Just as feedback: we came back from Korea last week and we tried the hanu place you mentioned. it was incredible! Thank you for the tip. Also, as a tip to anyone struggling with gluten intolerance that isn't tied to celiac disease: try Trimebutine maleate from a Korean pharmacy. This is what I got there and it worked beautifully as I wasn't able to 100% avoid gluten (soy sauce is in almost everything). Didn't have any issues, which is miraculous. :)
@Xia-hu hi there, thank you so much for the tips, and really glad to hear that you enjoyed the hanwoo place! We'll pin this comment just so others can see, as I think it's helpful for a lot of people. Here is it written in Korean if anyone needs it too: 트리메부틴말레산염 All the best, and thanks again for letting us know!
Hiya folks, great video, I like the style, soundtrack, clips and more, and how you speak both English and Korean; helps learners understand pronunciation! 😊❤ As well your partner speaks Korean only in the video, even though I'm sure her English is great too. I'm going to go through the older videos you've made, can't wait! 😊 I hope your channel blows up and you can enjoy more free offers from restaurants and more, and enjoy the benefits humbly. Many thanks for the content! Would be happy to buy some merch to support you kind folks. 🎉💐 ❤😊Thank you ❤
Hey @petero7130 thank you so much! Really glad to hear that the English and Korean swapping is okay too. We normally speak Korean together, so I switch to English when we are filming because it feels like I'm addressing a mostly English audience. Really appreciate all of the kind words and support, and someday it would definitely be nice to make some cool merchandise that speaks to people who love adventure! Take care eh! 😊
Thanks for another great video guide Matt and Yujin. On another note I’ve just completed my first 6 days in Korea and Seoul. Tomorrow I go to Busan on the KTX of course with LTF in my pocket. I used the LTF itinerary for Seoul as a guide and I can say the guide enhanced my stay by at least 100%. If it wasn’t for the intense heat that LTF had eluded to in other vlogs I certainly would have done more. That leaves plenty to do next time. If anyone connected to the Korean Government sees this comment please arrange for LTF to at least be given a retainer as judging by the number of interested visitors and potential visitors on the channel. I’m sure LTF is bringing more visitors and making more happy visitors. I am one of those, You know happy visitors spend more money. I think LTF wouldn’t ask themselves, however,an offer would at least be appreciated. Further, a few thoughts for other visitors. It would be great if LTF completed the menus by providing a guide for coming in by plane. Also I tried Kakao maps and found the lesser places came up with Korean instead of English which was no help for me. I tried Google Maps which looked ok, however, some of the translations were wrong. This caused me to get lost in my first attempt at the Seoul metro. I found that NAVER map was the best for me as an English speaker. Now with some experience with the impressive Seoul public transport I feel I have achieved proficiency. I should have re studied the LTF metro guide earlier. The I would be an expert. Thanks a lot LFT from Busan I will travel to Jeju where I’ll again use your guide. Regards
@howardlee7189 wow thank you so much for the nice comment and praise Howard! Really happy to hear that you've had a good trip in Korea so far! Like you said, it's incredibly hard (almost impossible) to explore in the summertime heat, but hopefully you've been able to get a little taste of what Korea is like, and then someday definitely return in the Spring or Fall for the nicer weather! Also the tip about Naver Map is really helpful, and it's really important for others to know as well! I'm going to add a subtitle for the subway video, as I assumed that Kakao Maps would be in English for everyone but apparently it's not, so I'm going to start recommending Naver Map for everyone except for cyclists who want to know the elevation of their route (only Kakao does that). Really glad to hear that you've gotten better on the subways here, and hope you guys have an amazing trip to Busan and Jeju! All the best and take care eh!
Korean Bbq showed me how to have fun and experience joy in a meal!! The settings are casual, the service phenomenal, the food delicious and everyone is having such a good time!! Matty used to tell me that Korea is “the land of laughter” and you’ll see it here! ❤️ Thanks Matt and Yujin for another super video!❤️
@donnahollman4259 what a great way to put it Mom! ❤ Really happy you left this comment, and I think it's a very good way to summarize Korean BBQ. It doesn't matter how you dress or who you are, you are automatically welcome at a Korean barbecue restaurant, and it's going to be a good time with a lot of laughing for sure! Haha
Thank you for a wonderful BBQ video. Korean food just isn't the same outside of Korea. I miss food the most! I would love to see different region's/city's food specialties as you travel outside of Seoul and all around Korea in your van. For example: 전주비빔밥. Good luck!
