Who do you think won? Which camera test and comparison do you want to see next?
iPhone XS max against Huawei p20 pro
I don't think either won. Both are really great cameras. At this point, I think people should just buy the phone they like. If I absolutely had to pick a winner, I'd pick the iPhone. It seems to just barely edge out on image stabilization. I'm ready to see the difference between the XS and XR. I know the XS will be better... but will it be $250 better?
Danny Winget The IPhone Xs Max 😍🤞🏽
I prefer galaxy Note 9.
Can you compare iPhone xs max and Huawei P20 Pro?
Good stuff and completely agree with you. Still love the Note 9 a little more overall as a phone though.
you 100% right. I think if people really want to get best video out of smartphone they need to use a special apps and do editing after all. But overall what you can do with note 9 is amazing including edit images and apply mask in editing with s-pen.
I like the resolution of the note 9 and the colors of the max
Same here, but the note 9 can get a software upgrade while the iPhone max is stuck with last gen camera.
iPhone X’s can get a software update too. Stop trying to make Samsung has a bigger advantage.
you mean the sharpness not the resolution
@@theluckychosn165 software not hardware, so they're still going to be limited. LoL, its just last year's model nothing big. I just like both hardware & software to be updated on my upgraded phone. It doesn't mean it's BETTER 😉
@@catboy3471 of course not 👍
The Note 9 looks better.
I don't blame that decision! It depends on what you like when it comes to processing but technically when it comes to Dynamic Range and overall image I felt the iPhone XS Max was better. Both awesome though!
That’s really an one-sided view. Sounds like you are paid by Samsung or something...
I'm using Samsung but I gotta say in this comparison the new iPhone has more better photos than the Note9, especially with the accurate exposure.
Take your fanboy goggles off then look again
Give me your address i am ordering you a pair of thick glasses.
Pure awesomeness Danny! Appreciate your work. I'll take the Note 9 strictly bc of having the versatility of a comprehensive pro mode with different f-stops & settings, etc...
I cant hate on that at all. Both great cameras. Pro mode is dope.
@@dannywinget Samsung Is winner
Best comparison video on the Note 9 and iPhone Xs Max! Also nice shirt 😉
Shirt is 🔥
Danny Winget Thanks for the support bro!
Have you tried the iPhone XS Max? I saw your note 9 footage and it was great I'm wondering your thoughts on how they compare.
IPhones low light images can be edited to get the look of note 9 but..in daylight note 9 images aren't editable right?? 😂😂😂😂 Apple ship. 😂
I'm watching this on my Note 9 and have to admit, based on this comparison the XS max has a slight edge. Neither phones are bad overall and it's testament to how great phone cameras are these days.
Stfu you isheep. I bet you're watching on an iphone.
@@gunslinger9786 🤣🤣
I agree with it all besides low light shots. I think the note 9 looks way better. Thanks for this. Great job.
Thanks 🙏 Yeah low light does go back and forth so I understand that decision. Thanks for watching!
The XS max is better overall and especially in low light.
You need your eyes checked 😂
Go update your prescription
I agree with goodlight iphone are better... But at lowlight definitely better on note 9...you all r iSheepz
Front camera iphone wins - rear camera : both look great.
Note 9 blows away iPhone x in low light.
Blows away is not a good term. They are both very close. Both very different. Once again it all comes down to personal preference besides the noise level. The Note 9 does do that better. The rest is debatable.
I agree on low light conditions but iPhone Xs max did a great job overall.
Danny sounded like you favored the iPhone XS Max in lowlight imo that's not what other reviewers have said yes iPhone max beats the Note 9 in most cases but lowlight isn't one of them.
Lmao it’s far from blowing away it’s own shit not mention iPhone XS
😂iPhone X was an old phone. Why run away from xs max
I agree with everything you said in the vid. The dynamic range on Samsung phones this yr is terrible. I hope they fix this in a future update. Both cameras are great and its next to impossible to pick one over the other. During this age, cameras honestly isnt a deciding factor of which phone to buy because the gap is just too marginal. Even mid range phones are doing great. Good vid and hope to see more content from you soon.
👊
Biggest issue with note 9 snapdragon version is it cant do 4k 60fps longer than 5 mins without restarting the video...
@@TripleAceAAA what about the exynose version

