    My dad only had about 20 classical records, and this was one. I discovered it after it sat on a shelf for years. It's one of my favorites.

    Quel jeu!!! Heifetz accompagné par Munch, avec une qualité d'écoute inimaginable il y a seulement 20 ans!!! Formidable, on dirait que ça a été enregistré hier!

      Fantastic although Gil Shaham at Summerfield in la Jolla might be more beautiful.

      Heifetz was obviously a phenomenon. But there are others who are very close and who had a different sound and made different musical choices. I personally prefer Zino Francescatti's recording with Dmitri Mitropoulos. It is as well played as this and a more sensitive in some of the lyrical moments. Janine Jansen also plays this concerto very well. And David Oistrakh and Leonid Kogan also must be heard in this music.

      My father was a violinist with the NY Philharmonic during the Heifetz era. To him, there was no one in the same category as Mr. Heifetz. He heard everyone of that era, and admired many of them. I had this recording when I was a kid, and would listen to it over and over again.

    I hear a little from his ballet to come; Cinderella (opus 87) in this piece, especially the last movement. This concerto is opus 63.

      Both are correct! Plus the first movement has a hint to the film music for Alexander Nevsky op.78

    There are those who use the violin to play music, and those who use music to play the violin. Who is Heifetz....the first or the latter?

    • @nidurnevets
      @nidurnevets Год назад

      I think he thought of it as playing the violin to play music, though some thought it was the other way around. My father, a violinist in a major symphony heard him live several times, and thought that he was the greatest of them all. He didn't necessarily agree with all of his interpretations, however.
