    Edit to review: 2.3L ecoboost produces 300hp & 310 lb/ft torque
    And, that turbocharger makes it quite ‘peppy’ for the 0-50mph ‘get out in traffic’👍
    But, I wonder how much it would produce if dyno tuned for 93 octane🤔
    Timberline option has the power fold-down/up 3rd row seats👍
    Timberline also has an optional magnetic charge on the center console👍
    Some Timberlines have 2nd row cup holders underneath power ports in 2nd row.
    Timberline is the the only Explorer that has Torsen 3:58 differential 👍
    Also, unlike other Explorers, it has the beefy steering wheel👍w/flat bottom
    And a heavy duty suspension👍
    Timberline has 8.7 inches of ground clearance which is 1 inch more than other Explorers.
    True Off-Roaders are going to need at least 10.7+ inches to be safe🤷🏻‍♂
    The fabric in the center of heated seats, allows for extremely quick ‘toasted buns’🤠👍
    The steering wheel also heats quickly👍
    One will not have to worry about snow tires - this puppy has all terrain tires
    The 4WD is rear wheel biased & one can choose the appropriate mode for driving conditions👍

      Those amber LED strips are just the turn signals dude. My 2020 Ford Explorer Limited has those exact amber LED strips as well. They are white when just driving around because those are the DRLs. But when you put on a turn signal, the white turns off and the amber turns on and starts blinking. They are VERY bright at night. If you put your four-way hazards on, it’s hilarious how many people ahead start to pull over! I only did it once just to test it, and I was shocked! I think it’s because they’re so bright.

      @@ml9867 Interesting. I don't think we have those in California. (This state has the craziest lighting laws for emergency vehicles! Look on any emergency vehicle when running with lights and siren on. Somewhere in the mix of all the flashy disco lights on the FRONT of the vehicle, you will find at least one steady burning (non-flashing) red light. It's a pain in the ass for companies that make public safety emergency lighting because they always have to make them "special" for CA.
      It all goes back to the horse and buggy days, and our State Legislature is awesome and really on the ball. 🤣🤣
      If I take a patrol car out for a shift, I (we) have to make sure that one steady burning red lamp works. If not, we have to place the vehicle out of service. I haven't driven any Explorer PD vehicles. I retired when we still had an all Crown Vic fleet---best cop car ever made!

    Ford has really missed an opportunity to turn the Explorer back into a credible off-roader here. I would have liked to see a larger lift, to 9" or more clearance, more off road tech like a proper locker, trail control and even better tires.

    • @ace11235
      @ace11235 3 года назад +1

      The ride height was the first thing that caught my eye and it was a disappointment considering the man was pushing the “off-road” identity of the vehicle off rip.

