Ex Valvoline lube Tech and current dealer tech here. Valvoline recommended 3k, dealer recommends 10k. Valvoline would notoriously hound on us for bumping the sticker milage up to dealer spec. They told us not to tell the customer (sorry the "guest") about different vehicles' recommended milage, they told us not to tell them vehicles can go further on Full Synthetic Oil (it is what allows for newer GM' and Toyota's specifically to go longer on oil changes), but would still have us tell people driving these vehicles they had to use our Full Synthetics.
@@onescaryapothiconboi7475 yes you are correct, the newer vehicles can easily go for longer mileage. I'll tell you though, more frequent oil changes are always better on the engine. Even though the manufacturers say you can go longer and be safe, which is true, it's always better to change more frequent.
You can do 7,500 and over if you’re not planning to keep your car over 100k. If you plan on keeping as long as possible, change it much much sooner. 5k max, even with good oil. Oil is cheap, new engines and cars are not.
False. Vehicles with full synthetic these days have tight oil specs and small oil channels... tight engine specs overall for highest EPA and emissions standards. 5,000 full synthetic on non turbos, 3,000 on twin or single turbo & 3,000 on supercharged. Synthetic blend on non turbo is 3,000 and 2,000 on twin/single turbo & supercharged. Finally conventional is 3,000 non turbo and 2,000 on single turbo/supercharged and 1,500 on twin turbo.
Oil changes are the most important preventative maintenance...if you really think you can go 7500 or even 10k between oil changes, Your knowledge of Cars and how they work are minimal. (Just like the guy in the video). But to each his own. Dont cry when your engine craps out on you.
I buy the 10k filters and use full synthetic. I still change my oil every 3-5k. Oil filters aren’t perfect, and driving practices vary. Those are all factors on how long your oil lasts
@@clarkkent1521u must be sped or some shit, cuz if youve gotten your oil changed at valvoline and ur engine didnt lock up after 30 mins of driving, then theres engine oil, and if ur smart enough to pull ur dipstick, them u can see if the oil is new or not, fucktard
Uhhhhh 3k is just the general recommendation for all cars, at Valvoline it’s the mileage we can guarantee the oil to be good in for every car, it’s up to you to listen to it or not
As someone that specializes in engine lubricants and filtration all that 10k+ oil change interval talk is a bunch of nonsense I’ll tell yall the same thing we tell our customers believe the label if you want but saving those couple dollars by pushing an oil change back is gonna cost you more in the long run when it end up in our shop for major servicing🤷🏼♂️ oil changes are cheaper than engine swaps
True but make sure you’re regularly checking your oil … 7500 miles or not if the motor burns oil you’ll be running it low on oil and then untold damages may occur
True about modern oil lasting longer, but shops don't make all that much on oil changes. Doing it yourself is close in cost with most shops, they're mostly to see if anything is up with the car to recommend repairs to the customer.
6k or every 5-6 months. Honda recommends every 10k. Most of those engines now have sludge and get a engine every 150k. Source? When applying for a Honda tech about 5 years ago the techs told me I’ll be doing a lot of engines bc of this.
Depends on how you drive, if your in the city redlining it light to light better stick to what they recommend buddy. If your cruising on the freeway like a granny most of the time yeah 7000 is the limit
Most dealers and places are starting to do 10k mile interval recommendations. As an ex lube tech I’ll tell you, going over 5k regularly on oil changes does make a difference. I do mine every 5k and have no troubles
3000 miles or 6 months doesn't matter the vehicle. oil changes are cheaper than a new engine. unless you have a Hyundai or Kia then you're just screwed
No one says this is when you should get the next oil change, many shops run that as the bare minimum as when to remind the customer, also all shops will say if you ask “this our standard set with all the manufacturers, but we recommend you always fallow what your manufacturer recommends”
-been a lube technician for a year- Conventional oils are build to last 3,000 Synthetic blends~ 3-5,000 depending on additives (high mileage synthetic blends last longer) And full synthetics last 5k-10,000 miles with high mileage oil and Mobile1 being the high end of the spectrum The real ripoff is people buying “manufacturer made” oil as its just mobile1 rebranded and marked up. The only reason why oil change shops print a sticker for 3k is because it’s a good idea to get the oil at least inspected. 3k city mileage is way different than 3k highway mileage in terms of stress on your vehicle
I’ve seen what happens to the canister filters if you go 7500 miles. Lol. If you think it’s a scam change your own damned oil. Yeah, you can go 7500-10,000 miles if you are constantly driving in ideal driving conditions meaning absolutely no stop and go, and all highway miles. Otherwise you’re driving most likely in extreme driving conditions year round, requiring the oil to be changed if it very dirty at 3,000 miles or 5,000. Also has a lot to do with your driving habits. So I promise it’s not a scam.
Well…. If the mechanic actually says to “get your oil change in 3k miles”, then yes, it’s a scam. But typically those are just REMINDERS to keep in your head.
Yeah, hi, dealership advisor here. We make MAYBE $10 off of you after everything is said and done… if anything it’s more of a pain in the ass to do your oil change and not worth the hassle to us. Where we make our money is if shit needs replacing or if somethings needs to be repaired.
Used to work for Valvoline, we go by manufacturer specs, so in reality the dealers are scamming you, but I mean Valvoline is hella expensive so yeah they are too lmao
No….The stickers are your “Topoff stickers” the mileage in the sticker is when you should come in for a topoff then the next sticker is for ur actual oil change
No. The sticker is for an oil change. If it's the proper time between oil changes your oil will still be full and there is nothing to top off. If your oil isnt full after 3000 miles your car is either burning oil or leaking
3000 is the standard for conventional oil changes because there are no wear additives in it and it degrades much quicker under high temperature. Its 3000 or 3 months which ever comes first. But under an honest technicians rule book its always performed if its approved by the customer. The customer is not obligated by no circumstance to get it done. Its not a scam its an upsell. Take it for what it is!
Ha ha 3k is a cheap price to pay for insurance . 7.5 k by the time the qear and tear adds up you out of warranty. Even if you dont drive 3 k after 6 mths change the oil.
@@PhotoLabMP well those are high quality cars with high quality engines. There was one guy we had come in who did 10,000 mi oil changes on a Toyota Camry thinking since it's a Toyota it won't hurt it. He ended up locking his engine doing that after a whole year!

What ?!! No don’t give this advice take this down you’re misleading . 7500k miles is good IF you got a newer car and IF you or the previous owner of the car changed it every 7k miles . However that’s the absolute limit you should change it every 3k miles especially if you can spare the $.