@Natalie-xy7zy thanks so much for the kind words and for watching! I agree that it's hard to find the same food outside of Korea, and it's definitely one of my favourite parts of the country as well! We will definitely be trying out a ton of different regional specific foods in our van and sharing the best places we find along the way!
Hey @dericmpark8381 thanks so much for all of your continuous support for us! You have helped us out so much! Wow that's great to hear that your daughter is going to do a semester here. Check out one of those BBQ places if you are craving some great meat, and hope all goes well with the move! Take care eh!
This video couldn’t have come at a better time. Def need this before we go to Korea next month. It is daunting how many Korean bbq places there are. To know what’s good . Thankyou guys, will def be adding these places to my list! ❤
@lisama4903 really glad to hear that! There are so many amazing places, so definitely check out Naver Maps in your area and I'm sure you'll find some great places there as well! All the best with your trip here!
Watching you guys eat those BBQ made me crave for some! If you are in Hyehwa-dong area, check out 우정양꼬치 for lamb skewers with student-friendly price. Stay cool!
Haha it's definitely hard to pass by all these amazing restaurants all the time without craving it for sure! Thanks a lot for the recommendation too Thoan! Will have to check out 우정양꼬치 someday, because as I'm sure you've noticed a lot of places are getting so expensive these days! Hope you're doing well in this extremely hot weather and take care eh!
Thanks for the great tips! Especially appreciate how you point out details like what to say, when to go, and what to expect as it can be intimidating for foreign travelers like me.
Thanks so much for this guide, it's a brill video that's super informative and as others have said I also found it very useful to hear both of you talking English and Korean on my learning journey. Thank you so much for the drive link with all the translations, my flashcard app is getting healthier everyday 😅 Can't wait to visit some of these restaurants next month 🙏🏻
@joek8355 thanks so much! Really glad to hear that it was useful, and happy to hear the English and Korean together isn't too confusing too haha. All the best with your Korean studies, and hope you have an amazing time in Seoul filled with great food adventures too!
My husband and I are going to Seoul for the first time next week, and ordering/eating at restaurants has been one thing that has made me nervous. Not necessarily stressed about ordering from a menu since Papago is great, but more so nervous about not knowing how ordering works at different restaurants. Thank you for showing what to expect so I can feel more confident to try a place that isn’t just ordering on a kiosk 😊
@erin470 thanks so much! And so glad to hear that we could show a little bit of the experience. Definitely don't worry too much, as most people will be super friendly and accommodating even if you don't know exactly what you're doing. A little smile goes a lot way for sure! Hope you guys have an amazing trip to Seoul, the weather is going to be absolutely perfect!
Wow, looks like you are getting a lot more views. I am glad more people are enjoying your great work. I want everyone to subscribe and support you two !
@hashtag-dreamer it's been mind blowing to be honest! We went for over 2 years getting 100-300 views per video, so we are also quite surprised! Really appreciate your kind words and support!
Greatly appreciate your channel and content - keep it up! One other term which you could add to your BBQ Vocabulary Guide is Grilled Clams/Seafood - Jogae-Gui / Jogaegui (조개구이). I love all Korean BBQ but fresh Jogae-Gui is my favourite! Normally it's best/freshest near the coast. Some places offer fixed price/all you can eat, other places charge based on what you order (which can quickly add up if you aren't careful). Hope we get to see you try some as you travel to Busan and other coastal spots in your van. Safe travels!
@dschoonaert thanks so much for watching and for the kind words! Also really appreciate the information! Will add 조개구이 to the list, as that's a really great bbq dish for people to try as well. All the best eh!
We went to a Skewer restaurant in Yangpyeong and when I walked in and saw the rottesserie table I knew exactly what I was getting into, I have a rottesserie BBQ and it's a fun way to eat. 🤸🏿
@MarkOliver-p4i it's so much fun to eat skewers that way eh! You don't have to worry about burning one side while you get distracted, and I think it cooks it really nice too!