@@canwehitSubswithoutvideo-ic7nf 😂
I think it's pretty clear the iPhone wins daylight pictures with it's image processing and dynamic range and the Note 9 wins in the low light shots with it's aperture.
Thanks for the comparison. Thank God for competition. Competition gives each company a reason to Innovate
💯
True Story!
You are trying your best for that Apple invite....
Al Diggidi or simply iphone xs has better camera this year. Even supersaf who is a huge android bias complemented iphone xs. Deal with it. Stop being so bitter. Pixel 3 will likely beat both cameras anyway.
Not true. Apple loses a lot on the channel.
Not nearly enough, it clearly lost the low light comparison but you gave it the slight edge.
Sergio Velasco it clearly won the low light the colors on the note is horrendous especially them skin tones
But hurt Android bitches all over the place
Danke, Danny, this is a great review and it is helpful to see the photos side by side. Wish there would be smaller devices too, like the iPhone SE that fits nicely into jeans pockets.
Too close. They're both good. I prefer saturation and brighter images but the iPhone did a really good job, absolutely killed it in dynamic range. but in low light I feel the note 9 was slightly better and I love the contrast it brings as well. Some people will look at an image and would go with a more pleasing image but some will go with balanced, true to life pics so really it's just personal preference. Overall, I think the iPhone is slightly better
The Iphone looks washed out in alot of pictures. It tries to improve the dynamic range but the Note looks better with more contrast. In very bright scenarios though the XS does have slightly better hdr but doesn't always get it right.
LOL washed out. You mean even lighting across the picture. And the color and contrast are not over processed like the note 9. Iphone Xs did better this year, try again next year.
Songsource Yeah i have to give it to apple. To a true photographer, I personally think it would be better to choose the xs because it is just a lot more natural.
I guess people that say the iPhone pictures look 'washed out' would also hate the output from DSLR cameras. Because they also have more dynamic range and flatter, less saturated looking images.
The thing is, you could always boost the contrast a bit after taking the photo. But blown out highlights or crushed shadows can not be fixed afterwards. That's why I feel the Xs is the better camera.
The overboosted shadows are too much. The Note 9 uses more contrast in a way that just looks better off the phone. You can always go in later and boost the shadows on the Note 9s image afterwards. The Note 9 also has crisper footage as well. Try again.
1:31 The Iphone image looks soft, out of focus, and again washed out
1:26 The Iphone is crushing the shadows
2:33 Iphone image looks flat out fake
2:48 Iphone image looks hazy and overexposed.
3:59 Iphone crushes shadows on the bottom part of the image.
Not saying the Iphone camera is better or worse. It does dynamic range really well, I'll give it that but its not much of a night and day difference between the two.
+Simon Strother
1:31 Not much of a difference really. The Note maybe uses slightly more artificial sharpness and contrast, but you could easily get the iPhone shot to look like that with minor tweaks
1:26 Pretty similar looking in my opinion. I find your argument that the iPhone is crushing the shadows a bit strange when you praise the Note when it's doing the same thing. Going by your standard for how you judge the iPhone shots, I guess you should for this image conclude that the Note is 'washed out' because the shadows look slightly less deep. How objective are you?
2:33 A bit too saturated on both actually. On the iPhone the highlights remain green, while on the Note they go to yellow. No real winner here.
2:48 Certainly not overexposed. The way the sun looks trough the clouds look more appealing to me on the iPhone shot.
3:59 Again looks very similar. But why are you complaining about the shadows that really look virtually identical on both and not the more 'washed out' looking sky on the Note? You seem very biased.
You do realize the spot between the parking meter is in the background, right?
Yes but it’s still jacked regardless.
Note 9 looks and sounds better!!!
Hopefully you know this is really a one-sided view! To say it like that just doesn’t make sense. As the creator of the video explains there is many different categories and by far none of these phones win all categories. Sorry but please stay objective 🤦🏼♂️
@@Phonognomiks I stayed objective... I mean that for my opinion the note 9 sound and looks better.
Ofcourse it's just my own opinion...

