Classic anti war song about how small misunderstandings could lead to global extermination through war.
Horrible truth about this song is that it really could take the smallest of incidents to ignite the coldwar .
Was für ein Lied 🔥🔥
I was stationed in Germany with U.S. Army when this came out.
This was one of my favorite songs in the 80s. The singer's nickname is also the group's name, and it's the Spanish word for "little girl", so it's pronounced "Nay-nuh". The English version of the song is called "99 Red Balloons", but the German sounds so much better.
No, she calls herself Nee-nah
@@Jim_the_Hermitno she doesn’t 😂
There is an English version that was produced later for the English speakers who couldn't cope with "foreign languages" but this is better
Totally agree, the German lyrics are much more powerful. I don't know why so many Americans have problems with sub-titles, It's my preferred method of watching foreign entertainment.
Die erste Frau, in die ich verliebt war!
I prefer the german version...have more power
As a German... the lyrics in the German version are just 1000 times better. The English version almost seems silly while the German lyrics are very chilling and haunting.
exactly, nothing can match original😏
The original German version is where it's at, even tho I can't understand it they kill it and with subtitles u can know.
Hey. Yes, the English version is "99 Red Balloons" (it's not an exact translation, but kinda sorta close enough)
A friend a friendA friend always ask me why I cried When I listen to the song When I listened To what he thought was a dance song when I actually told him what it actually meant and what it actually told in a story wise he started crying as well
I was in high school in Germany when this song came out in '82. We used to listen to it on the long bus trips to track meets. I wonder if the 1983 refers to the video. There is an English version, but it's not as good. The translation doesn't fit the music as well.
4 months after you posted this video, I just finished watching it and leaving a comment. I have heard this song and danced to it many times before the English version came out. Most of us still prefer the German version of this song though. My reason for enjoying the German version is because I didn't know what the song was about, and it had an upbeat dance sound to it. Now that I know what it is about, it kind of put a damper on it for me that lasted about 1 minute because I love the sound of the song. Whenever I hear this version on the radio in the car, I sing along with it as if I know how to sing the words in German. I don't. So yeah, if you want to listen to the English version, it is out there. Enjoy that one too while you are listening to it! Peace. ☮
This used to fill the dance floor back in the day. There is an English version, but the German is much better
Yes there is,it's called 99 red ballrooms.
Nena also released an English version of the song. But according to my taste, this one didn't turn out that well. Her "special, somewhat flippant" way of singing doesn't really come across in the English version.
99 red balloons is the English version, it's a terrible version
Realy terrible translation , as its not even close to the original lyrics.
Yet both versions hit the charts in the US.
@@jameshelm2847 Still how many people actualy speak or understand german in the US . In europe this song was quite powerfull. as it was in german with the original lyrics . and on the edge of WW3 during this time period . people tend to forget how close the cold war was in igniting during the 80s
neither of the pronunciations of her name were correct. :)
Balloons released from the other side of the wall would be spotted by Russian radar and they would scramble their jets. True story she is singing.