    • @andysmith6824
      @andysmith6824 3 года назад +2

      Just remember that it’s a salesman’s job to SELL. He will tell you EXACTLY what you’d like to hear. This is just a guess, but I think Ford did not make this a credible off-road vehicle for several fairly good reasons. First, they had the two new Ford Bronco’s coming out soon (when the 2020 Explorer was released). They are counting on HUGE SALES of both versions of the Ford Bronco. That vehicle seems to impress everyone who sees it and drives it. It’s definitely made more for off-road than the Explorer is. (I wouldn’t take my Explorer off-road, even though it has a digital inclinometer as a menu option on the driver’s dash (not on the Infotainment screen--on the driver’s dash). It also shows how many degrees left and right you are turning the wheels. It’s gimmicky for soccer moms who might run over a curb or two at the grocery store, and they might have fun saying, “We just hit 2 degrees on that curb, boys!”. LOL!!
      Another reason that I think Ford did not make the new Explorer a hardcore off-reader is because this year and next (model year 2021 and 2022) is having all sorts of off-road vehicles coming out from other manufacturers. Look at all of the new Jeeps. Jeep got serious again, and the new Jeep Grand Cherokee L is a beautiful vehicle. But it can also go off-road no problem. Oh I forgot to mention, the new Ford Bronco Sport has an optional tent thing that you can get with the car. They had it setup in the showroom and it was pretty cool. You can go to the middle of nowhere off-road and use the “cookie crumbs” option on the navigation unit, and then stop wherever you want to and set up camp because the tent actually connects to the vehicle and it all becomes one big area. With the seats down, you have a comfy bed if you put an air mattress on top, bring a pillow or two, and a sleeping bag. The side doors stay open because they open up into another “room” that is screened in from insects and flying bugs, and the doors of the vehicle plus the tent help to make a nice big room off the “master bedroom”. I have metal rods in my spine that hurt like hell if I lay down flat, so this is something I’ll never be able to do. But if you’re young and healthy, you would love the new Bronco. And no matter what SUV you purchase from Ford, they all look pretty much the same inside. Most parts are the same parts and are interchangeable with all other SUVs. At least, that was my observation. The inside of a new Ford Edge, Ford Explorer, Ford Bronco Sport and Bronco, Ford Expedition, and I’m missing one SUV that is very similar to the Edge and Explorer. What is the name of that other one? Ugh, it’s gonna drive me nuts. Come on, Andy (that’s me!), there’s the Explorer, the Edge, and the …… what? I just checked their webpage and maybe it’s the Escape? I thought it was a different one though. Anyway, look at the interiors. If someone blindfolded you and sat you down in one, you wouldn’t be able to tell right away which one you’re in. Even the $100,000 F150 top of the line model has the exact same knobs, switches, software, etc, as my Explorer Limited.
      Shop smart, and have fun! And never EVER forget that once you’ve settle on a purchase price and you’re done negotiating, you’re NOT done negotiating. Actually, it’s just beginning. When they have you wait an hour on purpose (because you just want your car and you want to get out of there, this is all done on purpose), the “business manager” is going to UPSELL, UPSELL, UPSELL. Extended warranty on the new car warranty (it’s good for 8 years!!!!! Yeah, except it’s not. Ford’s new car warranty comes with a free 3 year bumper-to-bumper warranty. The extended warranty that you buy only kicks in after the 3 years are up. So even though they tell you it’s an 8 year warranty, it’s not. It’s a 5 year warranty. Same with the pre-paid service warranty.
      I’m out of time here but just be careful with these guys. And if the salesman gets you inside and sitting down at his desk, be prepared for the “Four Square” piece of paper to come out. It’s a blank piece of paper where he draws a line down the middle going vertical, and a line down the middle going horizontal. That makes “four squares” on the piece of paper. They say it’s to make the numbers nice and easy, but why would they do that for you? They’re not there to make it easy for you--are you kidding me? LOL!!! They’re there to confuse you, and by using the four square method of selling, you are being taken for a ride. I told my salesman NO FOUR SQUARE OR I WALK. I’m trying to remember what each square is: trade-in is one, new car negotiations is another, options are another, monthly payments are the last. I think I’ve got that right. By the end of things, your head will be spinning and you’ll be tired and you’ll sign anything just to get out of there and get this over with. DO NOT BE AFRAID TO GET UP AND WALK!!!!! They need you much more than you need them.
      Okay, I’m outta here. Have fun!

      This is a huge vehicle, it needs that power and torque. That will mean the engine will often work hard, which speeds up the wear of the parts.

    Would be cool if they added a camera to the dash screen that you could move/adjust to do video calls. Which would be nice until someone crashes doing selfies & sues Ford 🙄

    They could of given it a slight lift with some off road type tires at least. It would not interfere with the other off road offerings in fords line up. Come on ford.. Not to long ago the mustang v-8 had 315hp if I recall correctly. Like 2005..... He makes it seem like recently, lol.

    If Ford had priced this at $42-$43K it would be a no brainer to take this over the Outback Wilderness any day of the week. At $48K, I can’t understand why anyone would choose this over a similarly equipped Grand Cherokee L if you need 3 rows and a little off road, or a 4Runner if you need reliability and more off road capability.

    A couple of things: This Explorer is in fact unique. Dual-pane moon roof, adaptive cruise control and a whole plethora of other bells and whistles. No power folding rear seats and no auto-dimming rear-view mirror! Somehow, Ford has taken it upon themselves to create one of the most fabulous SUVs and simultaneously omit two of the most popular options ever created. I just leased mine from Hoffman Ford in Harrisburg. Oh yeah, it's also powered by a 4-cylinder engine. To me, it just seems a little counter-intuitive with regards to some of the engineering.

    Nice truck, horrible engine choice. That weensy 4 cyl will be shotout in a few years of off road use. A V6 TT would be a much better option or at least a strong multi motor hybrid system.