1:10 - Don't _sell_ the average consumer short.
Many people understand how to set their camera correctly, especially if they pay $1K for it.
Use *Pro Mode* and adjust as best you can for each shot - that's what the *_average_* consumer wants to know - not that you only can shoot in auto mode.
It's OK to include a few auto mode shots so we know whether or not it provides a good result *but* don't have the majority of the shots auto-to-auto - that tells us nothing about why we spent a thou and brings into question the photographer's skill.
From computers to TV testing, *no one* leaves it in auto mode and says: "This is what you get".
I don’t sell them short. Almost average consumers don’t even touch the Pro Mode. I just know this by experience. I worked at a Hospital with thousands of healthcare workers and they had zero idea Pro mode or third party apps even existed. Don’t get me wrong Pro mode is essential for certain cases but a lot of times you do not have time to set those parameters before you take shot. You will miss that important moment so a GREAT Auto mode is exactly what all manufactures are going for. Don’t sell the Auto Mode short.
So, cell phone owners should try their hand at healthcare - not in North America.
the average consumer of iphones is like teenagers or kids nowadays tbh
LOL No. MOST AVERAGE CONSUMERS DONT EVEN UNDERSTAND HOW THE MANUAL MODE WORKS. they end up having bright pictures with a lot of noise, blurry pictures, blown out pictures etc.
And sure, note 9 have pro mode pre-installed in their camera. But if you really need that, there are many third party apps which are great for iPhones for access to the manual mode.
LowLightVideos no they don't
To me it looks like the Iphone XS Max looks better the color of your shirt looks a bit more vibrant the red just punches in that bright color the Note 9 looks a tad bit duller in the video.
Please do a iPhone Xs vs Pixel 2XL camera comparison
Thanks danny for this video I would prefer note 9
I think u r not comparing...
U r only in favour of iPhone

it's honestly not a favour. He said it was all down to you and he liked the colours from Iphone's camera more, which is true. It's up to your preference.
Not an apple fanboy but gonna have to say....Hands down to the iPhone in both audio and video
Having a Note 9 I agree with the slight over exposing. Every picture I take I drag the exposure down just a tad and it looks so much better. Less editing or none involved when i do that.
I have Note9 and it's a fantastic phone and i never EVER will buy a iphone until apple don't change the way how they treat the customers.
But i like the pictures of the iphone a bit more than Note9.
Iphone is nothing without its camera
I have the same opinion as you are, I saw some pictures that favors the Note 9 but over all the iPhone has a much balance result...
When I stopped using my Note8 and began using the iPhone X, the only thing i missed was the camera. I had a decision to make with the Xs Max and the Note9. I went with the Xs Max because the camera seems to have been improved a lot. Nice video.
... how regularly do you update your phone? I'm not knocking you btw your money your choice. I've got both S9 and iphone X use both daily.
DJ GMONEY so u bought a phone for the camer.
the p20 pro has the best camera(s)
Angry Viper no. The better camera helped my decision to stick with the iPhone. I would’ve probably ended up with the Note9 if the iPhone camera sucked.
@@angryviper1 the p20 pro isn't the best overall. Sacrifices video and audio for slightly better photos. Although the zoom is very nice
At 4:13 you can see the scene where most of the android phones fail, including Pixel 2: the dark areas along the tree trunks appear as black spaces of nothing, while on iPhone you can actually see the texture on the trunk. That’s something that really bothered me with Note5, and it seems like they haven’t improved on it since 2015
When it comes to camera comparison your videos are the best hands down
I love your camera comparison so much, Danny.
XS max in daylight and note 9 in low light

I don't think you upgraded the note 9 camera software. It was just released and it promises substantial camera improvements. Fixes- "ironed out HDR issues where some parts of the image were underexposed and also changes to the low-light photography.
You can expect less noisy stills due to the improved SNR (Signal-to-Noise Ratio)
Wow there so much improvement in iphone camera. But i pick note9
Ho do you edit your video? Can I know which software that you use? :)
Note 9 if you are true to colors
Xs max if you like lying to yourself
True colors, samsung started the whole oversaturated colors thing. Just look at their screen
Selfie Cam = iPhone XS Max, Rear Cam = Note 9
Note 9 looks better, more natural colors.
Samsung deliberately over saturates and boosts contrast. Definitely not more natural
Some people just don’t have a clue and want fake over Saturation.. I mean sometimes it looks good but it’s just fake

