There is a toyline from the 90s called Puppy Surprise that I think you could customize if you wanted a "rubber" face. They've had a few reboots with similar sculpts so they aren't super expensive. The OG line also came in Kitty, Bunny, and Bear versions. I've only seen the puppy and kitty versions for the reboots though.
rubbing alcohol for smoothing before baking! also if you decide to do this again i would recommend using foil for the base so you can keep it on the form while baking/edit as you go without having to carve the inside out later. big fan of rushtons and your work. would love to see a line of these guys or a collector plush or two with your designs/sculpts! i have some rushtons that have been passed down through the generations but would love to get more/some similar fellas for my collection.
You have such a keen eye for vintage style, I'm always so impressed how well you emulate it!This came out so so CUTE! It looks so soft and snuggly, what an awesome piece!! I love toys like this, you can make it some little hats and outfits. LOVE IT. Baby oil (mineral oil) will also work to smooth the clay, and can be used to soften crumbly clay. I think most oils will work but probably stick to non food oils lol. Or alcohol as others have suggested.
If you ever feel like exploring this theme more, sculty make a doll specific polymer clay that's flesh toned and semi transparent. I've found it gives more life like white person skin tone, but can be tinted with acrylics, for extra horror value!
This is such a cute and inspirational project thank you so much for sharing your work. You used so many different skills to bring this one together! As for that pattern. You can cut two pieces out as mirrored images. Then put them right sides together and sew up that straight center back line. At that point it will probably all make sense to you! The part facing up when you laid the paper on the desk in the video, that says "FOLD HERE FOR FACING", is probably the cuff of the sleeve. The Vs that go together are probably meant to go on top of each other, not sewn up like darts. I really hope this helps! ❤
Do you think that the two dart areas of the sleeve area should be seen together? Like, to one another? Or that they were sewn correctly? I definitely think that there needs to be a mirror image of it cut too. Old patterns kind of assume you know a lot unfortunately, making them really hard for those of us still learning.
I'm a 3D printing person so my thought with the rubber face would be to print one in TPU. It can be painted on its own but I bet you could spray some flexible matte varnish type stuff on it to give it a good finish before painting
Haha nooooo i was voting for the small black eyes and robo was like "no shes gonna go for the other" and you did so i hope youre happy youre causing marital distress in my household 😂❤
Now that I realize it, you could probably cut off the face of a puppy suprise doll and remove the paint to use it as a base for a plastic face, not to mention they actually have quite a few bases from the kitty surprise dolls to the literal horse ones, quite the variety! (Or just leave them as is, some of the vintage ones are super cute like the poodle one)
OH MY HEART this might be my favourite masterpiece you did of all time!It replicates that vintage feeling SO WELL.This literally inspired me to make my own but it would turn out so terrible....anyways,perfect video as always,if you ever do another one PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE make a caniche
Ahhhh so cute! I’m a Pom mom myself and yes, the lack of cute Pom merch is disappointing for sure. I’m a big fan of the dolls from the 80s-90s that did the plastic face and plush bodies so I love this style as well. ❤

Smooth polymer clay with a little bit of isopropyl alcohol on a cotton swab or wear gloves when sculpting.

Oh my gosh I love it. Two thoughts! One, mini versions would be adorable Christmas ornaments. Two, a green version would make a perfect baby Grinch!