That looks incredible yummy! I made the mistake of watching this video on an empty stomach. 🙃 Now I have eaten dinner and capable of focusing on writing this comment. 😊 Thank for another informative video! Looking forward to seeing the finished van. 🚐 I hope you will get cooler weather soon. Have a lovely week and take care! 🌞🍀🇰🇷
@misscaroline542 haha watching food videos on an empty stomach is almost torture eh! Happy you got some food in you, and thanks so much for all of your nice words and support! Have an amazing week! 😊
Hello, new viewer here, i enjoyed your channel and looking forward to see you venture on your new home. Definitely will wait for your new video everytime. Aja!
@Mudskipper9876 hahaha McDonald's breakfast hits the spot sometimes, but you're right it can't quite compare with a nice BBQ meal! 😁 Thanks so much for all your kind words, hope all is well and take care!
funnily enough the algorithm recommended me the 'eating alone' video earlier today so I had just watched that then this popped up! Across both videos as always, very insightful tips, cheers
@BasicStealthcamping thanks a lot for watching and for all of your support! By the way there are amazing BBQ restaurants all throughout the country, and after a long day on the bike I think you can go through 2 servings no problem (there won't be any "eating alone" places there). It's the best way to finish a ride for sure!
Thanks so much @classickdramaclips! That's really humbling to hear, and really appreciate you watching our videos! I replied earlier so I copied that and pasted below, but in addition I'll tell you that the lens is the most important, so I use a 24-70 f2.8 lens on my S5II for the barbecue shots, and I think it enhances them a little bit! We use three main cameras: 1) DJI Action 4 - every shot of us talking to the camera and walking around 2) Sony ZV-1 - stationary shots for videos like this where we have to pack really light 3) Panasonic S5II - this is a more professional camera, but it's a lot bigger so we use it mainly for our guide videos and also the random adventure videos for the stationary footage (not walking or vlog shots)
@ky6324 it looks super cool eh! You can buy them in Korea for like $60 USD link.coupang.com/a/bOqVD9 so it would be awesome to make rice like that every day!
I found your channel just last week and have binged almost all your videos! Your guides are so informative and well thought out! I can’t wait for my Korea trip in March!! Can I ask for advice on a 8 day trip to Seoul and Jeju? Is this possible? And if so, how should we plan it and how can we buy tickets to Jeju from Seoul? Or would Nami Island be better to go to vs going to Jeju island?
@cellysabundantlife5062 wow thank you so much for watching our videos! Really happy to hear there was some helpful information too! 8 days will be pushing it I think to see Seoul and Jeju if it's your first time. You would probably have to explore mostly Northern Seoul (Hongdae, Myeongdong, Namsan, Namdaemun, Gwanghwamun, Gyeongbokgung, Changdeokgung) for about 4 nights, then fly to Jeju and spend 2 nights there, fly back to Seoul and spend the last night before going back. You can check flights on Google Flights or Skyscanner to get to Jeju. You can easily get to Nami Island and back to Seoul in one day, so that might be a better option, but definitely do some research on Nami Island before going to make sure it's somewhere you want to go.
Hi Matt, I was wondering u be keen to do a video on payment methods in Korea? Like youtrip cards, credit cards n t-money vs cash... just a suggestion for ur consideration. Thank you for all ur awesome videos that are ao authentic and sincere! Thanks!😊
Hello @buttlebe thank you so much! I marked down your idea as a potential future idea, and just as a summary you can use credit cards almost everywhere, T-money is best used for transportation and can be used at convenience stores the same as using cash, and cash can still be used almost everywhere except buses as far as I'm aware. I've never heard of Youtrip cards, but apparently it can be used in Korea as well.
@blackbelt2000 hahaha hope you can eat some good BBQ soon! I don't know where you live but I heard it's blowing up in a lot of places outside of Korea too.
@doug2731 this is a very good point. The samgyeopsal place in this video is pretty quiet, and as a plus it hasn't gained much popularity yet so it's been relatively empty both times we've been there.
Hi there, thank you for your great vlogs. I am foreigner living in Seoul. I love sightseeing. Do you have any good places near Seoul for the upcoming Chuseok ?
@tienanhnguyen1546 thank you so much! During Chuseok you can visit all of the palaces for free so it's a good time to check them out. If you haven't walked along Hwaseong Fortress Wall in Suwon I'd recommend that too, as it has some really nice views of Suwon and it's a great walk!
