I have this piano white kit , ca. early '90s. I put a smaller after market TAMA decal on a black resonant head on my 24" kick. That drum looks massive now. lol
Vintage Tama is on another level. Superb kit!
If only Tama brought this series back

Seeing in the new Lux Æturna video of Lars using his white Artstar II kit again, its possible Tama might make another 25 of those. Artstar Classic maybe they'll call it?

@@Gretsch0997 Yeah, the 'superstar classic' line isn't really much. Just another mid range maple kit. Sounds good but there's really no market for power toms and large sizes anymore. Everyone's going compact.
I would stare at Tama drum catalogs for HOURS listening to Slayer, Metallica, Antharax, etc....Their hardware weighed a ton but regardless I kept dreaming!!

For Tama's 50th anniversary of the Superstar Line(1974-2024) this year Tama came out with reproduction Tama Superstar 100% birch drums as well as the old school Bell brass,Mastercraft,etc specialty snares like back in the 80's. I bet soon they will come back out with the Tama Artstar in a reproduction but like the Superstar reissue they will offer 10" toms as standard on kits- and shorter depth traditional drum shell sizes.While i mainly played power tom size toms for years because that is what was usually available especially used drums-When i finally got a shorter tom standard modern size setup and standard 22" bass drum with all maple shells-The kit was so comfortable to play with the drums lower and my throne not set up so high-and the rich resonant tone sounded so much better!! I would NEVER get another 80's huge power tom size kit with larger 24" bass drum.

Was always my dream kit. Then at 16 my dad bought me a 6 peice grandstar kit. With 24 inch kick. Damn I miss those Power tom drum kits. 😔😥
I have the Granstar series. Thanks for the Video sounds great.New heads make such a difference. For 7 yrs I also have Tama Silverstar I've been playing the factory heads and I just put Evans hydraulic heads on all the toms and floor toms and bingo. The sound is so good. Keep Jamming never quit.

Love the sound of power toms. I am using a Yamaha Stage Custom from the late 90s with power toms. Just can't get that sound without them.
Idk how you feel about white heads but the UV2 from Evans are amazing especially if you got larger toms!

I'm using 12 and 14" Artstar II toms (cherry wine finish) with my new band. 12 up top and the 14 hanging for a floor. Yamaha Turbo Tour 24x18 kick in the middle. Couldn't be happier with the sound.

DYK: Lars Ulrich removed the two outer rack toms from his kit after he tried out Sean Kinney’s (Alice in Chains drummer) drum kit; he liked Sean’s drum setup, as he can easily reach the hi-hats and ride cymbal/X-Hat.
He did, around 1994/95. Around the same time he switched to 22” kicks.

The late 80s and early 90s saw some of the best metal kits ever made .
Dave lombardo , Charlie benantte ,nick menza,Lars Ulrich ,John Dette ,Paul bostaph and so on , they all used these, in my opinion they sound so much better than Tama star classics do .
Tama if you can't bring this back ,what about the rockstar kits ?

Yes the single lugs were very cool. Sharktooth’s I call them. Check my other vids, my other kits are Granstars. 👍🏼

Mega bad ass sound! There is nothing like power toms! Bring those old series back! And note: Next video leave the natural sound more time and not that loud crappy music!

I had Artstar Cordia in 84 I think...beautiful finish and sound , a little corrupted soundvice due to everyone should have the Pinstripe drumhead that lead to less sustain !

He used the same shells yes. His were the later 90’s version without the painted interiors.

That is my Yamaha Recording CUSTOM 1993.
If I remember correctly , Lars played the same Tama's that I had , Granstars.
He played Granstar customs on the ‘..and justice’ tours. Artstar 2 with Granstar lugs on the Black album tours

Sound like cardboard boxes....sound is really down to the microphone on a recording, and the one used here is terrible.
Complain to Apple then chap as the mic is the one from my phone.
Such a rad Kit, Cut that hi Hat shaft down a bit and smash out some bland ass Generic Conformist punk-rock.
The music sucks beyond belief, but the drums are incredible.

I still have my mint Artstar II from 1993 and they sound as good as any kit today! Tama should go back and do a retro release of these and others but they're stuck in ugly kit mode these days!
For real.. I look all their starclassic (the 3 branches) finish: MOST of them are UGLY!!
