    It never clicked with me until I watched this video that the reason there is no Start button is because you're already looking at what would be there *should* you click on it. The light came on!! Oh, and happy birthday Reita!

    At first I was very skeptical towards the new windows 8 and because I wanted to buy a new computer so I was very confused because I was not sure I'd bet on an old operating system or Windows 8. But now, after a week with Windows 8.1 starts I like it more and more and as much of the operating system is similar to my android on my samsung galaxy note 3 so this feels ok, I understand those who find it difficult to learn this but give it some time, you'll probably like it

      YellawayHD i dont really miss a start menu to be honest. you now have that start screen with the tiles where you can add or delete all the program shortcuts you want. (and even make it look nice :P ) and if you need a program thats not in that screen you just type it in. no need to click a search icon or whatever, just type it and the program will be found. i love it.

    Thanks for your easy to follow and thorough video.
    Your voice seems to have the correct level of enthusiasm for the topic. 8.1 is a mess. I'd like to say it is very focused on touch interface and that is all, but everything is now buried in random places.
    Sigh.

    Getting familiar with the tangible functionality of 8.1, some obvious differences from the video which seem to be improvements to me. Innovation is always trial and error. While I am not fond of the aesthetics, under the hood it seems to be very good. A RUclipsr I subscribe to was one of the developers to program Win 8. While I like the basic desktop UI of pre 8 operating systems, this one has some very useful integration that make it a wonderful UI for my 2560x1080 monitor. I am still a novice with the system, but the 8.1 version brings back the Start Menu, and relocates some basic controls needed. While I dislike over redundancy, the overall simplicity of the UI is allowing me to pick how I want to do something Vs forcing me to do it the only way programmed into it. And while I dislike over redundancy, people with visual or physical disabilities may require access to the menus in the most annoying ways the majority of users would not.
    Overall, at a glance I like it more than Windows 7. As all is compatible with Windows 8 I feel there is nothing lost aside from functionalities of the Windows 7 U.I. We will see as time rolls on. There is no way this is the worst ever. Anyone who claims that has never used Windows Millennium.

    the new windows 8 and 8.1 is so much better than windows 7. Win 7 was so out dated in my opinion. Don't know why everyone is pissed off. I guess cause it's so different, it's harder to use at the start and probably needs some sort of tutorial when first learning how to use it (Can't remember if it had one)

    In a time where so many people are shifting over to Apple, this was a huge own goal for Microsoft. I've just bought a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and it's left me banging my head against the wall in frustration. I'm either going to install Windows 7, or return the laptop and go with a Macbook, because at least IOS has a more traditional OS feel about it.

  • @rivostain
    @rivostain 10 лет назад +14

    If I have to watch tutorial videos to use windows it pretty much explains how much they have fucked up Windows 8. And also I don't see any advantages at all of using this new UI over the traditional windows UI. If there were some great advantages of using this new UI, it would have been worth learning it. But right now it looks like people have bought PCs with this shit on it and are now having to learn it so that they can at least use their new PCs. I bet if people were offered a free downgrade to Windows 7, 90% of people using Windows 8 today with pounce on it! That itself shows that Windows 8 is a failure being force fed to the masses. Period

    • @JurassicRod
      @JurassicRod 10 лет назад +4

      crazypete8888 If the old comp fucks up I won't have any choice but to get a new one. A typewriter does totally different things to a PC so they are incomparable.

    • @crazypete8888

      ...ummm... you know you can transfer Windows 7 licenses to different PCs right? Or get a Windows 8 PC with downgrade rights to Windows 7? Or get a new PC that has Windows 7 installed? Or get a Windows 8 PC and install Windows 7 on it yourself? It really isn't that complicated. Then again Windows 8 isn't complicated either and you refuse to want to figure it out. I ordered a Dell last week and had the option of Window 8.1, Windows 8.1 Pro, or Windows 7 Pro. It is as simple as clicking a box.

    People who hate Windows 8/8.1 blindly without ever using it is an idiot. It is an awesome upgrade for your old windows in term of performance, quality and appearance. And those who keep pestering about the start button, its no longer valid because there are tons of software out there that you can get for free to bring it back however you want. Just because Microsoft didn't provide it doesn't mean that you can't get it.

    • @Kilzu1
      @Kilzu1 10 лет назад

      I wouldn't really use classic start menu as it just ruins the new feeling (+ the point of having touch screen), just spend few hours if not just 10 minutes of your time on getting used to new looks etc. and you don't really actually notice anything bad about it.
      Yes it is annoying at first, but once you start using multiple software at the same time and want to keep your Facebook app and email etc. running on background you might actually notice some benefit over it.

    • @MrMuggles
      @MrMuggles 10 лет назад +1

      Ville Tuuras From what I've seen of it so far though, it's very much made for touch-screen devices. I can imagine it's great for them, but it's not so great for more traditional desktops or laptops.
      I personally would have no intention of switching to Windows 8/8.1, but sooner or later Windows 7 is no longer going to be available, and we'll be forced to switch to newer versions. Only watching these videos to make sure I'm ready for when that day arrives :L

      What I've also noticed is that in the shops there are few laptops with touch screen so it's targeting a feature that laptops commonly lack. Well done Microsoft.

    • @Kilzu1
      @Kilzu1 10 лет назад +1

      David G I don't know where you are but I have seen quite many laptops with touch screen.
      In fact 90% of laptops which comes with windows 8.1 what I have seen contain touch screen.
      Also it's not difficult to use metro interface with simple keyboard and mouse, it just looks like you can't use it without touch screen.
      Also you can just attach your lap top to touch screen if you want or use remote.
      Windows 7 is just easier to use, but it's not as fast and light as windows 8.1
      If you want games and cheap PC then use Windows and don't complain about it based on how it looks or how you feel.
      If you want quallity and style get Macintosh, then you can at least complain something.

    Where are my videos I downloaded from camera. where are my photos and why do I have some photos in file locations and when I go to share a photo say on face book at prompts me to photos I don't want to share and cannot find how I can share the photo I want. . This is a fricking mess as far as I am concerned and the worst OS I have ever experienced. It requires so much time just to get around. This OS is for people who want apps and cluttered crap. Oh and microsoft wants me to log into an account that hasnt existed for over 3 years and the url does not exist so now i am frozen out of microsoft. But wait they can send me an email to switch the account. How in the hell can I open an email in an account that doesn't exist. I hate it

      It is people like you that are put on this earth to give everyone else a good laugh... Just because it is a touchscreen compatible os doesn't mean you have to have a touch screen. There are literally settings that will change your whole set up to be geared toward non touchscreen use... Stop bitching and actually learn something about a computer. They aren't forcing anything on you, they wanted to make windows 8 to work well with touch screen, touch screen was going to happen anyways... Its an option, not a requirement

    For all of you people constantly complaining about the new start page: DOWNLOAD CLASSIC SHELL!!!
    Classic Shell brings back the classic start menu, and has been around since like a month after windows 8 was released!
    STOP BITCHING.

    I'm one of the few people who's actually a fan of Windows 8, the only complaints I have are the silly drag and drop features which are clearly optimized for touch screens and not a mouse. My second complaint is the ugly design of flat tiles, I've never liked them: 3D bubbles and icons are much more aesthetically pleasing.

    people will always hate change... they criticized when vista came out, but then bitched about windows 7 until it became recognized by the majority. Humans live in a system where "majority rules, therefore it must be true" . Talk about being brainwashed. I have owned both Macs (all iOS versions) and windows (all versions starting from windows 98) and quite frankly I find that each OS offers something different for the consumer.