Very interesting video. I grew up in Korea in the 80's and back then, almost all meat was grilled on 연탄 or coal cylinder. 연탄 불고기, or coal beef bulgogi was very common BBQ and normally grilled before serving. I lived in Korea for a year back in early 2000's and recently revisited and it was very hard to find.. you can't beat the taste of Korean beef cooked over 연탄.
@jhchooo 연탄불고기 is amazing! It's been a while since I've had it, but I'm craving some now. You're definitely right that a lot of 불고기 places have converted to gas burners instead, and it has a completely different flavour/texture.
I travel Solo, how am I supposed to eat those huge servings. I watched already your video about Solo eating in SK, but I want to try that Hanwoo place. I will be in SK this October, thanks
@girleyborer472 the Hanwoo place is really popular in that neighbourhood so they only let groups of 2 or more in unfortunately (or people who can eat 500g could go in). If you really want to try hanwoo alone, I've heard you can do it at Majang Meat Market here naver.me/FyenAZeB but I've never been there before so I can't vouch for it personally.
@marcomorales920 I think Jinro (blueish green bottle with the frog) is the one I'd recommend to most people. Sae-ro is good too, and try out Daesun if you're in Busan. Keep in mind soju doesn't really taste "good" in my opinion, but if you have it lots of times you get used to it, and then you can't have anything else with barbecue haha. I like the flavour of makgeolli a lot more as well, but it doesn't have that edgy kick to it that soju has, so I prefer makgeolli with mellower foods like jeon or samgyetang.
@AngByahero if you can eat 2 servings (300g) I'm sure they will be fine with someone eating alone. They most likely won't let you order 1 serving though.
Thanks for the tips! At the chicken grill place, are the chicken pieces already marinated in soy sauce? I'm gluten intolerant and soy sauce in Korea in restaurants almost always contains wheat :( do you think it is possible to ask for unmarinated meat?
@Xia-hu unfortunately I don't think it's possible to order the chicken without it being marinated. You could try copy and pasting this and showing it to them as see what they say, but I wouldn't go far out of your way to try as I think it might be difficult. 저는 숯불닭갈비 먹어 보고 싶은데 알레르기 때문에 간장이나 다른 양념으로 만든 고기를 못 먹어요. 혹시 양념 아예 없는 닭갈비를 주문할 수 있을까요? "I want to try the sut-bul dak-galbi, but because of my allergies I can't eat meat marinated in soy sauce or other seasonings. It it possible to order the dak-galbi that's not marinated at all?" (I mention you have an allergy, because there's a good chance they won't know what it means if you say you are gluten intolerant because that's not a common thing for people to know about here)
@buttlebe in Myeongdong all of the Hanwoo places I've seen are about 3x as expensive as the restaurant we went to so I haven't been and can't recommend anything. Naver Blogs seem to recommend this place: naver.me/Ga2NtDQy I've actually never seen a place as cheap/good as the one in this video before anywhere in Seoul.
@@buttlebe I think it's worth the trip! Do a little search for the Korean Majang Meat Market as well. It's a full on hanwoo market that's a bit closer to Myeongdong, but I've never been there so I can't comment on if it's better or not.
@@haseebali1234 there are a lot of Halal places in Itaewon including a Korean restaurant with a lot of different meals. g.co/kgs/wABN8qC When I have more time I want to make a guide video for Halal/Vegetarians.
I'm always excited when there's a new video, it's such a treat to see you both take us through the city. The information you share is so thorough, I feel like I am next to you and you have read my mind for any questions I may have in the situation. Are you on Instagram? Besides Naver, are there other apps for restaurant recommendation? Thank you so much. And all the best in your next adventure. I know you guys will do great~!!! 🙏💪
@lovesbeautiful1004 thank you so much for watching and for the kind words! Really glad to hear that the videos are a bit helpful! We don't use Instagram these days, and for restaurant recommendations you can use Naver Blogs as well blog.naver.com but it's all in Korean so you will need to use Google Translate or something on Google Chrome if you can't read/write. Google Maps and TripAdvisor are used a lot by tourists here but not really that much by Koreans (especially TripAdvisor) to be honest.

@fernandoverzosa7100 next time we are in Busan we will check out the drone show and also introduce more of Gwangalli Beach!
