    Thanks to videos like yours, I can keep my car out of a shop! Don’t get me wrong, if there was something I couldn’t diagnose myself, I would most certainly take it to someone like you…if we had one around here 🤔

    Thank you so much for this video! It is helping me figure out a similar low boost problem that I need to ask for help with...I have two TDI Beetles - a 1999 and a 2002.
    1999 TDI Beetle - Low power and occasional "limp mode" experienced when warmed up good and on steep mountain climbs (Blue Ridge Parkway area in NC)...turn car off and back on, and turbo power is restored but not full power. Car has 285K, new MAF last year, cleaned intake a year ago and did the EGR / Cooler delete, timing belt kit etc.
    VCDS reports code 17958 - Charge Pressure P1550 - 35-10 Control Deviation - Intermittent - It doesn't say positive or negative deviation. MAF numbers look good on VCDS - 450-900 and no MAF codes showing.
    There is a pronounced "wooshing" sound coming from the front dash area when accelerating that changes in relation engine RPM under load but can't reproduce it in the shop. The wooshing noise stops when in "limp mode", so I think I am hearing the boost leak out of the system when driving but can't figure out from where? I've visually inspected the boost pipes and removed/resealed the block-off plate from the EGR delete hoping that would cure it (it was warped a bit). Can the turbo housing itself leak? I've swapped a known good N75, replaced the vacuum lines, vac pressure at the N75 and raw (15-18 range on the MityVac gauge); the turbo actuator holds vacuum at 20 just fine. The turbo actuator moves smoothly during the N75 test and also when manually pressurized from MityVac. I tried by passing the N75 and putting vacuum direct to the actuator - no change. I imagine the turbo could use a cleaning but am trying to figure out how to get the turbo to boost while sitting in the shop so I can search under the hood to find the leak? Can you use MityVac to force the turbo to boost without putting the car under load going down the road or is there some other way to force boost for diagnostics? I wish I could paste the VCDS graph here in the post -it clearly shows some boost, but the system is not able to produce as much boost as specified. In VCDS, the Boost Specified graph line is at approx 6.5 bars from the baseline on the vertical scale while the Actual Boost lags a block behind and only reaches about 4.8 bars on the graph - almost 2 full bars below specified boost. Does anyone know how to make boost happen while in the shop to diagnose the boost leak? Thank you all for your help!

    Have you ever considered teaching nights at a trade school? You have a talent for explaining things and demonstrating the logical diagnostic process.

    Well done on the diag! The turbo vanes are most likely a bit sticky too, as it's probably been driven with a bad MAF sensor for a while. The yellow paint marker circle on the old MAF most likely means it was from a junkyard.

      I checked for free movement of the actuator and vanes as I stated in the video.

    Thank you for sharing your obvious skills with us. I wanted to get your thoughts on the issues on my recently purchased 2011 Audi A3 2.0 TDI. These diesel gate cars seemed to be a good buy with a supposedly great warranty. I now find myself with a car with a DPF filter code, a EGR code, hydra lock issues and coolant fan issues. The Audi dealership says warranty won’t cover them because the codes are “intermittent”. I know someone like you could fix these issues. Audi, however requires a Audi dealership for warranty repairs. The car is running well at the present time however. I know that’s a big can of worms, but I thought you might have dealt with Audi or have any suggestions . Again, thank you for your videos.

    Question on when the computer is "commanding" boost - Is that input (green line on the graph) from the throttle pedal?

    • @CoolAirVw
      @CoolAirVw  Год назад

      No. It is a command from the PCM of the actual amount of boost the computer desires.

    Hey, I'm chasing a low boost code p0299 on my 2004 BEW that is intermittent (sometimes I can drive for days before it goes into limp mode) just wondering if you or anyone else has had the same issue and what would be some of the first things you'd check. Thanks in advance

    • @CoolAirVw
      @CoolAirVw  2 года назад +1

      you have to graph it to see what is happening. You might see that its sticking intermittently. If so you have a sticking vnt or solenoid. Other videos show process to identify that stuff. If overboosts constantly but only triggers the code when you drive it under certain circumstances then you may need to adjust your actuator.

    Hey!
    i have 2004 b5.5 and it has no power, when accelerating it makes whoosh sound. can it be boost pipe leak?

    • @CoolAirVw
      @CoolAirVw  2 года назад +1

      Yes,(but it can be other stuff also. Obviously check the whole system. Have a helper rev the engine while you listen to identify the issue. Check the lower pipe, sort of shaped like an "S" coming off the turbo, and the elbow pipe coming right off the intake (near firewall). These can have small slits in them that are hard to identify.

      what you are saying simply means you have a trouble code. 1st step would be to check for trouble codes., After you get the code, watch the videos that apply to that code.

    Would you think a clogged intake would cause a Low boost condition? for a guy with out VagCom, and some experience with Tdi's is it worth swapping the MAF first?

    • @CoolAirVw
      @CoolAirVw  2 года назад +1

      It causes reduced airflow so the computer injects less fuel so it makes less power. Might be worth swapping out maf, but dont fall for the commonly repeated ignorance on the internet of "unplug it as a test". I swear I think MAF companies released that rumor to sell more sensors! :) What year tdi you got?

      The one in question I just bought. Its BONE STOCK, 2 owner 425k. Literally looks like its never been touched. 4 Timing belts, two clutches so thats a good thing. But it just lags, and chugs. I should note, the turbo can be heard trying to spool, and no visual or audible hissing/vaccum boost leaks. Planning on pulling the egr elbow rubber off and taking a look in there. Luckily, the car came with an extra turbo/intake/egr system that seems good. Total score for 3500 in todays market.
