I have spent a lifetime in pianos and in my view Robert is probably the most reliable operator on YOU TUBE. He does not try to kid you that he can tune a piano; like some of the others.
Robert, from what you said about most player systems. Most of them require part of the piano to be cut out(just like people undergoing surgery). As a side note, there are player systems that doesn't require that part of the piano to be cut out. And another thing, there is the CEUS for the Bosedorfer pianos is like a PMP and CD, DVD and Blu-ray players in which people record, play and go through the performances.
The problem with after market silent systems is that the action can be regulated to play optimally either for when the silent system is engaged, or when it isn't engaged. Or it can be slightly compromised in regulation for either one.
I recently bought a 1930s Steck Player Piano for 700$. Fully restored. This Player Piano last for another 90 years because it is a mechanic player system
Does a recording system cost a lot more? Watching this video gave me an idea. I have a 50 year old Baldwin 9ft, and I played through high school, and not that much anymore. It would be nice to have great performances in my living room, but moreover my 86 year old mother plays, and I'd like to make recordings of her playing.

Yes. Learn for your own pleasure and inspiration and brain health. Learning music is good for your spirit and your brain! But if you only want music in your house and don't want to be the one learning and playing, then a player piano is great for you. :-)
From how I understand installing the system might affect the piano, but what about removing it? My piano had a good technician installing the player system. Now I’m considering removing it but lost touch with the technician, and I’m not sure how skilled the technicians around me are.
Removing a player system is a pretty big job since the trap work (pedal assembly) has to be reconfigured. If you aren't having any issues with the piano, you can leave the system there. You can easily remove the box in front if you aren't using it. If you need to remove the system, you should engage a player installer to do the job. Hi, I own a similar one in very good condition, it's worth around 5000$, so it's probably not worth it to restore it, for the price of completely restoring it you could possibly get a better one.

Robert, could you please explain the differences between low tension and high tension strings on grands and why Steinways and other high-end brands stick with high tension, even though many praise the warm sound and sustain of low tension instruments?
A show-and-tell would be helpful to understand what's involved in doing an installation. On EVERY piano I've played that has one of these systems installed, the pedals no longer work properly, and I would like to find out why. The sustain often holds too long, the soft pedal usually doesn't work, and the sostenuto never works on a piano with the player installed. Could you explain why this is? Thank you!
Maria Music It depends on the system (it's age), and who did it/how it was installed. Some older early systems had weak solenoids and the actions were often cheated to get things to "work" and components to fit. This is why Robert says "it depends."There is no reason these days for a properly installed system to interfere with the normal playing of any piano. If these are instruments you are in regular contact with it's best to get a qualified technician to evaluate.

I imagine a silent system is lower cost and lower risk than a player system?
