Got to be the best all rounder transistor radio available. Good looks, exceptional sensitivity, well made, plenty about for spares, lots of space to work on and marked up circuit boards ideal for the beginner in radio restoration . Brilliant .
Thanks Brother Ski. I am but a beginner... 😉 They are an exceptional radio. This one has the Elac speaker which I prefer, others like the Goodmans, but I like the clarity and tone of the Elac.
I see the name Weyrad on some components, my mum built transistor radios there 1969-1970 when the factory was the centre of town, the factory later relocated a little further out.
That's fantastic - every little bit of history helps... If you'd like to share more, (I'd like to know more!) my email is on my about me tab - viewable sadly only from a PC it seems 🙃
Nice video Paul. Good to see you back in the RUclips saddle. That Hunter Hacker is sounding good. I guess it is better to be stored 25 years than to be run hard and put away wet for the same time. It certainly is now looking much better.
Nice to be back in the YT saddle Andy - Thank You. It might have been cheap, but with a little work, it now looks the part. Storage might have helped it's chances somewhat, and the thickened dust & dirt preserved the dial face nicely.
Thanks Andrew, it took years of neglect to achieve the pattination for the Samurai dial clamps. Sadly taking the finish back, ruins the finish even more, it needs replacements really.
Thanks David - Ideas are good! - I've had something in mind for a while, but never got the chance. I went to Ratchfords (Leathercloth Supplier) in the week, and picked up a variety of materials. This was one of them!
Great stuff as always Paul. Not watched it all yet though so tbc. Continuing on and now watched it all. Sounds like the tuning cap needs sorting on AM but I really like the tweed. Yes it’s not original but sometimes if the leathercloth is damaged then a bit of a spruce up works wonders. Nice job 👍🏻
Wow, that had to be the bargain of the year for sure!! I really like the "tweedy" look. Very classy looking. Wonder how you dealt with the pitting on the trim work. That can be a real pain to clean up. I usually use a fine steel wool with Flitz Metal Polish but always like hearing how others do it. Very nicely done Paul. ATB Doug.
Thanks Doug - for the trim I used a Dremel with a wire brush attachment to get rid of the corrosion, then polished the best I could with wire wool, but the pitting is deep, so you can still tell.
Yes, like the cloth too .looks almost like something hacker might have done in the day it's done that well.they could have offered this cloth version as an alternative to rexine if they'd thought about it a bit more .maybe even a denim version?
Thanks Robert, You could have any colour of Hunter back in the day, as long as it was black... I have a Roberts I've re covered in Levi's 501 denim. Glad you like this Hacker, it's certainly a looker.
@@Codeeze my hunter isn't too bad or I'd do mine .I'm looking to acquire some rough ones in the future and I'll give a re trim a go on those .keep the vids coming paul !
I have the all leatherette/rexine version. Think I prefer the one with the wooden cheeks. Unfortunately mine didn't cost £5 though! more like £25. Working perfectly, all original components, not one single cap change - for now. Very good sound, obviously helped by the relatively large speaker. I've hooked up smaller Roberts radios to a half decent mini hi fi system speaker and the sound quality improves significantly. Great job on the tweed cabinet. In 20 years time it will confuse the Hacker collectors. I did have the idea of converting mine to all wood but not got around to it yet. Maybe one day.
Wow !! You Did a Lovely Job Covering The Hunter With That Tweed Covering Paul It Looks Super !! You Know You are a Lucky Sod 6 Radios For £30.00 Unbelievable !! You Probably Paid More For The Vishay Capacitors Than You Paid For The Flipping Hunter !! Very Nice Job Paul..Regards mike.
Thanks Mike - I have invested a lot of Vishays into the set, and re-covered it with material from Ratchfords, the original suppliers of 'Rexine'. I just wanted to do something different with this one. It must have turned out well, as Mrs Codeeze has taken an instant like to it. That never happens!
Hi Simon - Thanks! - kits aren't available per se - but get in touch via my email on my 'about me page', and I can put one together for you. ruclips.net/channel/UCwK3n7yIYtPhT1awzPyG9NQabout?view_as=subscriber
Thanks Mr Bovril - It's rare to find a set on eBay that is reasonably priced - and hens teeth to find one that has had the electrical work done. Not to mention one that's been re-covered. Yes, quite a few to come. A few show and tells, a few with electrical work, and quite a bit of test gear to go through too. All set for Winter

Ineluctably beautiful. Makes my ear lobes tingle with delight just looking at it! Thank you for sourcing!

Great job Paul. Really enjoyed the amplifier rebuild and Romeo and Juliet what’s not to love. Perfect combination. Thanks regards Chris
Thanks Chris - I do wish though that 'Fair Use' was fair... Cracking song

😊 Great job with Hacker Hunter, I wasn't expecting the tweed but it looks fantastic!
That tweedy herringbone cloth really works Paul, super choice. Love the pretty patterns in the top metal trim, like a Samurai sword :)

Fantastic Job Looks so good You have given me some ideas now Thanks Paul

29:18 Even just switched on and not back together and sounds bloody impressive.
Sounds good looks smart great job Paul !
Thanks Keith - The electricals were fine, but I was a little worried covering it - once the original finish is gone, there's no going back!

looks nice and a bargain a good friend of mine got one from a car boot sale for a fiver ! and he got the 18V powersupply with it many years ago
Thanks Foxy - A fiver doesn't normally go far these days, but they are still out there somewhere in the wild
@@Codeeze your right a fiver doesnt go far these days unless its blowing in the wind and I find it !
Very good I have 2 one just doing a video of it. was thinking of a LED light behing the tuning dial
I've played around adding LED backlighting to various radios over the years, with a moderate success, but nothing I've been happy to stick with.
It does look very pretty. How about the next one in a paisley print?
Thanks George - I have a plan for the next one whenever it comes in. Paisley might be a step too far though!
Looks fantastic!

A fivers worth of heaven in the right hands Paul 👍 Tam.
Thanks Tam. I do try 😉

Wow Paul, What time did you get to the event to get these bargains, must have been like half an hour before you went to bed lol. Great vid!.
Thanks Jeff - I was up at 4am, left at 5am, arrived at 8.30am - first in the queue... Early Bird catches the worm
just goes to show there are still bargins around .
Thanks Rob - they are out there, but harder to find for sure
eBay sellers eat your hearts out, quite a few new videos to come then, Code', I take it...here's looking forwards to them as they come.
