i gotta practice the cross behind step. it looks so good and when combined with a well executed inside out forehand, makes for some very satisfying tennis
Great video, with technical details never heard in tennis clubs. In my case, now I know why hitting an inside-out I felt always to be slower and less efficient than expected: I was doing the crossover front, and not behind. Always learn from the professionals..
No problem, really good videos as always. It would be great to see a video on forehand cross court point construction. Using placement/spin/pace to generate opponent errors and opportunities to attack. On the backhand side I'm much better at this as it's my stronger side and I hit with more variety (use short angle slice followed by a hard flat drive for example). In comparison my forehand can be a bit more predictable and the forehand is generally my opponents stronger side, so my winning percentage is lower. Getting the balance right feels much harder.
@@TopTennisTrainingOfficial I have an old fashioned continental forehand grip and struggle with changing it - are there some techniques to help increase spin?
Thanks Simon, Can you please do one for double handed backhand Cross Court only, my DH BH is always late ended up down the line, any way to time it earlier and also to produce a sharp angle cross court ? Thanks.
Thanks for this I’m a left handed player so when a righty hits a cross court FH it goes to my BH. Having this kind of shot in my arsenal will help me stay in the point by going cross court FH to FH and eventually counter with my normal cross court FH to BH.
At 10:42, you said to aim towards the middle of the court, but I cannot do that ? Should I angle my body more towards the side or is it where I aim my racquet?
My backhand was always weak but my inside out is my favorite shot. I love to hit the option 3 in the neutral stance because you can get in there very quick because you already positioned to come in.
such an acurate video , just love it , I would like to know how to push opponent back and stay more in rallies and make him frustrated but remain fresh and cover up all the court by spending least of energy and also give related practice to improve it .please explain it to me thanks bro ♥️
Try to hit the ball on the rise and move your opponents. Agassi or Djokovic style, close to the baseline, taking time away from the opponent and keeping them on a string - ruclips.net/video/nmGHCIaKOtc/видео.html
Thanks for the great lesson! I feel comfortable with inside out forehand because I can intentionally make a gap between body and ball. However I often had problem when I ran toward the right side to hit a forehand because my body easily ran into the ball too closely and feel jammed . How to avoid the problem?
Try to use the left hand on the run the judge the distance of the ball. If you imagine you were going to catch the ball with that hand, it helps you track the ball and be in a better position. And of course lots of practice! All the best Simon
This is my favorite shot, kind of a randomly natural feeling shot. I'd say if your fast enough just exaggerate it a bit in the beginning and then just step into the forehand. I would overrun my backhand a bit and just step into it like a normal forehand. But yes definitely use your off hand to measure the distance I never even thought of that until Simon mentioned it because this is my natural shot but I do that as well. Can barely hit a slice to save my life though, my mom hits one with two hands 🤣
hi Simon, I feel option 2 is the most difficult one for me. could you elaborate a bit more on the technical details of hitting a short angle inside-out forehand? racket angle and swing path etc. in general I can hit a normal short angle crosscourt forehand well, but just can't find the feelings for inside-out short angle. thanks in advance.
For the short inside-out forehand, you need to hit the ball slightly later, with the body turned more, The neutral stance can help with that, along with practice. All the best Simon
Great lesson. I play competitively on red clay in rome. Everytime I do (the jim courier thing) inside out, my strong opponents slices them right back at me. I know the onus is then to go down the line, but thats when I increase my miss hits percentage. Any thoughts?
I would use two options: 1. Go back crosscourt (inside-out) with your forehand again and again but trying to hit heavy topspin so it kicks up into the opponent, that will be hard for them to slice back effectively 2. Use your own slice to mix up play but also force them to hit up, offering you the chance to then attack with the forehand again Good luck and all the best Simon
Hi Simon. You are beyond coach, some sort of engineer as you solve problems through diagnosis. Is there any other use of cross behind step except slice and inside shot ?
Many thanks 🙏 You can also use the cross behind steps when recovering, for example, a running forehand. Your outside foot (right for right hander) finishes behind the line of your inside foot, the crossover becomes the slower option as the foot placement isn’t ideal. The cross behind can get you started, which is why Federer uses them often when the outside foot ends up behind the inside one
Hey Simon. This is a great video. I have a question to option number one. Hitting the ball high over the net with a lot of topspin. I have no problem generating a lot of topspin. Sometimes i can hit almost Nadal-like shots. They fly extremly high over the net with a lot of pace. On other days i try to hit the same kind of shot but the fly a lot lower over the net (same pace). And i don‘t feel the technical difference between these shots 🤔 Can you help me out and explain what the difference between these shots is? Thanks Keep up the great work!!
Day to day we lose and gain some feel for the ball, sometimes we can really control our shots and other days that goes. That's normal and part of the game. Racket angle and the swing path will determine much of what happens with the height/spin so I'd focus on those two elements firstly
Thanks for the answer. Next time on the court i will focus on these things. Is it possible that you will make a course especially for coaches? I made my coaching license and i would like to start working as a coach. We learned a lot about technique and tactics. But they didn‘t give us much information how to start training with complete beginners. I would be amazing to know how you work with beginners and transform them into tennis players. The progressions you use, with drills you use and all this stuff. Thanks again
Hey - this might be a niche issue, but I have a problem that is really hurting me: I serve big, but if my opponent gets the return back, I'm left with no time to prepare to hit back the return. I could use some advice on handling the first ball
It sounds like you need to focus on landing and then getting into your split step position quicker. Check out this lesson too - ruclips.net/video/UguFrKS-NfA/видео.html
