This looks very interesting. Two thoughts: 1) APC is supposed to use the car's GPS to send positional data to the phone if available per Apple's spec. Using the BT device, will it still send that data? 2) Heads up, when you turn off your car, the infotainment system seems to have a sort of capacitor that keeps the memory active for a period of time. If you turn the car on within this time frame, the system will boot up MUCH faster. A good test would be to turn off the car, leave it for 15 minutes, then turn it on. Either way, your system seems so much faster than my 2018 ND1. Did it get an upgrade, or are there settings I can change to make it start up faster?
#1: Not sure how this works with a device like this #2: Yeah, I have tried with letting the car sit for a longer period to truly have the power off. There is a longer startup however the timing difference is the same having wired or not even in this case. The OEM ND infotainment is slow on boot up at least on my 2019
I was looking for info on if it allows streaming apps? You mention it when you talk about the AI box and you say "can stream nexflix and youtube as well" . When you opened up the apple car play in the car I didn't see the app icon pop up so how do you access it?
this specific dongle only has support for wireless apple carplay. There are other devices that support e.g. netflix, youtube. e.g Carlinkit AI box Max (has a lot of functions) amzn.to/3U1XpYO or ottocast Play2Video Pro (can only run RUclips/netflix) amzn.to/4azPIOM
I just got one of these for my 2016 Golf GTI. Setup was a breeze, startup time took an average of ten seconds, and very responsive. I was having connectivity issues whenever I plug-in my phone to use CarPlay, but with the OttoCast it pretty much eliminates that. One minor annoyance is the audio tends to skip or cut a few seconds but that’s expected with a wireless connection. Still, pretty solid product so far.
thanks for the feedback! Glad you like it! In all honesty the wireless setup on OEM infotainment systems bugs out as well. I hade to reboot my phone yesterday to get it connected to the Mach-e with native wireless connection
didn't I mention that in the video, maybe I did not ! I did not notice any difference worth mentioning compared to e.g. OEM wireless AA/Carplay. As always a wire connection is always the best. However even wired AA/Carplay I think the music streams via BT?
I’m interested in buying this for my new CX-5 that only does wired CarPlay. I’m curious about what happens if you pair two different iPhones and both are in the car at the same time. Have you tried this use case?
Be aware that the U2-AIr & U2-Air pro DO NOT pass through the GPS signal from the car. So the battery on your phone will take a hit and navigation will be poor if you keep your phone in your pocket. I would recommend the Carlinkit autokit based adapters that do support this function that is part of the Apple carplay standard specification.
what drugs are you on??? apple carplay requires the phone to be connected via a cable (normally) in order for maps to work... MANY CARS DO NOT HAVE MAPS BUILT IN any more.
Hi. Quick question: Can you actually watch RUclips and Netflix videos while driving using this device. Not saying it's right to do but I want to know. Thanks for your prompt reply. Regards from Mexico!

Hey Maz, your missing a demo on using the stock features of the Mazda display. Can you add demo for showing going in and out of CarPlay while connected to it? I have this fear it’s messing with the other functions of the Mazda system.
there is a bit of lag when searching for music skipping songs or using GPS but let's be honest when you are all set up and driving you don't really mess with all that stuff
Hi! Looks really fast. Can you try again for speed but keep the car locked for maybe half a minute? Sometimes things stay on and connected for a little bit, so want to see what it’s like when you start up the car in the morning.
The system for sure does not go to deep sleep until like 15 minutes or so. I have tested the start up-time when car has been off for some hours. The general boot time is for sure longer as the infotainment system in the ND is slow in general. However there was no difference compared to having it wired or wireless even from that aspect.
Can you do an update review? I got mine 2 weeks ago and the only issue I had is that the sound drops randomly while listening to music or anything. It does not come back on its own. I have to kill the app and start it again. It does it a lot!!!
If you opt on a long trip to plug in instead- is this as easy as just plugging in your cellphone- or does the bluetooth connection need to be reset for the phone/car?
Just got one of these for my new Kia Niro EV as the wired CarPlay keeps dropping out. Something other Kia Niro EV owners have complained about and have suggested trying a wireless ACP adapter. I am not sure I understand how this would work as the device only has the one port. Before I buy more cables (I didn't receive any with the device) can you explain? I only have the one USB-A port in the car which is the dedicated port for media. The other ports are USB-C for charging only. Do I need some sort of spit cable?

So am I. But on daily Mazda 3 with newer system CMU is faster, more responsive (thanks to faster CPU) and boots up almost instatly - I’m really interested how this will gone work!
The system in the ND is painfully slow in general 🤣 feels ancient in comparison to my later cars. We don't have our Tiguan anymore with wired Carplay/AA so can't try the adapter on a different car atm and our Mach-e already has wireless capability, can see if I can try the adapter in the Mach-e which has a fairly quick system
@@Themazcorner it should work - every car having wired carplay should be capable (event for test purposes) to use it!
