Hi Everyone! Thanks so much for watching! I hope you found these tips for making your rooms feel more spacious helpful. Let me know what you think and what questions you have. Have a beautiful day! ❤Liz
I applied all of these ideas recently creamy white walls, doors, trim and ceiling; matched with my solid bench seat sofa in the process of installing all engineered flooring throughout exception entry-way and bathroom. I am in a 700 square ft.condo so once flooring is laid and furniture put back I will send you a pick. With your ideas for making room look larger I feel I’m on the right track; you confirmed this. Thanks!😊😊
I have just moved into a small house and have had to get rid of a lot of furniture. However, I have purchased rather a large corner sofa for my small lounge. (You would think that smaller, lighter furniture would look better) It works because I have limited the number of furniture items in my small lounge to only the sofa, one mid century armchair, a glass top coffee table and a long, low side board for the TV and storage. The room feels really cosy - like an English “snug” - especially at night, which is mainly when we use it.
Our home is 846 sq ft, for our family of 4 which includes 2 teenagers. We always want to invite people over, but no dining room, no closets, and no extra bedroom. We are planning to remove a partial wall and open the kitchen to the living room..there by giving space for a dining room table in the midst of the two. So excited.😊 Your ideas will be helpful as we figure this all out and get it done. 👍
Hi John! I'm so glad the ideas will be helpful as you embark on your renovation. It sounds like a great plan. Please let me know how it turns out. ~Liz
Great video - such practical tips that I hadn't thought of before. I love interior design, and so many people have little spaces (including me). Thank you for helping this decor stuff in little homes make more sense!
Hi Cara! It's my pleasure! I'm so glad you found it helpful. I'm planning more videos to help with small spaces so let me know if there are any specific challenges you're dealing with and I'll address them. ~Liz
I have a 6 foot sofa in black, (not my choice) but it was a gift. I have 2 dark gray recliners, a TV credenza in med brown. The walls are 2 toned, darker reddish brown, and a tan. What colors would you suggest? We can't afford new furniture.
Hi Kareen! Thanks so much for watching! I think painting the walls and any trim, like a chair rail, in one neutral color like a warm gray (check out Sherwin Williams Modern Gray), could work well with your upholstered and wood pieces. Also, think about leaning into the black a little bit with artwork or accessories around the room to take the focus off the sofa and draw the gaze around the room. I hope that helps a bit! ~Liz
Loved this- for my nyc apt. Thank you and please let me know if you want to feature my condo living room to find a solution to break up the dining / couch areas inside a 21foot room! :) I need the help!
Hi Elizabeth! I'm so glad you found the video helpful! Send me an email with some more details and a video of the space and I'll see what I can come up with. I'm planning several videos on spaces, including living rooms and dining rooms and what to do with large open spaces like yours. Look for those within the next month. ~Liz
I accidentally came across this video. Anyhow, i used most of these tips to re do our home, except the curtain part. I wish I could upload the pics to show you!
Love my lifetime collection of framed art in a smaller and different sizes. Hate large impersonal pieces of ‘art’. Help me know how to hang what I love.
Hi Karen! Thanks for your comment. Your collection sounds wonderful. If you want to hang art in a small space the tip on using larger mats can make them look more cohesive but there are lots of different ways to approach this. I'll do a video on hanging wall art including gallery walls in the near future. ~Liz
I have a huge house but a relatively small living room. I do understand the clutter issue but I'm an English Country/Ralph lauren style. This makes it really difficult.
Hi Susan! I've seen some English Country and Ralph Lauren style interiors that, while not minimal by any means, still look uncluttered and very cozy. I think the thing that made it work was a tight, neutral color palette with pops of a more saturated neutralized accent color and definitely good layered lighting. ~Liz
Question? I have cooler toned grey flooring with white walls and a lot of natural lighting. I want to achieve a more neutral tone palette with furniture and decor, but am worried the cool toned floor would throw it off. Is this achievable?
Hi Jasmine! Yes, it is! You can mix warm and cool tones together. It makes for a more balanced space. When you say "cooler" I'm thinking that there's a tiny bit of warmth in the floors? If so, you can build your palette from any of those warm tones. And bring in just a tiny hint of the cool to tie it in and keep it balanced. I hope that helps at least a little. ~Liz
@@BalanceRhythm thank you for getting back to me, this really does help. If you ever need more ideas on video content I think topics on mixing wood tones and maybe mixing warm and cool toned colors would make for great content. Take care🤍

Thank you Liz, that was actually along the lines I was thinking but wasn't sure about the gray walls. I will see what I can do!
@@kareenchristen8558 My pleasure A warm gray or taupe will help bridge that gap between warm and cool.

I have in fact the opposite problem: a long, relatively narrow, living room... so, a video about making a room look smaller would be most welcome. :-)
Thanks for the suggestion! I'm working on a video on living spaces which will be up in two weeks and I'll address that issue. ~Liz

Can I use navy blue in accents and art with neutral colors?
Hi Rebecca! Yes, navy is a great dark accent. You could use it instead of black. I think it looks especially good with the warm neutrals. ~Liz

Also, can I mix different shades of wood, bookcase, sideboard etc?
@@rebeccabannister5304 Yes, you can mix wood tones. Pick one to make most dominant and use one or two others more as accents.
This time everythibg expensive i think the lightning for showing is not good idea .
Hi Dior! Lighting doesn't have to be expensive. There are many affordable options at IKEA, Target, Amazon and other retailers.
You're definitely not a maximalist
You might right but I don’t agree with your ideas
Hi there! Interior design is an art as well as a science. As an art it is open to personal expression. So do what works best for you. Cheers! ~Liz
