the harbor in Washington Park. You might be able to hear it wailing during the attack cycle. It did do voice 5 minutes before 11 as usual, but I missed it due to heavy traffic on 421. No tones either since Burns was down in Lafayette and had my scanner. (He also proposed later in the day, so congrats to Mr Burns!) Sirens in LaPorte County are tested on the 1st Saturday of the month at 11AM CDT.

I've been to that siren before, but because LaPorte county tests on Saturday I can't film the tests because of religion. That parking lot you were in used to be the parking lot of a popular restaurant... Swingbellies. They had delicious chicken strips! :D Swingbellies moved to south side of US-12, east of the corner of US-12 and Karwick Rd. When I go to Michigan City, IN for the weekend, if we want to go to a restaurant, that's usually where we go because the place I stay at is literally just north of that corner!
I was wondering the sequence of signals on LaPorte county's test, I now know it's 3 minutes of alert, then 3 minutes of attack.
What scanner would you recommend for hearing the activation tones?

NWIN Weather They use BC75XLT's. I use one too, and it is a wonderful and simple scanner.

Tractorandsirens 1466 Tractorandsirens 1466 I'm guessing he's an Orthodox Jew and therefore can't do work of any sort on Saturdays (which would include driving to and recording a siren)

I believe this is a 2001 DC if you wanna add that to the title.

Yeeaah! I could tell because that thing in the middle of the horn is like a cone and not as fat as the newer ones. Also Wichita KS (My hometown.) has a decent amount of DC's.

To be technical, this classifies as a 3rd gen SRN. This is a unit that has the newer stator and projector design, but it appears that either the motor cover was misplaced with an older conical one or this is the earliest unit of 3rd gen.

@@Ayeris23 No, it is a DC. The third gen 2001 has a different back box and the horn cone is bigger. And alittle higher pitched.

Sirendude744 Cincinnati not quite. This unit is identical to the 3rd generation. The only difference is the previous gen motor cover. This unit has the new stator and projector design with the old back housing and thick rotator housing just like the 2nd and 3rd gens share.

@@thunderbolt10031 but, the srn's are alittle higher pitched than the DC's. I would classify this as a 2001-DC second generation. Same as Chicago's 2001's. It is just missing the horn screen/net. And a DC sits alittle lower on the backbox compared to the srn's