0:01 just the start of the video already showed which camera is better. The note 9 background sky is completely blown out while the iphone Xs Keeps the exposure at balance, the dynamic range is amazing. The stabilisation is also so much better at the iphone xs. Better audio as well.
Easy win for the iPhone XS.
Yeah DR is incredible.
Note 9 looks better
I'm curious, were the note 9 images pre or post software update? The update that has the September 1 security patches also included some MAJOR camera software upgrades (IMO).
Die hard Note guy, but in all honesty the iPhone has the better cameras. Sadly..
Same here...I'm a note guy but agree the IPhone looked better overall.
Notice Note9 is a year off S10/Note10. Samsungs holding out until next year. Just wait
@@xosuspire3130 Still sad that they don't revolutionize the Note line up with futuristic upgrades. I mean, it's supposed to be the best of the best after all
I beg to differ. Samsung has always had good cameras
Don't get me wrong, the Note has a good camera but the HDR is much much better on the iPhone
As long as you know how to find the Blacks slider in editing when necessary, seems like a pretty clean sweep for the iPhone. I’d rather have the option of retaining shadows (usually wanted anyway), than always lose them entirely. Also, I love me some blue skies, and iPhone nails it every time, while the Note ends up with grey skies in almost every shot for some reason.
Great video. I’m trying to chose between each of these phones. Hard choice all around here. It goes back and forth. Some are better on one, some on the other, and the rest are about the same.
iPhone won overall, to me it's the best camera on a phone currently, let's see what Google comes out
Regardless I tend to just buy a new iPhone every 2 or so iterations later each time and I’m using the iPhone 7+ 128 GB now so I’ll be upgrading soon.

If you want your iPhone XS to shoot more contrasty, activate a filter directly in the camera app! As easy as that.

FUCK YOU
Damn the iPhone nailed the exposure/dynamic range this year, just phenomenal
The whole point of taking a picture is that you want a realistic reproduction of the original scene. None of the phone manufacturers do this. They all over process pictures in one way or another, which makes them look different from the original scene. Why can't all manufacturers give you a toggle in the camera app settings to allow the user to decide whether they want a totally realistic shot or a processed one. After all, we're the ones spending hundreds of pounds or dollars on these devices. We should have more control rather than been told how a picture should look.
Great comparison. iPhone takes some great pictures but I still prefer the Note 9.
watch at 7:38 he has given wrong review. new iphone soften images more than iphone x. when note 9 images r sharper. iphone xs and xs max has soften image issue which has been raised by so many users. this is bias review note real.

Note 9 wins and Iphone Xs Max Takes the Big L
Thank you Danny. I prefer the Max. Wow!
everyone talks about how the pIxel 2 is still the best camera on a smartphone out there. can you do a comparison?
As with ALL camera comparisons, it really does boil down to what we personally prefer. Every time you said you preferred one of the images, I was thinking well actually I prefer the other one!
Note 9 📸 is better than iPhone
compared to supersaf, I prefer your comparison because you showed us night time shots both for photos and videos, and you know very well that under the lowlight condition like that, we can really see some huge differences between both phones, so thank you Danny
by the way, just some suggestions:
1. Can you do a comparison of High Framerate video for the lowlight situation? I know higher framerate = bigger processing and usually drop the quality per frames compared to 30fps, but I think it will be interesting to see who capable of doing high framerate video at lowlight/night
2. For this Video, IPhone XS can shoot 1080p 60fps for front facing selfie video, the 1st on any smartphone, I think you forget to show that
3. Please do more portrait shots at night with a lot of lighting bulbs for the background, and play with the bokeh slider for both phones, so we can see which one can handle night bokeh shot better
4. Smart HDR is turned on by default, and only applied for 30fps video, I think it will be an useful information how is the result without any Smart HDR for photos and videos
5. You're Amazing, thank you for your works
Galaxy Note 9 ^
Danny can you do a camera comparison with the pixel 2 xl vs iPhone xs. It seems to me that the iPhone has over taken Samsung in camera quality after being garbage for 3 years.
The verge said the pixel 2 xl was still better than the iphone, would be an interesting comparison especially seeing as we expect the pixel 3xl to be even better
Edge detection is horrible on the X Max. Front camera has this facial smoothening & Animoji’s tracking is worse now smh
Edge detection is an issue which I mentioned for sure. I hope they fix that and the smoothening but the Note 9 already did both so Apple copied? Haha

In low light most of the cases Note 9 did better. Even I liked more the Coca Cola image on Note 9.
But iphone Xs max's smart HDR is super impressive. In daylight it is better than Note 9
I can see why. The iPhones image was more accurate though that’s why I pointed it out. Samsung doesn’t handle reds well in low light. Just a characteristic
