Precioso trabajo, hermoso lugar. Saludos desde Argentina🇦🇷
Ash + clay can become like a cement. But the scientist burned it [ash and clay] the 2nd time. But, the heat from the sun is the same overtime/ in a period of time.
Heating the rock with the fire and then rapidly cooling it with the water can cause cracks to form or expand from thermal shock. Those cracks can be used to break off big slabs of rock with the chisels then. I don’t think his fires were big enough or there long enough to really heat the rock that much but as a sort of example of what could be done it worked.

Why the fire at first.?

I think if I was to put this much time and effort in, I would have to make it a little bigger so I could be comfortable in it.
Your idea is very good thanks my good friend.