I'm watching you eat delicious dinners while eating crappy McDonald's breakfast. Really enjoyed this video. Looking forward to van life content.
@Mudskipper9876 hahaha McDonald's breakfast hits the spot sometimes, but you're right it can't quite compare with a nice BBQ meal! 😁 Thanks so much for all your kind words, hope all is well and take care!
Definitely bookmarking this! Thanks for the recs!
Thank you so much, @Rachel-sv9pq! Hope you have a lovely day 😊🙏
funnily enough the algorithm recommended me the 'eating alone' video earlier today so I had just watched that then this popped up!
@@lostthenfound sounds perfect! cheers. good luck with the transition to vanlife!
The algorithm did this for me too. It’s cool and totally awaiting their van build.
@@AmericanAdventuresInJapan thank you so much! As of 9/2 we are still waiting for our van, but we will film a tour as soon as we get it!

@joegracey hope you can meet someone as well!
Thanks you so much

I love your videos @Lost Then Found. Can you make a video that show where Halal food can be found?
@@mohamedfaizalosman6669 thank you so much! Will try and do a video for people with food restrictions and Halal food will be included!
Great video Matt and yujin…great video quality on my big screen…what camera are u using? Living vicariously thru ur videos…
We use three main cameras:
1) DJI Action 4 - every shot of us talking to the camera and walking around
2) Sony ZV-1 - stationary shots for videos like this where we have to pack really light
3) Panasonic S5II - this is a more professional camera, but it's a lot bigger so we use it mainly for our guide videos and also the random adventure videos for the stationary footage (not walking or vlog shots)
4:39 That tiny pressure rice cooker looks very steampunk! :)

@user-jm9ep3zp5g hahaha hope you found some good BBQ! It's hard to sit through food videos sometimes.
Thanks so much for ur kind reply and advice. U are always so kind and awesome! I look forward to your channel hitting a 100k subscribers soon! 😊
@@buttlebe thank you so much! Haha 100k would be pretty insane for sure. Maybe we can get there someday!
me eating my sad piece of pizza while watching this video is textbook food envy. 🤤
@blackbelt2000 hahaha hope you can eat some good BBQ soon! I don't know where you live but I heard it's blowing up in a lot of places outside of Korea too.

Most samgyeopsal places are crowded, cramped, and filled with noisy ajummas. That first place looked like a refreshing change of pace.
@doug2731 this is a very good point. The samgyeopsal place in this video is pretty quiet, and as a plus it hasn't gained much popularity yet so it's been relatively empty both times we've been there.
Perfect!
Thanks a lot for your support! Have a nice day 😊🙏
Hi there, thank you for your great vlogs.
Is there a brand of Soju you recommend? I tried some and wasn't sure about it. But we have tried Makgeolli and really like that.
The first samgyupsal bistro you went to, does it allow dine in for one?
@AngByahero if you can eat 2 servings (300g) I'm sure they will be fine with someone eating alone. They most likely won't let you order 1 serving though.
May I know if the Hanwoo is near the guro station exit? Thanks!
@buttlebe it's not too far away from Guro Digital Complex Station (구로디지털단지역) exit 1 or 6. Not Guro Station just so you know.
God bless and be safe.. 2nd
Thanks a lot for your support! Hope you're doing well, too! Have a wonderful day 😊🙏
Thanks for the tips!
It it possible to order the dak-galbi that's not marinated at all?"
(I mention you have an allergy, because there's a good chance they won't know what it means if you say you are gluten intolerant because that's not a common thing for people to know about here)

@lostthenfound You're welcome! I appreciate it, and I hope you have a wonderful day too!
Any gd Hanwoo in myeongdong?
@buttlebe in Myeongdong all of the Hanwoo places I've seen are about 3x as expensive as the restaurant we went to so I haven't been and can't recommend anything. Naver Blogs seem to recommend this place: naver.me/Ga2NtDQy
I've actually never seen a place as cheap/good as the one in this video before anywhere in Seoul.
@lostthenfound 😊 I will visit this place but just that its far from our hotel. Thank you!
@@buttlebe I think it's worth the trip! Do a little search for the Korean Majang Meat Market as well. It's a full on hanwoo market that's a bit closer to Myeongdong, but I've never been there so I can't comment on if it's better or not.
First!
