Sorry to all waiting for my follow-up ride impression video. I was swamped the end of summer/fall and have been travelling. I will definitely get this video out, even it's on snow covered trails! But I can say that the bike continues to impress me. I've tweaked some of the motor setting using the Bafang Go+ app and dialed in the startup, assist level settings etc. and it has an even better feel now. The one slight niggle is a small clunk noise from the M820 motor when going down some chunky stuff. I've read this is common on some M820's but not all. I will over the winter pull the motor to grease it etc. and will video that as well. I also plan to build a DIY lightweight, smaller capacity battery over the winter. Stay tuned... both this frame and motor are definitely worth it!
Hi, can you share a review about the bike? what about the power of the m820 motor, the range of this battery, etc? Thanks for all the info you have shared.
doing your own DIY eMTB (or any bike for that matter) is not everyone.... but it sure is very rewarding when complete... I've built all my bikes from china frames (eMTB, MTB, road and Gravel) - I did my own painting, designed my own bespoke decals etc... Loved it... but it was at times, stressful!! Biggest stress I always find is dealing with the Chinese companies and then the shipping!! U need ALOT of patience & understanding...but as I said, when it's all complete... wow.. and especially if you have done the whole process so that you own 1 of a kind...(for me.. that's what counts!) - and usually after the build and you ride it.. U need to tweak some things... like I bought a different display in the end... and I'm gonna change the cassette and chainring again as not happy with what i had on it....... but all in all.... for the guys/gals out there who love to build stuff.... IT'S FANTASTIC!!
I agree 100%. It's like you have your own bike brand - spec'd the exact way you want. And sourcing from China is what all the big name brands do as well, so essentially you're doing the same thing rather than just being the end consumer. Very rewarding, but you do need patience as this does take time
Yup, I even got shirts made (and shorts) to match the colour of my bike and the decals… (I’m a road and eMTB guide here) - I wasn’t totally happy with the paint job on my eMTB… as after I put the clear coat on the wind picked up (I done it outdoors!!) but then again.. it’s unique! And with my name Anarchy MTB guiding and I have ANARCHY (but in an anagram) as my decals.. well.. I don’t think a nice shiny perfect spray job would’ve fitted! So it turned out brilliant!! 😂 - then I came off it a few times.. so it’s got the normal scratches etc.. I only sourced the frame, BAFANG M510 motor, bars and wheelset from China.. I went for Rockshox suspension..and dropper… and decided on Shimano Deore m5000 (😮although I have had plenty of zitto etc etc cassettes on other builds and all good) and I went for Magura MT5 brakes.. whole build cost me approx €3k… so well happy… and even happier that no one else is riding this exact bike!! Haha..
the biggest issue for me with the chinese company was warranty claim specially my bafang motor. The controller gave up after 500km. They blamed on me and had to pay for the part. Then the battery failed and had to solder new BMS. Also paid for it.
@@Shaundi1-l4eI hear u.. I had same issues… they did send me another frame, but when my battery packed in, they dragged their heals.. eventually sending me new BMS.. but was impossible to replace as wen I opened up that battery, whoever had done it originally it had black rubber melted over all the terminals and solder points! I had already ordered a whole new battery from a guy on AliExpress.. and so far so good!! And if truth be known, I had a serious fall on the bike (almost killed me!) so I reckon it must’ve been that fall that fecked up the original battery anyways… so, I really cannot complain! I am still tweaking this DIY eMTB..but love it!!
Good job, looks great. I have a gravel bike with the older M800 motor and flirting with idea to build a hard tail plus bike with M410 or M510. Although I already have 3 analog mountain bikes and build Ibis Mojo 3 last year. But you can't have too many bikes 😂
Like luxury brands ripping people off, cotton is cotton, steal is steal and glass is glass. People are programmed to just pay more and stay into debt. All these companies in the states use the same factories in China to make the same parts, they are just brand their names on them. My only concern about bike's is the batteries, to make sure you buy good ones and that the chargers are not fault in over charging the batterie's. Other than that, same bikes and price you pay are the actual price the bikes should be selling for in the first place. Very nice bike for sure, man I like the cables I don't like cables passiing via my frame at all, super clean up there. will check it out.
thank you! I made the stickers myself. Designed them mostly using Inkscape and then had them printed by this company tonatelier.ca/product/uv-dtf-sticker-by-size/. It was super cheap... they are in Canada but I'm sure you can find this type of service anywhere

Hi, I'm trying to source the chainring spider lockring (that you show in this video). But I can't find it on AliExpress, or anywhere else. I would really appreciate it if you could let me know you got yours from? Thank you Richard
That spider adapter came with my motor. I read that some motors come with one and some have a fixed chainring. Not sure where you can get one if not on Aliexpress. Maybe contact who you ordered your motor from?
So looking at the costs and spending right so majority of the cost was buying from the frame manufacturer? ($2,400 cad ish before tax?) Did they supply along with frame, motor and battery all the sensor and display that you put on or is that purchased elsewhere?

I've had zero issues with the frame. No service was needed but the first thing I did when I received the frame was to remove the pivot bolts and add loctite to them just as an extra bit of security
Hard to say as this frame has only recently been released. But the manufacturer is reputable and has been making frames for a long time. those bikes are a different class... way more torque but also way heavier. So can't really compare directly... the Luna's will certainly climb with much less effort (almost motorbike-like). This frame and motor are in the lightweight class. But the nice thing about this combo (Bafang M820 motor and CEF50 frame) is that it is lightweight and nimble but still has quite a bit of torque. You'll work a bit more going uphill but overall the bike is much more playful than a full fat, heavier eMTB
@@dualincomenokids4712 thanks for the reply! I have ridden briefly on dirt on a friend's Levo SL, I was surprised by the torque it has and like what u said it still feels lightweight and nimble. 75Nm is less than half of the BBSHD's 160Nm, although it does weigh more than double the M820. Another way to say it is that the frame is proprietary and worthless without an M820 battery, too, I suspect. If possible, I recommend replacing the cluster with a Rohloff Speedhub IGH. Mid-drives want a straight chain line. I skipped around but didn't hear anything about a battery. That's one of the worst frame geometries I have seen for battery storage.
